My last history professor at university taught pretty much exactly like this. He presented everything like it was the plot of an amazing movie, and with a fair amount of humor thrown in. As a result, it was even very easy remembering things like dates, because he made them part of a great story. Everyone should learn history that way.

About Japan, not condoning the atrocities they did in wwii, especially in China, wich was absolutely barbaric but this video is right in one point. Japanese were pretty happy killing each other in the shogun era totally isolated from the rest of the world until the commodoro Perry showed up and started to bomb Tokyo just because the japanese did not want to trade. This experience was traumatic for them because it showed how vulnerable they were so they started this race in 1860 to transform the country and become a power, first in Asia, wich they did pretty quickly, and then in the rest of the world. The movie "The Last Samurai" is placed precisely in the era were the changes started and its a pretty good movie.

Oversimplified and a few other channels that do similar things are really good at general overviews of stuff like this while being entertaining. I think you could use videos like this in schools as a way to help interest from students. But there are many intricacies and details that these videos leave out that are really important for full context and understanding. The problem is when we are young most people just don't see the point or understand why it's important to learn about shit that happened 30, 40 years ago let alone 60, 80, 90 etc... so I feel you will always struggle to get the general public to care about learning history as we should. I've learned more that sticks in my brain since I left high school and college just from learning stuff for myself outside of a school curriculum than I ever did in school because it was always "the boring class".
If I were developing a history class I would utilize these types of videos and movies like Saving Private Ryan, 1917, War Horse, etc... that really show war for what it was like within context of the boring academic aspect of it. I mean there are even podcasts I would reccomend people listen to like Behind The Bastards that do a great job of teaching the realities of what these leaders and events were all about. So I think schooling has to be overhauled and updated to really be able to get people on board to care to learn.
I'd very much like to see part 2 and even some other Oversimplified videos on your channel.

  • @jokerj641

This is a over simplified video. Its not meant to go in great detail but gives a basic understanding of what happened. I like these videos because even though what happened was terrible this sorta does it in a fun way.
I love learning about WW2 an all the individual battles that happened. A lot of what happened they don't teach in school or if it does get mentioned it might not go into great details. Theirs just too much to learn everything in such a short amount of time. So many battles an stories from the people that were there.
I think depending what country you from they try to focus on their part of the war an their stories. That's why its important to keep open mind an learn from all sides.
I watched a few other reactions to this video an some didn't even realize Japan was in WW2. Japan was just as dominate as Germany early on in the war an fought hard till the end. When people think of WW2 i think most of the focus goes on what just happened in Europe an forget how wide spread it really was.

Schools need this type of history, they shouldn’t go too much into detail about it, just a brief overview similar to this. I really dislike how schools only teach about their own culture and history, rarely about wars, and if they do it’s only about their wars, not global history.
Why does global history matter? Because global history not only also has influence over their own culture and history.

Well done Irina! I know as a person who speaks only two languages, English and bad English, that this mishmash we use can get in the way of great communication. We have multiple ways to confuse the unindoctrinated. We say WWII, World War 2, as well as the Second World War. Oversimplified is the best at making history very understandable and entertaining. To those of us who love history, this is is how entertaining history is to us. There would be more of us if this teaching method was applied at a younger age.

As funny as this video is, no, I want to be taught by a guy who fought the Japs in the Pacific. We would ask him questions and he would answer them. Like what does it feel like to get shot, he was also wounded a second time by shrapnel. I think he said he was most scared when he contracted malaria, I think he said he almost died. He was a priest and a widower with two grown children, that's allowed as long as your wife died before you tried to enter the priesthood. He told us about stuff we wouldn't think to ask like the mud, the Flies, the smell and the endless boredom. And the best part of this World War II stories were he was supposed to be teaching us modern European history that occurred after World War II. Thank you immensely for the video and thumbs up. Oh and thanks father O'Neill Wherever You Are.

Kind of a similar style (in terms of presenting information, the artstyle is very different) except instead of telling about one event or time period like oversimplified the series starts with the big bang and covers all the way to the early 2000s.

The Swastika is an ancient symbol that dates back to 10,000 BC as a symbol for peace. Since it was a symbol for peace Hitler used it as propaganda during WWII & all the Nazi Soldiers under Hitler bore this symbol as part of the propaganda; also Hitler had the symbol displayed everywhere. So the Swastika became associated with Hitler's Nazi regime.

I agree with you. I learned that fun is bad, because you don't work when you have fun. First, wrong, you just need to stay focused. Second, learning is not working, but is often kept the same way. What is stupid because it is fact that you learn more when you have fun or at least a positive experience^^' This film doesn't tell everything, but I would have been much more from the beginning if we watched something like this from the beginning. I'm from Germany by the way, but Durch by blood 😋 I know what I am talking, because my ancestors are from a very funny country and I am trapped in a very... dry one. I would say Russian, but we don't even drink as joyful as we could 😮 Anyway, you're right^^ Thanks for your work here, always having a good time with you 😁 I also want to say while I'm at it to say that it's a pitty that Hitler was a sociopath. No one talks ever about the good things he did and misused to control the public. He created the Hitler youth, where the kids (officialy) do sports, craft, get entertained and learn to socialize. He let our highways get planned to create entirely new ways of getting connected, animated the people to work together and created workplaces. Sadly through the war, the Germans needed of course suddenly a lot of ammo and equipment, and those desks had to be filled, but he nevertheless knew a lot about how business is done and how people work. He was insane, but he had a great mind which could have let him be Nelson Mandela, Kennedy and Keyne in one person. I think it was as well him who encouraged the immigrations to get workers if I don't mistake 🤔 As I said, a pitty. Tiny heart, cold blooded, but big brain.

My grandfather was in world war 2, he was literally in Berlin Germany when Hîtler killed himself. That's why I wanted to grow up to be a soldier. I was a second lieutenant in the Marine corps during the Afghanistan and Iraq wars. But I will never understand how one man convinced a entire country to become mass murderers for him and his racist beliefs. Germany literally believed that Hîtler was a God. And sadly more people were killed by Stalin who killed his own people in Russia than during the entire war. I couldn't imagine how someone could murder their own people and say it was to lower the poverty rate in Russia and use the labianca to do his dirty work. History is full of evil people who are rulers of countries. So war is the only answer to save innocent people who can't defend themselves. That's why I asked to join the Marine Corp, because I wanted justice for the people who had to choose between burning alive or jumping 90 floors on September 11th 2001 in New York City and Pennsylvania and the Pentagon. War is never a good thing but it's sometimes very necessary to save the innocent and bring the guilty to justice.

Oversimplified is Ok for the sake of a RUclips video, or to teach a child the absolute basics.... but in order for history to not be lost or forgotten, history of any kind needs to have in depth courses available. This is why there are entire college courses on WW2 history alone. I don't know all, but I do probably know more than the average person when it comes to WW2 as I have studied it in depth, so for me I prefer an in depth lesson verses a highly highly simplified version.

I should have paid attention to what you were watching and what you were talking about, but all I could concentrate on was your beautiful eyes, sorry about that but your eyes are hipmatising, and your spirit is all consuming. I think that means your cool. If I had my life over I would look for someone just like you if there could be another one ? I bet you have no idea just how amazing you are? But I no. And that warms my heart. So thanks just for being you. Your cool little Kitten, and I want to get up and continue with my life, and it's your smiles and your tears that made me feel like that. So thanks even if you dont no why. Hi to your folks, and stay warm and safe, and how is your little dog ? Well I hope, I lost my dog or should I say my Angel. A westhighland terrier that i had for 9 years and my heart has not recovered and never will. I loved her so much. She was perfect and asked for nothing just a belly rub. Anyway enough going on out of me. I hope there is more people like you out there? Because if there is then the world will be ok. Your perfect. 😇🐈🙃🙂💐
