That's right, ground-effect is really there with flying wings. Mine were forward swept (like the Alula) and made of fishing rods at the leading edge and it was strained like a bow and the trailing edge was just string (and air-foil ribs were also made). Then I covered it with plastic shopping bags and sticky-tape. I made one with cloth covering (but it didn't go quite as good) but it was so much more practical.
Hello Mike, wing loading is about 5oz per sq ft. I have been flying it with about 9oz of ballast recently as this has allowed me to get the cg back further and improve the soaring performance. I'm replying from my other youtube channel by the way.
Hi there Justwantahover....I'm replying from my other RUclips channel, the benefit you were getting was that of the wing in 'ground effect'. Flying wings are far better at exploiting the cushion of air low down when on landing approach. They also tend to climb better than a conventional layout in thermals. Thanks for watching and happy landings to you!
Great design. Unfortunately, the build article on RC Groups you referred to a year ago is no longer there. Is there any chance of refreshing it, or any way of us obtaining it another way, please?
They seem to go so much better than a normal glider. Better glide ratio. I made some (free-flight) ones and they would hardly lose height and cruise a whole field at 1 meter off the ground. It's not only less drag, flying wings tend to "flip up" quicker, cos of no tail-plane and it keeps the nose up enough for a long glide (even free-flight ones do).
Thanks Anthony! It is quite a versatile model, I would quite like to build a heavier one for stronger conditions. (I'm replying from my other youtube channel btw)
Thanks Scott, I was lucky to have very smooth air for the maiden. We have some great little slopes here, we have to travel a bit further for more epic lift though! (replying from my other youtube ac)
Hi there mountaindewdude, I'm replying from my other youtube username. If you go to the Nurflugel section on RC Groups, I did a build thread which details all you need. The thread name was 3m slope and thermal wing, my RC Groups username is miniphase. Happy Flying!
Hi SoloSailor.... Thank you!... No magical maths required. Simple online spread sheets will give you the amount of twist and cg required! (I'm replying from my other youtube channel btw)
Hi Tom....thanks for the comments! I designed and built the wing from scratch. If you search my user name on RC Groups (miniphase) and go to my profile / blog page, you'll find a link to the build thread. Regards Paul (replying from my other youtube ac)
Hi Andrew, its scratch built so very little material cost, but probably around 40hrs build time once you're up to speed on the construction techniques (replying from my other channel btw).
Hi Mike It's my own design built from pink foam with obechi skins and a carbon spar. Do a search on RC Groups for 'miniphase' (my username there), I did a build thread in the 'Nurflugel' section. Happy Flying!
+rc-nut 1 Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. Yes, I keep meaning to deal with the wind noise....it's on my 'to do' list. Tried some fluffy material in the past which helped a little, also cellotape...but that just made everything muffled!

@reverendkrv thanks Kirk, I'm very happy with her so far she climed beautifully in the spring thermals today...haven't tried a roll yet though!

Just Wonderful ! An Aircraft and a Flight to be Proud of !!

Hello. Superb glider. He did not want to land. Good flight.
+OLEG69M Thank you for the compliments!
That is so cool! Nice flying and a real smooth landing.

What airfoil did you use? Looks really good.
looks solid in the air Paul, and the landing was masterful (when you finally got her down xD)
Sweet, Beautiful craft sir! Luv the effortless flight. You have great location there eh? Thanks for sharing, I am encouraged to give it a go

Very nice! I have a feeling if you didn't have flaps it might still be up there gliding around. Incredible build!
All I can think when I see that is hard to see put FPV on it
congratulations!! very nice wing !
Thanks Phil, she's getting a bit beat up now so may build another with a few 'tweaks'
Bloody Brilliant Mate!
Thank you Ron! I've recently built a bigger one....details here on my other channel- ruclips.net/video/JYoMn6F_UZU/видео.html

What a beautiful wing, do you have the plans? Greetings from Colombia.
Mate, if you designed with Maths, I'm awestruck !!
Care to share your customized Wing calculations ??

That is a beautiful wing! The flight looks very smooth and stable. What is the name of the wing, are there blueprints available?
Best regards,
Tom

Sir, could you help me with the airfoil type? I found your wing drawing already
Hi, I used the MH45 on this wing though the HS522 may be a better choice.
I would love to have one so how much does it cost?

nice aircraft

Where can we buy a wing glider kit or plans of???

nice video but you should put some foam over your microphone help with wind noise.

grimheathen Thanks, I shall give it a go!
do you have the plans to build?
