I think it's not possible to use all 4 channels of the SN76489 at once on the Mega Drive because iirc you have to decide between using the third channel for PSG or to controll the noise.
BlueMue You can't do it with the SMPS driver. It's only written to use three PSG channels at once. You can only choose between a third square wave or a noise channel.
The Genesis blends two types of sound, FM and PSG. The Master System only used PSG. The Genesis reused this and added FM on top of that. Often both are used in Genesis music, but the usage of PSG is pretty minimal. What this guy did was he used the 8-bit version of the song that used the PSG to its full potential and replaced the minimalist PSG in the Genesis version.
But not everything is present in Yuzo's PSG conversion compared to what the Mega Drive uses from the PSG channels. Yuzo's has a bit more of the music in PSG form than what's used in the Mega Drive's.
Duh, its because Sonic Generations Green Hill Zone music is based off the original. And this is the original Genesis version combined with the Mega drive version.
Isidro Diaz Cotto You don't sum bits, you can have 8 bit and 16 bit at the same time but that doesn't mean they're added together. Because put it this way: 16 is the most the Genesis can handle. That means it can already handle 8. This is basically 16 using 16 and 8. But that's just an easy way of expressing it.
Oh man I remember playing the shit out of this game on my Megadrive in my childhood! And the Knuckles attachable cartridge was such an original idea, way ahead of its time.
This is what I imagine an arcade version of the game would sound like. It would probably have 2 PSG chips, and 2 YM2612 chips. That leaves plenty of room for the sounds, and music to play all at once with this higher quality OST playing.
this is actually mostly possible on an actual console you just need to sacrifice every PSG channel in the 16-bit version to make room for the 8-bit version
I'd like to try something like this once I can get my hands on a clean version of Green Hill Act 1 from Sonic Mania. I have a couple mashups I want to attempt (SM vs. SA2 being one of the big ones).
@Super0Andreu0Bros Well he pretty blatantly stated in the title (and description) that it's a mix of both. That, and how creative people got with music in the 8/16-bit era made things stand out depending on where you heard it.
@ThePyrothehedgehog aint the jaguar 24bit since it lacks for splitting the 64bit processor into 2 different 32-bit processor and well what ever kind of shit they did to the system
Too bad Sega didn't blend the PSG and FM like this in the game.I'm guessing it would have put a bit more of a drag on the system, though, preventing the so-called "Blast Processing."
Considering that description, could this, in theory, be played on an actual Megadrive?
I think it's not possible to use all 4 channels of the SN76489 at once on the Mega Drive because iirc you have to decide between using the third channel for PSG or to controll the noise.
Ah. I see.

+Patch93 So which driver can you install on a Genesis that can?
thats weird, i thought that all 4 channels worked when using the master system converter thing
I love 24 bit! *_*
Me too
Same, go to 0:00
Me too.
I wonder what 32 bit would sound like
But this is awesome
This is hands down the BEST version of the Green Hill Zone theme ever made. Represents how great the original zone was to begin with.
Blastfrog actually three types of sound. There is a single 8-bit PCM channel as well.
But not everything is present in Yuzo's PSG conversion compared to what the Mega Drive uses from the PSG channels. Yuzo's has a bit more of the music in PSG form than what's used in the Mega Drive's.
@@RWL2012 That's used for the Megadrive versions drum track
Japanese Master System also used both FM and PSG
and it can be added to European or US one with addon or modchip
Paris saint germain ?
You know? This sounds like Green Hill Zone Classic from Sonic Generations. In fact, a lot like it.
Maybe they did that, who knows!
I don't know
32-bit remix? (Sonic 1 GBA)
Wow. I absolutely love the sound made by these two combined like this. Good job!
This sounds... so beautiful... gosh I did NOT think it would sound this pretty and vibrant!
This sounds a LOT like the Generations remix, just 16 bit. Who agrees?
SGNRyan yes I am in
i agree
SGNRyan me!
Duh, its because Sonic Generations Green Hill Zone music is based off the original. And this is the original Genesis version combined with the Mega drive version.
SirRedDust wow really no shit
i dont know wtf i was doing in 1993 when this banger dropped
Holy shit, this sounds sweet! I actually really wanna do this for my Sonic 1 hack. Thanks for the great idea, and good work on this!
This is a 24-bit song :-)
there is no 24 bit
... Sum up 8 and 16 and you get 24 this is a 24 bit song

oh
***** XD
Oh
my
GOD!!
Whats that! Its the final Green Hill theme!!
It's over 9000.
Oh man I remember playing the shit out of this game on my Megadrive in my childhood! And the Knuckles attachable cartridge was such an original idea, way ahead of its time.
now all we need is the weird sega smash pack version with two psgs and no fm and bam, 56-bit
Does the Sega Smash Pack emulate two TI Chips and the PCM audio?
I love the mashup! This is def going to my sonic songs playlist
I love the 8 bit part it's so funny! It so fits in.
hey we both have roblox

@@H128 thank you for saying it for me before I found it again
@@LYB4 you're welcome
The best combination 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤
This has no dislikes for a damn good reason!
Amazing job sir!
No dislikes yet. Wow.
this sound so cool! I love it.
ive always wanted to hear both mixed together
yep
Try speeding up this music on speed 1.25
Power Sneakers speed
Nah, it's more like 1.4x custom speed.
This is what I imagine an arcade version of the game would sound like. It would probably have 2 PSG chips, and 2 YM2612 chips. That leaves plenty of room for the sounds, and music to play all at once with this higher quality OST playing.
How many times while listening to this did I want to say: SEGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGA!
this is actually mostly possible on an actual console
you just need to sacrifice every PSG channel in the 16-bit version to make room for the 8-bit version
incredible!!!!!
i love it
AHH the good old days
And the third square wave in the PSG chip is often used to shape the noise that comes from the chip's noise generator. :)
So it's 24-bit?
Yes. That's my joke.
SPM1 SNK marketed the Neo Geo as 24-bit when in reality it had 16-bit and 8-bit processors, same as the Mega Drive / Genesis :-)
E for effort, bro!
That's MY joke XD
RWL2012 fuck you you
RWL2012 So basically, SNK took the Atari Jaguar approach with the Neo Geo
@@LateNightPerson no, atari had 7 processors contained in 3 chips, the Neo Geo had an 8 bit CPU and a 16 bit CPU.
It should be in Sonic Mania
I'd like to try something like this once I can get my hands on a clean version of Green Hill Act 1 from Sonic Mania.
I have a couple mashups I want to attempt (SM vs. SA2 being one of the big ones).
very good remix of Sonic in 8 bit I subscribe
it's not.
This song just made my day =)
1.25 speed up shoes
This is amazing.
You know what I mean by that.
Sonic 1 (SMS/GG) & Sonic 1 (MD/Sega Genesis) fused, now they are one.
wait why does this actually sound good...
16 + 8 = 24
THIS IS EPIC
@Super0Andreu0Bros Well he pretty blatantly stated in the title (and description) that it's a mix of both. That, and how creative people got with music in the 8/16-bit era made things stand out depending on where you heard it.
Just taking the best of both worlds
Best mix ever
16+8 bit= Teh Epicness
wow this sounds awesome!
ah yes
*24bit*
This is awesome
introducing sonic 1! a mario and sonic game!
Initciv Ymra i know!
Sonic 8 bit is a thing! The master system version
and it doesn't have mario in it.
the lead sounds more fuller and I like it
Glorious
That's We Call 18-bit!
das spiel hab ich gelieb auf meinen schönen sega megadrive 16 bit grafik das war schon was feines
16 Bits + 8 Bits = 24 Bits

This is so cool anyway I want to try something like this too!
Nice!
According to my calculations, This is Sonic Awesomness-bit
I love this remix!!!!!
@deadlyNytshayd Genesis Model 3? that one couldn't support 32X. And the Sega CD aswell
Green hill zone good future
Same
***** IDK it sounds cheerier
@ThePyrothehedgehog aint the jaguar 24bit since it lacks for splitting the 64bit processor into 2 different 32-bit processor and well what ever kind of shit they did to the system
@abckookooman Genesis' Sonic 1 and Gamegear weren't 256, as far as i know...
Why the hell does this sound better than the Mega Drive version
@CityEscaper like it happens with the Sky Sanctuary music i guess?
@ThePyrothehedgehog so what could the jaguar be since its has 2 different 32-bit processor (not 64)
It's so cool
incrivel belo remix da green hill !!!
@filipeflower you know the won without the added features of the last one!
@Michael Jagger You can speed up the 8-bit one
Too bad Sega didn't blend the PSG and FM like this in the game.I'm guessing it would have put a bit more of a drag on the system, though, preventing the so-called "Blast Processing."
Some sonic goodnes
Really digging this remix! May I use this in an animation I'm working on and credit you?
Yeah sure, go ahead.
@@BlueMue Thanks!
This remind me Sonic Generations Modern Green Hill
This is 24-Bit if you catch mah drift
i did super mario brothers overworld theme 8 and 16 bit. the 16bit one had to be slowed down
16-bit + 8-bit = 24-bit music
nice.
Sonic running on gba
I changed the playback speed of this video to 0.75x so it sounds like PAL version.
This should have been the theme of the original Sonic the hedgehog
but...no
it really doesn't?
the fm channel exists on a 16-bit console
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Should've been used in Sonic Generations.
It's 12-bit!
16bit sounds a bit like the gba version for some reason.
@ThePyrothehedgehog thx :D
Can I have 30 min version
Right click the video and click loop.
Sounds kinda like the Sonic Generations version.
odd its like the 8 bit and a higher bit are mixed up in this song ^^
And Sega made the first 24 Bit system
What new one ?
Sonic generation for the Genesis
Sonic the 816 bit Hedgehog 1
can u make an 8 bit version a my sweet passion
Jocelyn c'est le pape de Vitry-sur-Orne
where does the 8bit version play? :(
sonic 1 (master system)
Game Gear
yes sonic :O
the old mega drive had better features then the new one did
slightly improved green hill zone.
Was the OST the same for NEO GEO pocket?
No, it wasn't.
RassilonTDavros
Not the end of the world. Sure many or at least some great chips were licenced over from various games.
The PSG chip is very similar though
