I would really encourage you Grace to go and see Wicked on Broadway so you can get the full effect of Wicked the musical before you see the film. You will not be disappointed!!
It’s funny to see the reaction of someone who has no clue what’s going on because I know all the answers and I can’t wait for the world to finally see this story. 🤭🤭
As a black American, I don’t care about what she said. We all have said stupid stuff. However, we need the representation. The first time I heard about these comments was from Grace. Nobody in the community is talking about it. Non of the black community blogs are mentioning it. We are a lot more forgiving. If we can be forgiving for what other races of people have done then we can forgive our own.
This! My friend mentioned the situation to me and I had to remind him that were called worst by a fellow black person during school. Anyways,I am excited and hope, Cynthia and Ariana gets nominated for all the awards!
In Mexico the actress that played the Elphaba and Glinda will be the ones singing in Spanish for the LATAM version and one of them have a huge fan base. For Mexico there good and of course there are a lot of fans for Ariana grande
Same here in Brazil. Both actresses are doing the dub and the singing in portuguese. Everyone is excited because the Portuguese versions of the songs will be released officially for the first time.
The thing about Wicked is it isn't really meant to mesh with the Wizard of Oz film. You'll see what I mean in the second part especially but it's less a prequel and more "that was all propaganda and here's the *real* truth". The basic stuff is there of course, just slightly distorted.
Grace. As someone who has see the musical multiple times. I THOROUGHLY enjoy hearing you try to guess some of these plot points and hear your theories. 😂. Thanks for the coverage.
Great live! Someone commented that the Ariana Grande fans might be more powerful than the musical fans. I tend to agree. My fiancé wants to see this because of Grande and that got me more excited to see it (even though I grew up with Wicked as a musical fan).
20:00 Galinda isn't setting her up. This scene isn't Elphaba getting ready for the dance. Elphaba is getting ready to defy the Wizard ( and gravity ) and Galinda snaps her cloak on her. It's probably cold up there.
If anyone here is a reader, I highly recommend reading the book before watching this movie. It's just a great book and perhaps some details from it will be in this movie
Watch some of her SNL sketches. Ariana Grande started on Broadway as a kid eventually landing a starring role in Nickelodeon shows as a teenager. She’s studied classic actresses. I’m sure she’s gonna nail this role, however as a fan I’m not sure if she wants to pursue more roles after this. I’d really want her to.
Speaking of the movie being two parts I’ll never forget watching IT chapter 1 in a packed theater. Where when the movie ended and said Part 1 People were gasping and saying “wait, there’s more?!” Apparently many didn’t know the story continued when the kids grew up🤣🤣🤣
Grace is literally the only that keeps bringing up the Cynthia controversy. I’ve been following her for a long time and i’ve never heard anyone else about it. That doesn’t mean she should stop bringing it up, but it puts it in perspective of how many people know about it.
I'm so thankful that you're giving Wicked the coverage it deserves even though you are not familiar with it. All of the musical theater fans are so thankful!
That's exactly what I'm getting. I thought that right away with the first trailer we got. I know they built many practical sets for this movie, but it's so hard to tell with the way every shot is awash with CGI and filters. 🤷
OMG YES PLEEEASE WEAR YOUR WITCHES HAT FOR THE AGATHA COVERAGE. I don't care if people will call it silly, I'm so excited for that show and I'm so pissed with how intentionally toxic people are already being about it, and something like that would really brighten my mood week-to-week when dealing with haters
I’ve read the book and seen the play a few times. Grace I can’t wait for you to see this because I’m yelling at my screen wanting to answer your questions!!! I’m so excited for this movie! Going opening night.
Devastated that you haven’t made the trip to 50th Street over the last 20 years. It’s a musical spectacular for the ages, Grace! I hope you go see it in person soon! 💚🩷
One of my first times going to a broadway show was Wicked and I was so shocked at the way it connects to the wizard of Oz… it’s very much its own thing but the connections were so fascinating to me, very clever choices… its gonna be cool seeing people find out for the first time. I won’t spoil anything but let’s just say you’ll have all your questions answered Grace 👀
Every question Grace has about the movie is literally a huge plot point in the show that makes absolute sense when you watch it. Grace's concerns about this movie not connecting with audiences are similar to the ones she had about the Mario movie.
Im sure the musical has played in other countries but I dont know if it will mean people will show up for the movie. Also, will really need to rely on the femaile audiance like Barbie.. Unlike say Harry potter that appeals to all , Not a lot of guys are gonig to see this movie.
I think Grace is speaking out of ignorance because she hasn't seen the musical. I'm prob a more conservative leaning fan of BTT, I've seen the musical 3x, and we are all going. Awesome casting overall (minus Grande-whose music I like, just bad Glenda). Very much looking forward to it. This is a very universal story with great music imo.
dont go see the musical! i am so jealous that you will experience it on big screen for the first time. according to the trailers they are almost doing it word by word so it should at least be as good as the broadway musical😂
I have a question for fans of the musical: Does it look like there are scenes from the end of the story in this trailer? As in, this is a two part movie but the scenes where she’s flying on the broom and in full wicked witch costume, seems like where the Wicked story would end. Are they putting part one and two in these trailers to make it seem like a full experience?
So, I assumed that the movies would be similar to how the intermission is set within the play. The first half of the play covers how Elphaba becomes the Wicked Witch. It ends with the famous Defying Gravity, then intermission. We pick up a while later and the story begins to get closer and closer to the Wizard of Oz story. The trailer seems to confirm that they will end at Act 1 of the play, as the scenes are from the first act, including flying on a broom. The one shot that's out of place is a quick shot of Dorothy, The Scarecrow, the Tin Man, and The Lion
Looks pretty darn good. I watched the musical on PBS a few years ago and it was very good. Since the musical is like 3 hours long, will the movie be broken up into an hour and 29 mins each or something? Short.
Grace I say this wt love but you’re a new-yorker and you haven’t seen wicked 🧐it’s a dis-grace🤣 💋❤️💋❤️it really is a story about the power of propaganda!
When Glinda give her the hat, it is a setup to be mean. The scene where she give her the cape is absolutely later on in the movie, once they’re friends and she’s saying goodbye as Elphaba is fleeing (either from the second movie, or just before Defying Gravity) the school/Oz. That’s my theory.
This is so interesting to watch as a big fan of the show. On the one hand you are definitely picking up on a lot of the things it's putting down. On the other, I had so many "I know something you don't know" moments haha. I'm really starting to get a sense of this movie now. And I will DEFINITELY be there. But I am also worried about it being split in two, and that it is coming too late to do well at the box office.
I adore Wicked, and can't wait for this movie. However, these trailers have been so lacklustre and just look like something is off. I can't quite put my finger on it, but it's almost like the way this trailer in particular has been put together feels lazy. I'm still going to see it obviously and want it to do as good as it possibly can.
I would suggest you watch the source material...its on youtube. The movie will clearly mix in wlemwnts from the film but some of your questions will be answered if you just watch the show,
its not technically a prequel of wizard of Oz but a re-visionist project. The musical made it more famous but it is based from the first of the wicked series books written by GM first published in 1995
You should treat yourself and go see Wicked on stage. You are in NYC so why not! I think you will not only appreciate all this more but you will discover how ingenious the story telling is to take what you know and then show another side. Gregory Maguire's book is also spectacular and so smart.
This musical does a fantastic job at filling in the gaps, so all of your questions do have answers. Just keep in mind, at its core (and the book it’s based on) it’s a story about political corruption… so things you think you know from the ‘39 film aren’t what they seem. So go into it open minded… it’s more accurate to the original books from the 1900’s, particularly the Wizard
Anyone saying there's too much CGI has not done their research. I've not seen a movie that went out of its way to build huge practice sets in a long time.
Grace, don’t be mean on Ariana Grande, first you said Cynthia Erivo would have a chance because it’s “very light this year” for best actress, and immediately afterwards you said Ariana didn’t stand a chance because it is “pretty competitive.” 😢
It does have original songs they’re are new songs being added cause this version has more of the story from the book than what’s in the staged musical.
I am going to see it because of the book. I really love the book and I am enjoying the other parts. I'm on the 3rd book now.. the Lion. Each book I read at least ten times. I hope it includes some of the books. Especially the original.
It's been sooo long since Ariana Grande had an actual acting role, that I feel like I need to see Wicked just for her comeback. Because I think Ariana's a strong actress when she's serious. I would've liked Mila Kunis back as the wicked witch though cause she's so charming. :O
This reminds me of the school of good and evil on Netflix. It was okay but I’m not super excited …Arianna is throwing me off plus I feel like that exact movie. I’ll probably still see it bc I absolutely love the wizard of oz.
I cant remember 100% but i believe that in the book, the witch was controlling the flying monkeys with a hat, then when the witch dies, Dorothy frees both the flying monkeys and the Winkies. That might occur here.
Why does she have so much contempt for this film? She pretends like it's not a major tent pole or relevant. Look at all the merch. She had no trouble reviewing the Moana 2 trailer. She raved about Wish. It's baffling. This movie is a big deal. It's one of the longest marketing campaigns I've ever seen for a film.
This movie coming out a week before Moana 2 will interesting. Will it be able to compete or it will have 1 week befre it looses a lot of its audiance to Moana?
I think Wicked will surprise. I actually don’t think they’ll hurt each other much. So much of the Moana production seems like it’ll turn out only ok. But we see
I think the trailer should have emphasized the start of the relationships. Throw in some musical moments. The direction of the relationships is part of the journey.
Wicked is based on an awesome book by Gregory Maguire. It’s such a shame that is leftout. The book is much better then the show and if the movie flush out the stry more like in the books it will be amazing. I was so dissapointed when I saw wicked after being a fan of the books.
IMO this could easily fail: Cynthia looks and acts way too much like a theatre character and doesn’t seem like a person, Ariana isn’t a good enough actress to shoulder everything, straight guys will be put off by the super sugar coated cgi visuals, and overall outside the US Oz isn’t a very reliable nor beloved franchise, for example in Europe or Asia. So I’m not interested in the film, but in how it goes with a general audience. At least if the core musical fan audience bubble likes it, it wasn’t for nothing 🤗
Something feels off about this movie. I think it doesn't look that good. Also I think it's messed up they are hiding the fact that it's a part 1 people are goin to be mad who aren't aware.
I kept laughing through this whole video because anyone who has read the book or seen the play, can totally tell that Grace hasn’t and in turn has no clue what’s going on 🥴🤷🏻♂️🤣 I think this movie will absolutely make a billion dollars. There will be a lot of repeat viewings from people like me 💚🩷✨⭐️✨🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
I think part 1 is Pg, but Part 2 has to be PG-13. SPOILER but with the time jump/ characters being full on adults making adult choices…I think it’ll be the more action based part.
I would really encourage you Grace to go and see Wicked on Broadway so you can get the full effect of Wicked the musical before you see the film. You will not be disappointed!!

I saw it like a month ago and I loved it!

We might in the second movie. I wouldn't be surprised because this is a movie where they can do more. That they cast her in it.

I think part 1 is Pg, but Part 2 has to be PG-13. SPOILER but with the time jump/ characters being full on adults making adult choices…I think it’ll be the more action based part.
A cliffhanger? I hate that
If they do it at the point in the story where I think they will, it will be good imo.
