About Dead End Hip Hop:
No scripts. It's pure unfiltered hip hop conversations and album reviews. No politics. No BS. We Are The People.
One thing i always loved about dead end was how yall are just giving your opinion without any grades. That made you guys more unique imo! Also i think most of this review was yall talking about each other grades. Takes a lot away from your usual format where we get to hear you discuss and talk about songs, verses, features etc. But hey, im always open to try new things. Just a thought. Dont know if this is the popular opinion or not.
I like the grading system, but I’d prefer if y’all saved that for the end. I felt like yall didn’t talk about the songs enough and it was more of a conversation about the grade
Agreed save it for the end
And I think they tend to get stuck talk on semantics like that. So the grade should be summation of the conversation and not the conversation starter
Agreed
That's how I feel on all the classic reviews. They just talk about their reaction to the album when they came out and not discussing the music itself
@@AndersOHMoberg great way to put it. Summation, not the starter
The grading thing doesn't work at all guys, sorry. I love the free discussion of music that DEHH does so well
I think the grading system works for de365 because there's only ken and feefo, when it's 4 or more it almost becomes a homework assignment. I think if you guys wanted to keep the grading for dehh just say the overall letter grade at the end and the rest of the video is just talking about the music. There was an old run the jewels interview you guys did where el-p said he loves your reviews because you guys review albums like his friends talk about albums. There's a reason why you guys have been and always will be the best hip hop review channel 👍
you are spittin FACTS
not a fan of the grading system, feels like it takes away from
actually talking about the contents of the music. also it’d be a little weird to judge albums on the same rubric when music can be treated for vastly different reasons
I didnt need a grading. Numbers always feel very arbitrary and like everyone else. I think numbers have their place but its very reductive to reduce art to a number. I came to you guys for your genuine opinions and talks. idk anymore man...
They’re still giving their genuine opinion lol
@@emm3485 i knew someone would reply to that specifically, yes they do but they also spend half of the video talking about stupid numbers instead of what they got from the album
Not a fan of the grading overall, just the actual opinions on the albums are better.
Myke the Kid C Town is there in spirit
Yes lawd!
He would’ve never approved of this grading system 😂
Listen, I get what Ken is saying about the singing thing. But when someone masters their voice like Paak, that puts them in a class of their own. Not every singer can be graded on vocal registers and vocal runs and stuff lol. That's like a whole different argument. He uses his voice well and when he sings he sounds GREAT. He sings within his limits and nails that shit every time. Great review, I like that yall are playing around with the format too. Good shit!!!
Naaaaah, scrap the grading system, keep that shxt on 365 🤣💯
not a fan of the grading system in this context. Maybe put them on screen at the end but the format made this an argument about what an A or a B or a C is.
The grade idea is cool but y’all need to not get bogged down on each others grades to much. I like it when y’all discuss the songs on the album, standouts lyrics , favorites songs or production etc. There was too much arguing on each others grades rather than what you liked or disliked about the music
I feel like they should’ve revealed their grades at the end.
Exactly
I like the grades but miss seeing each persons fav songs. I’m with Feefo, this one is an A for me overall.
I think a good way to implement the grading system is to do the review like y’all always had and then at the end do the grading and have a quick discussion on the grades
I'm digging the grading scale aspect. Say save it towards the latter portion of the convo so y'all can give thoughts/insights first. Y'all can insinuate how each person would grade each project based off preference, previous albums, etc.
Always appreciate your honest views and growth 💯
I agree completely
I agree with a lot of the other comments here, the grading is fine, but it'd be best to save the grades for the end and prioritize the front end for open free-flowing discussion, rather than getting caught up discussing each others grades. It would also be helpful to put the grades on the screen as they're stated.
One negative downside i think is worth mentioning about the grading system is it may end up putting you guys in similar situation to the needle drop, where lots of people (I'm guilty of it myself) check the x/10 score then immediately dip. The discussion of music and albums is what drew me to you guys, would hate to see y'all boiled down to a grading scale.
I don’t like grading system. It doesn’t take anything about DEHH, I still get to hear your opinions and have the back & forth. But the grades dominated the conversation, felt more like a ranking or rating then a review on what they thought of the album.
Love DEHH. A lot of comments are talking about it, but I felt the need to express my opinions. Also, the lack of a scale/rating made DEHH unique from other reviewers.
Agree with the comments concerning the grades. It felt like you talk more about the grades than the actuel songs/album.
Didn’t think you guys were gunna do this since it’s not strictly Hip hop but IM ALL HERE FOR IT 🔥🔥🔥
They did the 1st album
I'm open to y'all using a grading system, but it should wait until the end. Maybe even leave it at a single letter grade for overall enjoyment. We still got some nuggets, but most of the video felt like a debate about everyone's grades.
Love yall but the grading system feels like it kind of stagnates the review, like the discussion is more about the grades you all gave, more than the music itself. I think it could work if the grades were toward the end as someone else stated. Still have a discourse over the grades but the music should be forefront more than the grades.
All these grades this is now Dead End Needle Drop
After watching the whole thing, this isnt it. I enjoy this on DE365 but on the main channel i dont wanna see y'all argue about grades. Takes away from talking about the music, the lyrics and concepts. One of my favorite albums of the year
I actually don’t mind the grades since sometimes it’s not always obvious how strongly you all feel about a project. Like the line between it’s good or just ok. But I think it should be at the end or maybe in the middle as well
Personally I think you should have the discussion first, THEN show the grades and then discuss how your grades may changed. Makes it a little more interesting
I didn’t like this new format. I come to your reviews because you focus on the music and have conversations about it. Here, the focus was on the grading, and each of you spent the whole review justifying yourselves. Please don’t go the grading route 🙏🏻
Like other ppl have said, grading systems are very limited in offering valuable perspective. Its nice that they're trying something different but the charm of DEHH is in the feeling that its just a bunch of guys who really love music talking about that music, and having a conversation about the artists. Grading makes it feel more formal and like opinions have to meet that criteria. Since there's more singing than rapping, does that mean anderson doesnt have flow? Does it mean its not hip hop at all? Multiple genres can exist in the same album and its not always necessary to genre-fy music. Good music is just good music
album of the year for me so far. they knocked it out the park with this one. I didn’t know I needed heartbroken .Paak til we got it! I think Yes Lawd has better songs but Why Lawd might be a better album overall.
my grades:
Singing: A
Lyrics: A+
Production: A
Features: A (y’all didn’t mention Rae Khalil killed it on OutTheWay!!)
Execution/Sequencing: A+
Replay Value: A
Overall: A
YOU BARELY TALKED ABOUT THE ALBUM❌❌❌❌
Anderson Paak. is an A for modern signers (2016 - to present), especially if you watch him live. He might even be an A+. He has an amazing stage presence. But in the history of singers, he's a B.
It’s almost July 2024 and people still pronounce it as pahk. Listen to one interview and you’ll learn it is PACK
"Sorry Guys....." - Myke C-Town
i think the grades maybe hurt the discussion here a little, a large part of what i personally enjoy about DEHH is the discussion about the music where i think this maybe focused too much on the grades
Anderson, singing wise, is knows how to use his voice for the music he's on. If the brother went acapella almost no one would be impressed. That's not an insult, many of the best singer-songwriters weren't great singers, but understood their voices and how to use it to optimal effect with the music they're making. Paak's a great overall musician/artist.
A buddy and i was talking about this, how it is rare to get an artist who can write, play and sing all at the same level. Personally i don’t need the best sing but i appreciate musicianship and songwriting. I agree with the point that paak knows how to use his voice and over what production. A complaint i have for powerhouse singers is that they need better direction when it comes to production.
Definitely prefer grading at the end (maybe replacing favourite tracks?) - took too much focus away from the discussion for me, but always love checking your videos out!
Noo not a grading system.. oh man DEHH conversations dead hub
If it ain't broke don't fix it y'all
hey guys - just wondering if yall are gonna do the best of the midyear albums - top five ect - im looking forward to it - thanks
Nah, that grading system ain't it, fits better on 365
I seen it said why laws at first 😂
Laws yes! Tom Cullen loves the ‘Why Lawd?’ album
M-O-O-N, that spells Yes Lawd!
Y'all spent more time talking about each other's grades of the album than the actual album
Put the grading at the end, but great review!!
Singing: A
Lyrics: B+
Production: A-
Features: A-
Execution: A+
Replay Value: A
Overall: A
My AOTY man I can just let this jawn play front to back everyday…and that’s exactly what I’ve been doing
l love this podcast ! great conversation and perspective. I rate the Album 8/10.
Same
This whole project is an A for me. A- at worst. It's an upgrade to "Yes Lawd."
This one is 1 of my favourite records of the year and clears the debut for me.. 8.7/10
Been a fan of DEHH since 10th grade, I’m 26 now lol please don’t start this grading scale thing
Singing: A (I agree with Feefo saying Paak has mastered HIS voice)
Lyrics: B+ (Vulnerable, honest and humorous)
Production: A
Features: B+ (Those October London vocals… bruh!)
Execution: A
Replay Value: A
Overall: A
Love yall, but don’t need to grade the reviews - i love the conversations (especially for this album, this man was going THROUGH IT)
When are yall going to talk about the hip-hop documentary “Microphone Check”?
Knxwledge has been one of my favorite musicians for ten years now and he for me was the gateway to like .Paak. Knxwledge is why I enjoy these projects, as much as I really like .Paak's voice.
Fun fact: one of the tracks is an unedited splice loop looped for a minute
This album for me if I’m using the grading system is an A. Like yall said no one can do what Anderson Paak. is doing in the industry right now.
Guys I love yall, but I don’t like the grading system at all. The reason I was drawn to the channel in the first place was because of the conversational nature and lack of a traditional grading system. Just homies talking about music. Most of this video was yall talking about letters and why you have a letter rather than just talking about the album which is what I liked in the first place
This album was an B+ imo. The album had a perfect mix of serious, silly, and soul. I can’t give it an A cause it’s not a universal sound. Anderson Paak’s & Knowledge versatility are unmatched as a duo. I completely agree with Feefo, there’s no one that can sing like Anderson Paak… under 65 years old lol
Am I wrong to think this one feels more mature than “YesLawd!” 8/10 on this one
I give this album an A..When I get in the car, I put this on..Everything about it is phenomenal. Definitely worth the wait!
Ken is a serious hater, fr. 😂😂😂😂😂 This is an incredible album, if you like R&B, classic soul, or even melodic hip hop. Don’t particularly like grading system, but given that this album is an A- for me! 😊
Yall wasted a lot of time with the grading we tryna get into the music yall getting caught up in semantics
365 review on DEHH! That's wassup!
Album was phenomenal!
Flawless album. Well worth the wait
Album of the year!!
I’m gonna be blunt. The grading made this review excruciating to listen to. If you have to keep it, save it for the end but I’d prefer you just cut it altogether.
Nice review. I think the crew will find themselves in this new setup! Just surprising that they've just switched it up like out of nowhere ahaha
Not feeling the grading system. Even fantano keeps the rating to 5 seconds out of the whole review
YES LAWD!
DEHH wit y’all ear y’all need to check out Asani Hard if y’all haven’t already. He used to be with The Little PPL but now he’s been dropping solo shit with Harvey Gold and Kennedy White. they got Quelle Chris and Guilty Simpson on the albums too; Fantano and Danny Brown supported Harvey Gold’s releases
I also wanna hear what y’all think of Gunna’s new album too or LUCKI!!
The 1st album was way better, had more slaps too.
Let’s go DEHH!!!
Wow i hating the grades so much…. Especially on singinggggg. Not your lane….
Yall need to do the grades at the end lol just talk about the album like normal and then cap it off with ONE grade for the whole project out of 10 what is this ABC bs 🤣 imagine if pitchfork or Needle Drop used letters
Good job of Ken of grading hard if y’all keep the system moving forward you gotta be tight on it. “A” should be reserved peak levels.
Are you going to review Previous Industries?
AOTY
Ken is right vocal performance and vocal ability are two very different things. Anderson can do things well but he’s very 1 dimensional in terms of what he can deliver. There are sooo many singers that are just better in every way. Even with his vocal range someone like cudi or smino blow him out the water. Paak is B
I'd also give the album a B+ which is a 8.5/10.
8/10 for me. One of the best albums that we have gotten this year so far
That earl song is immaculate
I love this album, I’m like 5 album behind cause i have it on repeat. A+
Love the honest review. First time I played this I considered it incredible. I don’t go back to it as I should given my impression of it.
I love that y’all are giving grades now. I wish y’all used the number system but when breaking it into categories then letter grades makes perfect sense. For my grade I’ll give it a B. The album is very enjoyable. A great album but I’m not in love with it. I reserve an A or 9 for albums I truly love. Gotta give it some time. Also bring back saying y’all favorite tracks at the end.
If yes lawd had more open content it'll be a classic
Can't wait to see yall give Drake A+s on his next album🎉
I need Drake to drop a new album just for this new grading scale😂😂
not feeling the grades
The Hit Boy and Nas of R&B/Soul
Review Samurai by Lupe Fiasco!
We Here!
I don’t like this grading system. Please stop
THIS MoFo who thinks that Bruno is a better singer than Kendrick and is so put-off by the A-ratings is beyoooond wild.... and I'm being kind here. ;)
I understand that taste is subjective and opinions will vary and everyone's welcome to share them... which is why I'm sharing MY opinion on his horrid and profoundly embarrassing one. ;) lol
Anderson Paak is a Modern-day Soul Funk Unique talent with an "A" worthy singing voice... and let's not even get into his emcee skills..... "Yes Lawd"!! ;)
Whew.... we're supposed to respect THIS guys opinions after This?? Lol Theb he had the others stumbling, backtracking and overly-explaining THEMselves for their more reasonable take ... as if HE is the Arbiter of Truth & Vessel of Infinite Wisdom. 😬💆🏽♀️ lol
Whoa.
Gettin ya cheeks beat……BIH
Shit fye
there's no replay value for this. it was boring and borderline sad. I get that it's a different concept than their first album, but that first album had more bangers and an upbeat feel, when you talk about songs like Scared Money, I get Bigger, Suede, Link Up, Starlite, etc
Trippin
Anderson Paak is the definition of mid
Fireeeeeeee
