    Athena is not the warrior goddess, she's the goddess of wisdom and practical intelligence, according to the myth.

    • @AncientHistoryGuy
      @AncientHistoryGuy  5 лет назад +3

      goddess of wisdom, handcrafts and warfare, hence why she wears a Corinthian helmet. There's a famous myth where Athena and Ares had a duel and Athena thrashed him.

    • @georgios_5342
      @georgios_5342 5 лет назад

      @@AncientHistoryGuy alright, but the myth was probably only a regional one, as Ares was vastly recognized as the God of war.

      Athena had many forms, depending on them her characteristics changed
      some of them are:
      Parthenus : this is the most famous and it literally means virgin (and Parthenon means ‘’the place of the virgin’’)
      Pallas/Pallada : because in gigantomachy she defeated in battle the giant Pallantas.
      Promachus : (Pro=initially + Mache=Battle + suffix us/os = he,she)
      this just like Pallas references to her warlike nature (it means that she is always first to jump in a battle).
      Glaucopis/Glaucopida : Homer calls her like this very often and it means blue-eyed. (Her signature animal the owl is
      sometimes called glaux in ancient and modern greek)
      Hergane : (Hergo = work, Hergane = she who works) with this name she was potrayed as protector of goldsmith, sculpture, weaving and in general of craftsmen and crafts.
      Mostly she is a goddess of wisdom but in some places like Athens is much more.

    • @georgios_5342
      @georgios_5342 5 лет назад +1

      @@manapo8205 that's right. Note that in the Ancient Greek world, Athena had a similar role in religion to the Christian Virgin Mary, who also has many different names, titles and myths among the Christian world.

    • @ignacejespers8201
      @ignacejespers8201 5 лет назад +1

      @@georgios_5342 Ares and Athena are both gods of war, but represent different aspects of it. Athena represents the more brainy side of war like stratagems, tactics and military deception while Ares is more of a brute warrior only in it for the slaughter
