It was a wild realization that many people actually trend watch religiously. It wasn't until i saw a video of a woman asking what are we all wearing this summer that i realized a great many are wearing things that are "in" simply because they are "in" and not because they truly like the style and wish to incorporate it into their personal style
People feel the need to categorise and put a label on ANYTHING and EVERYTHING. It is tiring and boring, let alone dumb. What do you mean you’re a ‘tomato girl’?!!?😨😭
This is literally me, I’m obsessed with rnb hiphop and glamrock and it’s so difficult finding the right style to wear because I feel like it’s never good enough😭😭 I looked at a woman on the train today and was just thinking she not on tiktok or try to follow any aesthetic, she must feel so free💀
Most of these alternative aesthetics are based on actual subcultures that are anti-capitalist and organic, which then becomes commodified and feels very generic, especially when people identify with fashion and not anything else of deeper substance. Like, I'm Goth because I listen to the music and participate in the subculture of music... not just because I wear all black with silver chains. Even if I wore all pink, I'd still be Goth because I'm in community. Where's the community in these aesthetics??? smh
THIS IS SO ON POINT!!! like i started to go to more punk and rock concerts of artists/bands i like and instantly realised just how bastardised these subcultures get in mainstream society. Like the people ACTUALLY involved don’t even try too hard or do too much at all cuz it’s IN them not ON them yk. It made me change my whole approach to expressing this side of me through fashion too. Even a guy dressed for a desk job could be authentically “punk” you know
two things by adjusting to styles or aesthetics we dont actually associate with: we waste money and resources why aesthetics help some people (or at least me): it motivates me to go out when i dress up or even putting on makeup. it can also help people to be more bold. (i rarely try to fit in but just try to be fashionable to how i see it.) and like you said: band shirts and other things can really help a conversation to start going. my conclusion: we need to be conscious of what we buy and need and adjust to cool or new aesthetics isn't good for the environment (or at least we shouldnt have clothes rotting in our closet). it's important to know our aesthetics or at least buy basic/plain clothing you can where whenever. cool vid btw.
I really struggled trying to box myself in because people always asked me like what aesthetic are you and I felt like I needed to conform to something. So it’s been interesting finding my own thing and deleting Tik Tok cuz the trends were starting to get to mee❤️🩹t

trends were originally to help out people that just wanted to look good fast, so that will always be the demographic. it makes sense
I started to mix all of the aesthetics that I liked
some of the most fun you can have

LMAOO TOMATO GIRL
dressing as a form of expression is sick but clothing will never truly express what’s inside, fashion is a hobby not an identity crisis fix :p
i agree

right!! like the more you get into fashion the more stressful it can get when picking outfits lol
