Hey great video. I am not an engineer, I am an animator. I need more power for heavy projects. Should I use VMs, If yes, why is the windows license so expensive? Thanks
Hello. Engineer here. To answer your questions: 1. Should you use VMs? Yes, and no. As with most things in tech (and other fields of expertise, really), it depends. If it's a short-term project, then yes. If it's a long-term project, as with your case, then no. The costs, over time, will add up to a lot. I highly recommend that you build your own powerful PC, or buy a ready-made one. A good place to start would be to look into a product like the Dell Precision 7820. Let me know if you have any questions. Now to your second question: 2. Why is a Windows license so expensive? Good question. Windows is proprietary software. That's one. Two, Microsoft kinda, sorta holds a monopoly in the desktop operating system space. At the time of writing this, 73% of users run Windows, then MacOS comes second at just 15%. Imagine that. So, yeah, they kinda can (and do) set whatever price they think of. It's not just Windows. Microsoft Office is also notoriously expensive. Sometimes even more expensive than the Windows OS. In fact, get this, the Microsoft website lists the price of Office 2024 as $250, compared to Windows 11's price of $140! So, that's it. Once again, feel free to ask any questions.
@ Thanks for the reply , it helped clarify a lot , but I’m not talking about OEM Microsoft software , but specifically in context to VMs which is super expensive
@@Yxmaja Hello, again. You asked why the Windows license is so expensive. The reasons I gave also apply to the VMs. The license is expensive because Windows is proprietary software, and also because of the monopoly thing.
