I played this alone, not even knowing english, so watching this I really have no clue about why the hell was I playing an educational game in a language I didn't even manage to speak, but man, that atmosphere... The game at 12:48 is the most nostalgic thing to me ever. I remember playing it over and over and over again when I was like 5. I miss being so entertained by this game. It made me love dinosaurs. What I could do to go back.
If I remember right the Megalosaurus would move every so often when you clicked on it. Scared the hell out of me as a kid. But this was one of my favorite games when I was young along with Eyewitness VR Bird, Aviator, Rollercoaster Tycoon, and Gizmos & Gadgets. Ah, the Arena! That’s what it was. That T-Rex was freaky! Still is to this day even though the graphics haven’t aged well.
Also why did I never realise how creepy this game kinda is as a kid? I think as adults we are much more full of anxieties rather than childlike curiosity
I have fond memories of going to the local public library with my parents when I was really young, there would always be this really big Eyewitness dinosaur encyclopedia that also included a copy of this game. It was always such a treat to check out that book because I'd be able to play this gem of a game. I'm glad to see other people hold as many good memories of this game as I do.

Did this game ever have an orange disc? I played a dinosaur exploration game that took place in a museum but the disk was orange and had a triceratops on it. Iirc the picture of the triceratops was ‘real’ and the effect on it made it orange/blend into the background.
Between this, Myst, and Microsoft Bob, I think I understand how I got my soft spot for the whole "virtual location" interface. Yes, from a usability standpoint, it's awful, but there's so much charm, man.

Oh, if it is what I think it is, it was a special feature that let you change from one Eyewitness Virtual Reality "museum" to another, by going to the elevator (usually in the small point in the map's pupil), selecting the "museum" you wanted to go to and then changing the CD-ROM.
I have a plush Tyrannosaurus that looks so much like the one in this game you'd think it was meant to go with it. I loved this game so much as a kid. I am hoping I might be able to get the new version on eBay that is compatible with Windows 7.

This brings back memories of wen I yust to play this game a lot back den I had a old Microsoft computer in my room back in 2007 2008 and 2009 and I wood play this game for hours and I remember wen I first played this game wen I clicked on the Deinonychus I ran out of my room screaming wen the dinosaur scream and I ran into my uncle and I told him what happened and we went tow show him and the background sounds and music was scary the hell out of me and years later forgot about this game until I saw this video and all the memories cam back to me and I Finally after all these years I saw all of the eyewitness videos of this year wen I was in school in science class in January 2018 and my science teacher put on a you tube video of the eyewitness episode of mammals and wen I saw the intro I was like o my god I totally forgot about that and wen I went home that day I went on you tube and looked up eyewitness and I found the channel and was watching all of the eyewitness episode that night of the ones I have seen on VHS tapes and ones that I haven't seen and it was one of the best moments in my life.
Any chance of this game being upgraded to run on newer operating systems (e.g., Windows 10)? This was such a fun and educational game that I bought dozens of copies to give as gifts, but it won't run on anything higher than Windows 3.

Excavating bones was my favorite and I still remember it today though it was like 25 years ago. And then you see this dinosaur walking the holes. Its looks so basic right now, but back then it was incredible. Remember that feeling when you discard something your kids might like - it's all in the perception sometimes. Try using virtual machine software to run this. You have to install any old Windows (iso) on the VM software. I prefer VMWare.
