Hi, 3o year veteran from Florida here. Some helpful hints about the cart. I have one and have used it for 5-6 years now. 1. don't over weight the drawers that will cause them to not stay on track, 2. About once a year you will need to use the wrench tool to tighten it up, especially if you move it around a lot it will loosen up and become leaning. 3. Don't try to move it if you have locked the wheels, that will also cause it to loosen up. 4. I don't suggest it for student use, even high school student which I teach can be too rough with the drawers and break them, this happened to my team mate. If you are careful you can use it for several years to come. I teach three different subjects/ levels of High school Biology so I use it to keep my units that I am currently on for each class organized as well ass keep my running copy of our interactive notebooks. I hope this helps you out. Have a great first year.
The Name Jar and First Day Jitters are wonderful books to read. The Invisible Boy, The Good Egg, The Bad Seed, The Smart Cookie, and The Couch Potato are also great for your classroom.
If you’re using the ten drawer cart for yourself then it’s pretty useful and will last a little while. Highly suggest you avoid letting students use it. The drawers fall off the tracks if your not careful and students tend to be in a rush with everything.
Pro tip for building your classroom library, go looking at garage sales! So many cheap chapter books. I also had luck on Facebook Marketplace with retiring teachers selling their entire libraries! Also one other thing; those caddies are NOT durable, most of them were broken by the end of the year. The ones you can find in the Target Dollar Spot (not in the school supplies) are way more durable, and come in way cuter colors! Congratulations on your first classroom! 4th graders are wonderful!
Awesome video Amanda! I am excited to hear about your first year teaching 4th graders, and hopefully you have enough supplies for them hahaha. Seriously though, excited for the future, wishing you lots of luck
I’m on the side of not liking the 10 drawer cart. No matter what I tried it didn’t work for me. I really hated how flimsy it was but I was told I wasn’t supposed to throw away the little wrench you get to put it together which makes sense. So whatever you do don’t lose that thing! lol
I have an amazing idea with the light up pencil if it changes colors you can have certain colors as certain voice levels like Blue is level 0 or Red is level 1 stuff like that I think would be a cool idea my dream to be teacher
my friend is an author her books for girls are tailored to 4th grade the invincible girls club series rachel alpine might be good for your library. good luck
