I noticed pipe flow mostly works best moving horizontally left to right, but not in all cases. Water and waste water work really nice that way feeding the LOX plant and the Waste ejector / furnace. You only need 2 pipe sections between modules and can line up multiple tanks that way. Also, I run a pipe from the mining laser to a storage unit adjacent to it so the workers do not have to run outside to bring it in materials. A few hints. Move picking up dropped items to nearly the top of you task list so scarce resources are not left sitting there. Right below Demolish works best for me. Multiple airlocks for crew are a good thing. I put them near things that need access. As close as possible for the Waste Water tank for certain for one of them. Do not be afraid to grow bigger early to have space to move interior things around for efficiency. Metal and minerals are pretty cheap and plentiful and a truss plus module is only 4 metal and 1 mineral to build. I also put a truss outside of a module as well for easy building later. The only downside to growing quickly without a good plan is that once built, a module cannot be removed.
One thing I now realize might not be apparent to you: pipes carry solid materials and can sort items. They are basically intelligent conveyors. You don't just use them for liquids. When you titled this "automation", I assumed you meant the basic automation, where you start say, feeding all your furnaces with pipes from storage, and your waste ejectors with pipes from your external tanks. Not trying to bypass automated emptying of mining lasers to jump right to drone mining. Also, you can run multiple mining lasers to make mining much faster. They are very cheap, and you get a 100% refund for disassembling them.
Just started watching the video, been looking for a video that explains how the pipes work because mine just send random resources to random places and dumps them on the floor. So looking forwards to you teaching us how to use pipes for automation in this video :D
I love developers with a sense of humor... I have a refurbed office pc... and I am always checking out new games but have to be VERY CAREFUL as to what games I am trying out so my system doesn't have a heart attack and die on me... THOUGH SHE SEEMS TO BE ABLE TO HANDLE A LOT even though she has onboard "just about everything" but ram... When I checked out this games Minimum on the System Requirements... I HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO GIGGLE AND DOWNLOAD IT IMMEDIATELY... The Processor got me the most. Steam Minimum Requirements: OS: Windows 10 Processor: Potato Memory: 2 GB RAM Graphics: Yes Storage: 200 MB available space Sound Card: Probably needed... Additional Notes: Ran on some old laptop
With all the machines and workers constantly busy, in the OP-144 factory, No One can hear you. Thank you, Comrade-Dictator Potato, for giving us jobs that allow us to work 22 hours per day, for the benefit of your republic. I'll get back to work now. Please bring back the Workers & Resources series, Comrade. Thank you. 10-year subscriber.

I spent two/3 days binging this game and beat it twice , thanks for showing off this rough gem.

One thing, I do change job orders for a quick second when I have stuff lying around, as picking up dropped items is the last on their list.
Oh sweet I was hoping there'd be another video on this one.
Room layout also seems to be a thing to help with piping and workload.

There is a fuel pump in the station tab, it (I think) makes selling fuel automatic.
So happy this is becoming a series 😊
0:46 You have all the space because you're in space
This looks like fun... tedious, but still fun. :)
I think the piping is kind of throwing me off so I could pipe resources directly from the Mining lasers.
