I think FFII is way too long and unbalanced for a first Insane Demon. The second half gets much harder, the last jump at 99% can be such a chokepoint, and the whole level is three and a half minutes long. Personally, I did Puzzle Trials as my first Insane Demon. The part after the minesweeper section is quite learny but it gets really consistent. The hardest part is probably the triple mode part as the timings have to be much more precise than you think, then the UFO right after that is a bit tricky, but other than that, the rest of the level gets easier. There's just a lot of things to remember.
I would def recommend ISpyWithMyLittleEye as I was going through demons to beat as my first last night, I played ISpy and beat it on the spot. Also got 75% on Phjork that night too lmao

People beat The Nightmare because it's, oh I don't know, EASY for a demon. Some people might even beat it for Demon-Grinding, if Phjork was your First Easy Demon, that's great! But fun isn't everything in a GD level and The Nightmare is easier anyways...
When I first played The Nightmare, I found it entertaining and beat it with excitement. I'm sorry, I don't want to try it thinking it would be fun and be mad.

For insane demons, id recommend windy landscape or crazy ii as the popular ones and gregory or tendo, which are less known but are very easy and really good. And if you have already beaten an insane demon, 1929 is a really good level to increase skill.
Phjork is fun but I struggle with UFO parts with reverse gravity and then switching back even tho there are pulsing circles where I need to tap, my first hard demon was dragon temple and medium demon was mountain king

My first easy demon is ISpyWithMyLittleEye. Didn't really take long to beat it. It might be unsightreadable at first, but trust me you will get used to the flashes.

Well for me I have to disagree with you. I don't think Steampunk should your 1st hard demon because of the hard timings unless your a tryhard. But I would say that it can be your 3rd or 4th hard demon. In my opinion I believe your 1st hard demon should be CraZy, Nine Circles, or Sedulous (if you have a good fps performance).

In my opinion, the best medium to beat first is PlundeR. Just know that before “PlundeR” there is a space. You should try it if you haven’t.
