    The ons without sleeves you laid out on the floor look like shellacs. Don’t play them on your normal record player. Thy have to be played with a special needle at 78rpm. Also they are very brittle and can shatter when you drop or knock them somewhere. They are kept stacked horizontally so that they don’t warp over time, which shellac tends to do.

    My family had a television in 1971, which is when that Lily Tomlin album was released. So did many, possibly all of my friends and neighbors, and none of us were “loaded”.

    According to Discogs I have 2,298 records, but that doesn't include the ones that aren't listed on the website, so it's a bit more. Vinyl will always be King.

    you need a very specific needle to play 78's - I highly doubt even a universal needle is made for, or will work on a Crosley

    • @01chippe
      @01chippe 3 месяца назад

      They do make needles for the Crosley type players specifically for playing 78s. And they need to be played at the 78 speed setting.

      Really?! I would love to get one so those albums could possibly be played

      @@jordanamandareact The needle on your record player has a red plastic bit which means it's a 'plug and play' needle for Vinyl records at 33/45. Needles intended for vinyl, and usually made from diamond, will unfortunately cause damage to the grooves of a shellac record. It's usually possible to get a similar 'plug and play' needle with grey plastic on it (and typically the needle itself will be sapphire), which will be designed for playing 78rpm shellacs, and which shouldn't cost that much. Your record player must have a 78rpm setting though, otherwise even with the right needle you'll still have to play it at 33 or 45 into a computer and then use software to shift the speed

    I have that Lilly Tomlin LP. It is hilarious.
    Help by the Carpenters, IS the Beatles song. The Beatles were already broken up by the time the Carpenters came on the scene.

      You’re absolutely right! The Carpenters version sounds SO different I was convinced it was different! But looking at the lyrics you’re absolutely correct. Cheers

    Lilly Tomlin was in a film with Bette Midler called "Big Business". The obscene phone call....... he said what huh..huh and he said he would do what and he never left his name. Thats funny, I am writing this and your talking about Barry Manilow. he was the piano player in a bathhouse/massage parlour with Bette Midler who was the singer.

      @@01chippe has one of my favourite tracks in "Sing Sing Sing" With Gene Krupa on drums. They play it when the twins are born and they mix them up. must have played the credits about 10 times before i found the title.

    those last ones are 78rpm records predominantly made using a shellac resin, spinning them at 33rpm isn't going to work

      Carpenters covered Beatles’ HELP! Though slowed down, it’s the same song.
