In the last iteration of Ultra League, I used Shadow Drapion on the lead with Sludge Bomb. The coverage for Virizion was a must since my back line didn’t want to see it. The extra damage against Fairies and Guzzlord was also super helpful.
Non XL is pretty hopeful to see, though shadow hippo isn't an easy find and virizion is still a legendary that's not very accessible. Still, really cool!

I have this exact Aurorus and I actually have both these other mons too (even better IVs for S Hippo, though I do not have anything but terrible IVs for Virizion). I really hate Ultra League because I have nothing built for it, so maybe I'll work towards this team.
I'm a stickler on trying to have really good PVP IVs before raising a pokemon. So the Shadows end up being more of an issue for me than the XL. I have a good Aurorus and Virizion, just no Hippowdon (not even a regular one, lol). Big sadge.
You and I are the same lol I ended up just building the shadow drapion I have rated at 59% for great league bc I needed one, but it hurt my soul lol I want every shadow to be above 95% and my non shadows to be over 99%. It’s a curse

Just accessibility/investment. When they say XL, they aren’t referring to the size of the Pokémon; they’re referring to the XL candies required to power it up to the CP cap.

Unless you have a maxed out XL shuckle or maxed XL Marill, little cup stinks. Same for master league. You'll need maxed out mons. I'm taking the week off

I also run a Virizion on my UL team, and of all the Drapions ive faced, ive only run into 2 running Aqua Tail..the rest have been running Sludge Bomb

As it should, drapion should 100% be running sludge bomb in UL to not get walled by fairies or virizion. Non STAB aqua tail does JACK

Maybe Skeledirge, Pangoro, and Machamp? It's pretty tough

Aurorus is such a FUN closer I've one hit all 3 opponent pokemon before with meteor beam boosted ice on a cacturne
I used to run aurorus all the time in UL and never had much success - so many type weaknesses and it couldn't ever survive much
