Greetings everyone! Here's the updated Paladin guide for the 6.3 update! I tried to adjust a couple of things beyond just making the guide make sense for the new kit. Tried to tighten up my wording, cut out any extra fluff, et cetera. I hope it improves the viewing experience, and feel free to tell how you feel about it if you notice the changes!
Who is still looking at this guide in 2024? You bet i am! There's no guide out there like Wesk's, you legend, for the returning or new players. You are the sole reason i don't suck in raids and have a clear understanding of when to use which ability. Thank you!
You bet I'm gonna rewatch a whole 1 hour of leveling guide on a job I have at max level that I have seen before but now changed due to some adjustments
I don't even need these guides anymore but I just wanted to say thanks for all the work you put into these. Whenever I have friends starting the game, I like to point then years your videos when they ask for help because they're so comprehensive and well made. It's really good for just checking your progress as you go through the game you make sure you're "doin it right" too.
Honestly I do love the defensive changes Paladin got in the rework. It’s nice having defense buffs comparable to Warriors or Dark knight in terms of number of mits.
I recently started watching your guides. I've been playing since the tail-end of ARR and while I learned how to play, your guides have helped me contextualize certain ability usage, proper spacing of cooldowns, resource management. So as a vet of this game, thank you for still giving me something to learn.
Can always count on wesk to make the best guides. Overall i like the rework, its fixed the tight timing windows paladin had, has made thier self sustain in dungeon pulls insane, and the constant back and forth between magic and physical feels in line with what the job should be. It takes some adjusting since the blades is now a burst combo rather than a finisher but otherwise it feels quite nice to play.
Thank you so much for making this guide, it's a big improvement and you even gave good examples of when to use the defensive cooldowns, that really helped!
This is great! You really do have the best job guides around. All of the others I’ve seen just focus on level cap. I appreciate how you go through what you should be using through each expansion. Bravo! I was checking out your old one and thought you probably wouldn’t update it since it takes so much to do. Glad I was mistaken. Bravo!
Thank you so much for this and all of your other guides. I don't know if you'll even see this comment but want to tell you how valuable your guides and content have been to me as a beginner to the game who looked at all of the icons on my bar and went... "what does any of this mean?!". I think I've watched and gotten good use out of all of your guides and enjoy your other content as well. That said, I saw your Three Years Of WeskAlber video. I hear how hard and sometimes harsh the realities of creating RUclips content are, and want to encourage you to do what you enjoy doing, because ultimately the person who has to be satisfied is you, not us. If that means continuing, great, but if you need a break, or even needed to stop for your mental health, I'd totally understand and I'm sure everyone else would too. I know I'm just some stranger on the internet, but as a viewer (and mental health professional), you have to do what you have to do and nothing matters more than your health, including stress and mental health. It's an aspect of our lives that we unfortunately still too often refuse to address a society. But if you're feeling burnout, depression, or hopelessness, there are people you can talk to who are trained in helping. Perhaps you already see someone for it, in which case I'm happy. Your guides have helped me to enjoy this game and to play along with my friends in ways and at a level that I couldn't have done before. I value that, but I couldn't be satisfied watching the videos if it wasn't something you were also enjoying. Maybe that means trying a new game, or a different format. Whatever you need to do to enjoy yourself and feel good about what you're doing, I'm sure everyone here will support you.
You’re brilliant and a godsend for putting this up. I am not loving the new rotation but hopefully that’s due to not really understanding it. This video will be a hugely helpful leap in a better direction for my relationship with PLD.
I have the same problem. The old Paladin rotation clicked super easy for me, and this new one makes no sense. Having Royal Authority give Atonement and Divine Might just makes things feel awkward to me. Personally, I wish they would get rid of Atonement and just give three stacks of Divine Might instead.
You're amazing man! One note for Shield Bash: It's useful for soloing Deep Dungeons. (and I suppose running them with friends) ...that's...honestly it. Definitely useful for that (and I guess Exploration content like Eureka/Bozja, probably?), so it's sometimes highly useful there. But yeah, otherwise it is kinda just there. Though it should be noted PLD is the only Tank that can stun one enemy then turn around and stun another right away, either combining Shield Bash and Low Blow or using two Shield Bashes. So it's not insignificant, but it's still got some niche uses. Just not really for new players, I guess.
It's been almost a year since I started playing FFXIV and watching your guides and I've only just realized that you keep image files of all your rotation guides. Lmao I'm dumb! 🤪
I've just reached lvl 70 and panicking on so many buttons to press. thanks to your vid now I know how the combo should go and re-arrange my hotbars to be easier on muscles.
There's a case to be made for using Shield Bash during early GLD/PLD levelling, because you don't have reprisal and arm's length yet and are most likely heavily undergeared, so stunning at least one enemy, ideally two with low blow, can mitigate the damage you receive by a lot. But by lvl 50 at most you can pretty much banish it from your hotbar entirely.
While leveling you probably also don't know how to mass pull, at most doing 2 groups. As you can see in the clip, 4 enemies is also not enough for me to die. An Arcanist can heal me lol.
Picked the game up recently and came here. First think I thought of when I saw this is "They didn't change *that* much." Did the lv 68 quest fight with the old 70 rotation in mind and have never been so lost
I avoided paladin since the rework because the community likes to doom post and it's difficult to understand how much actually changed through text alone. Your guide helped me understand it from the ground up and it honestly feels a lot cleaner now outside of goring blade, which feels a bit random.
I just wanna point out, all the people who called old paladin a spreadsheet class, skip directly to 51:46 and tell me this is not the same spreadsheet jank?
Not at all. SAM has done the same thing since the ShB Higanbana change. It's just counting GCDs. Spreadsheeting a fight was due to needing to chart out when it would be better to do any other opener - mainly Melee or Magic first opener. This is just removing extra GCDs to align. Or if there's a fight that calls for it, they can do filler Holy Spirits instead for this specific fight spot, rather than needing to re-do the entire fight with a different rotation. Which, TBH, is also just what BLM does anyway.
Just hit level 70 and I'm wondering about the order of the opener (and every 60 seconds thereafter): I thought it would be Fast Blade > Riot Blade > Fight or Flight > Goring Blade > Spirits Within > Royal Authority > Circle of Scorn > Holy Spirit > Requiescat > 4 Holy Spirits (this way, you never have to double weave the off-cooldown buffs/abilities and still get the damage boost to everything you want to). Is there a reason the one in your video is better and I'm just not seeing why?
My favorite uses of Hallowed Ground are taking mechanics meant for multiple people, solo. If two people each need a partner to stack with them but no one else besides you is available? If you get a stack marker but everyone else is hurt, has too many vulns or is dead? Hallowed Ground to the rescue.
Why does Confiteor even have a weaker base potency? At a glance, it doesn't seem possible to execute it without Requiescat first, granting Confiteor Ready, so it seems like every time you use it, it's always a potency of 900. What kind of mistake would even lead to somehow executing Confiteor with the weaker 400 potency?
Question about insert opener where the suggestion of drop 2 Atonement Does the 2 Atonement is exactly the red one? Does performing full 3 Atonement of the combo then on the second Atonement combo just using only 1 Atonement then start the opener again? I mean it is easier to count this way then keep self reminder that there have to be 2 Atonement 2 times. Thank you PS. more than the fix of PLD receive the effect of PLD own Divine Veil, I love that they finally fixed that PLD don't need a healing spell to trigger Divine Veil. Many times, I was forced to use Clemency because I attempted to use Divine Veil and healers use oGCD heal which did not trigger Divine Veil til the very last second.
Great guide as always! Even though personally I really don't like how the rework changed how the job plays offensively, I feel these guides always really do a good job of explaining stuff to newer people.
friendly reminder to not drop atonement, just shift your 123 basic combo like shift your gcd into FoF by saving your atonement and holy spirits stacks like instead of 1 2 3 atonements holy, do 1 2 3 1 2 atonement > FoF goring confiteors > holy spirit > atonements sometimes you might even shifted to the point of not having a single stack going into FoF like 3 1 2 atonement holy > FoF > goring > all 4 confiteors > 3 to get your stacks > you still have 2 gcd worth of FoF left so spend it on HS then an Atonement
I get paladins here and there that throw clemency while I’m the healer in a dungeon. If I see it, I just tell them, “I got you, fam. No need for clemency.” It’s kinda funny when I’m a White Mage and have Benediction ready

Easily the best FFXIV job guides on RUclips period. Big thanks for all the hard work you put into these.

This guy has single handedly made me play every class job in the game
I’d say Cover finds the most use when you’re playing the off-tank role since you’re closer to your party members then
So excited to see this pop up in my notifications. Thank you!
Coming back to the game after burning out during Abyssos, and this is very appreciated. Thank you, as always, Wesk!

Thank God for your guides. I dread having to level jobs I don't like for the amaro mount.

Is there a reason the one in your video is better and I'm just not seeing why?
I build the rotations in a way that get you used to Level 90. Level 90, you're double weaving without building a dedicated Single Weave opener.
@WeskAlber copy, thank you. I remember hearing that in some/all of your videos now. Your stuff is awesome by the way, thank you so much!
My favorite uses of Hallowed Ground are taking mechanics meant for multiple people, solo. If two people each need a partner to stack with them but no one else besides you is available? If you get a stack marker but everyone else is hurt, has too many vulns or is dead? Hallowed Ground to the rescue.

friendly reminder to not drop atonement, just shift your 123 basic combo
like shift your gcd into FoF by saving your atonement and holy spirits stacks
like instead of 1 2 3 atonements holy, do 1 2 3 1 2 atonement > FoF goring confiteors > holy spirit > atonements
sometimes you might even shifted to the point of not having a single stack going into FoF
like 3 1 2 atonement holy > FoF > goring > all 4 confiteors > 3 to get your stacks > you still have 2 gcd worth of FoF left so spend it on HS then an Atonement
Considering its niche use cover would be better swapped with a skill acquired at higher levels like intervention.
