- The Tenth Muse, Sappho, wrote over 10,000 lines of poetry, most of which are lost. Most of them are lost, and almost all are just fragments.
Odysseas Elytis, one of the two most celebrated poets of modern Greece and one of the only two Greek recipients of a Nobel Prize, formed a "compound" poem with the shortest of these fragments.
Written between the late 7th and the early 6th century BCE, in this poem, Sappho signs for the spring's messenger, the sweet-voiced nightingale. This is its opening verse, also: Ἦρος ἄγγελος ἰμερόφωνος ἀήδων.
In this video, Lina Palera performs on a LUTHIEROS Lyre of Olympus, masterfully handcrafted in Greece by the LUTHIEROS family. She joins forces in the vocals with Gloria Endres de Oliveira to sing an English translation of the poem together.

🇬🇧 🎶 Lyrics in English
Nightingale in my garden,
Messenger sweet of springtide
Aphrodite’s golden handmaiden
And the full globed moon was rising, and there,
sometimes, stood the Cretan women, tender footed,
dancing in measure round the fair altar,
crushing the fine bloom of the grass.
Soothsayer of spring, voluptuous voiced nightingale
Aphrodite’s golden handmaiden
the full moon was rising high
and on the mountain the place of retreats
as in other times of Crete the girls
they dragged the dance around the beautiful altar
and with rhythm their lithe legs
knocking they stepped on the tender grasses
little flowers.

A beautiful reminder that studying modern descendants of ancient languages provides not only its own intrinsic joy, and future closer to connection to world philosophies, psychologies, and histories; but also poetry and music!
Half an hour before the premiere, the tube amplifier warmed up...Such simple words and a sweet melody... I listened as if fascinated...Probably, only poets, musicians and singers living now, who were very inspired and in love with their work and theme, were able to bring this almost forever lost heritage back to life... Thank you very much!!!
Grazie 🙏 🙏

I look forward to seeing and hearing this collaboration of yours by masters of ancient musical instruments + Lina Palera and an extraordinary magical nightingale, named Gloria de Oliveira, your collaboration with whom brings amazing results! ✨🙏🐦
Thanks for tuning in, Дмитрий!
wow this was so beautiful i enjoyed it a lot!! the ancient lyre is such a pure and peaceful sounding musical instrument, i loved how at 2:44 Lina changed her voice but i wish and oh i wish her voice was a bit louder!
also i think the song ends in 4:10 but the video goes on for almost 2 full minutes with neither an audio or visuals.
❤🖤💛
