Shooting a Sherman tank. From the inside!

- Firing a easy 8 Sherman tank's 76mm gun.
In this shot we fire a 16lb steel projectile at approximately 2800fp.
We modified the firing system with a lanyard to make it easier for customers to fire it from outside the tank as that offers the best view.
The shot takes place at about the 4min mark
This perfectly sums up my Army experience in the mid 90's. Sit around and wait for something cool to happen.
Or to get nuked depending on which part of the 90s
@@risk5485who got nuked?
I'm surprised that the case wasn't automatically ejected.
Same. That's what I wanted to see.
Same.
They probably don’t want the round case to be damage so they can use it again.
They don't let is eject because the brass casings are really rare and expensive. If they did let them eject, it would damage them.
To my casual eye, it looked like they didn't develop enough pressure to fully cycle the action. There probably isn't that much reloading data for this round! and they were just erring on the side of caution.

Its click bait

Thanks.
SkeletorRises thanks
Tnx 😁
I've been trying to find a video of how the actual latch mechanic works on the gun of a Sherman, this is the closest I've got. and sadly because of camera position I can't see how it actually loads
This video could have easily been 10 seconds of absolute awesome.
Didn’t seam to be as loud as I thought it would be . Thanks for video
Huh, that is alot quieter than i thought.
You know _shooting a sheman tank_ means shooting a sherman tank, right.
Loader: rounds loaded
Tc (tank commander): send it
Gunner: on the way.
Wow! Perfect! Tankx man! From Brazil.
Reloader=Clear!!!!
Commander=fire!!!
Gunner=on the one!!!!
on the way*
Loader=UP!
Commander=FIRE!
Gunner=ON THE WAY!
"Coon-Ass": CLEAR!!!
"Wardaddy": FIRE!
"Bible": ON THE WAY!
yes, apparently that was his nickname; but let's face it, it was in an era of the past.
5 minutes of my life I can't get back
Thank you for sharing the video! I've got a really quick question, if anyone else can answer this please feel free.
So the firing lanyard, would that have been common at the time? or more specifically during the Korean War? or was that something that was modified/invented way later?
All tanks have an auxiliary firing mechanism; usually a lanyard; in addition to the main trigger (often a foot pedal).
@@WildBillCox13 thank you, I was just curious cause I haven't seen one before on a Sherman
@@noahkim3472 That's because they generally weren't used, not unless the main firing system failed. I'm not sure why they're doing it here, the foot pedals work great.
@@TheAngrySaxon1 They use the lanyard usually to fire the gun from an external position, the age of the guns and breech can potentially make them unstable so firing live ammunition from the inside is generally avoided.
I know this comment is a few years old, but a pretty tragic accident happened in I think 2018 from a restored M18 TD firing 76mm rounds and both people in the turret dying. So usually restored tank guns like this are fired externally to be safe.
He was supposed to say "On The Way" now that's a tanker!!!!
Why did not the cap of the gun go out when you fired? Thank you.
Franco Palmieri we disabled the auto eject so the cases don't get banged up
Glenn Fleming Do not hit against where?
I was squinting with anticipation then, pfffff, a wasps fart..... a little dissappointing
lol a wasps fart
What was you expecting? The armor greatly reduce the sound. Outside, much louder!
Which is what Ordnance Branch wanted! IF you want burning fumes then a Firefly is a good choice. The 75 then 76 were both well behaved allowing for more,faster and often more accurate fire. Had the US built more HVAP esp early the legend of the firefly would be much less, but they didn't.
The Sherman was only a 75 mm round some versions did come with a 105 mm round but nowadays many modern takes like the good old M1 Abrams uses 130 mm which is one hell of a shot
GuninGames i doubted that the Sherman was only 75
Shooting a Sherman tank. From the inside!......Going by the title, I thought he was going to shoot the tank with a Panzerfaust while sitting inside the tank..........
Ok, I've watched the entire thing. When do you shoot the Sherman? All I saw was you firing a Sherman's main armorment
Ohhhh that sound it beautiful!!!
Was a pedal normally used to fire the gun?
cliff burton
Yeah
cliff burton watch the movie fury if u wanna know what the combat was like
James Burlingame yep we disabled it because shooting from the inside is boring.
James Burlingame fury is fake
it may be but it got some aspects of tanking right, the pedals for example
As a long time tanker, I've never heard of firing a main gun from the outside of the turret.
Apparently when shooting older tanks like Shermans, the manual backup trigger is attached to a lanyard so it can me shot out side for safety reasons.
They dont want the breech or gun tube to fracture and kill people in the turret, so they do that
My dream to fire Sherman or Tiger 1 ty for demonstration!!
4:10
firing at 4:15
Guys could have edited the long boring wait out...assuming they got it jerry-rigged with that cable so it can be fired from outside. Probably safer fired from outside...in case that 80 year old breech cracks apart upon ignition...Keep you hands & head clear of the breech man!
But the recoil appears to slide only half the allowed distance (or so it looks) ... 'puny charge', just for tourists?
@@USA2Polska Yes, definitely not a full military charge at work there.
can you shoot a tank from the outside?
if you have a long enough piece of string yes you can,
just a little constructive criticism, it would have been a great vid if you didn't block the camera for the most of the vid with your back and the rest with a one-sided comms.
He forgot to say "ONE AWAY!" prior to firing.
You mean on the way?
Yep. You are correct.
is that it?
What if I want to shoot it from the inside and don’t care about the view
Safest way to use a tank is using his natural system not using a naked rope like it was an artillery piece
ff to 4:10.. you're welcome
Fire. Fire.
Prefer to fire at the Sherman tin tank from outside lol
R Greenup it was the best medium tank of the war...
Hahhahahahhaaha, u serious? Ever heard of T-34?
Here you go.
ruclips.net/video/lK4HV56Qj_E/видео.html
S-u-r-e-n_16 late model panther was more or less the best medium of the war, but the t-34 had terrible build quality and non existent crew ergonomics.
That's why there was 70,000 of them seeing as they were so easy to produce.
Sherman was put together with quite a bit more care, but likewise there was only 49,000 or so of them built.
S-u-r-e-n_16 T-34 would have suffered horribly in Africa or the South Pacific. The Sherman needed to work well everywhere from Russia to Egypt to the Philippines and it did so brilliantly. It was also easier to repair and more reliable than the T-34.
@@wadewilson6628 I believe it was an officer by the name Leslie that blocked the upgunning and shipment of pershings to the Western front earlier than they did.
4:16 the shot
Shit.... waiting 4 minute and the sound just bfffffttttt....
Much louder my fart.
Shock waves can't reach you inside, you only hear the breech recoiling with force. What you feel is different, though.
I just come to notice why tanks don't have tires after a long period of considering tanks massive rolled chains a bad design .
Bullets
4 minutes longer than it needed to be
Damn an APCBC shell.
Start watching at 4:15
Watch for Kruppstahl
5 minutes almost waisted. If you really wanr to make a clip, do it like you should.
Mihai Pascu when you get your tank let me know how ya do it
well you may own a tank, but you still don't know the first thing about making a clip.
Mihai Pascu I'll take the tank lol
Glenn J Fleming instead of getting defensive take the criticism and make better vids, we all came to see you fire the tank, not to watch you talk garbage for 5 mins.. and when is more than one person telling you about it then you should know that you’re the problem.. not them
ap or he?
Oberleutnant Dieter ap
We didnt penetrate their armor!
wow!nice!who is this man?
That M4 doesn't looked cramped at all lol
It wasnt
All that bullshit, for a moment of silence and then baby fart, da fuck
You people need to remember, its a 75mm, back during ww2 these cannons were experimental and larger caliburs were scary to use, its not that big compared to our modern m1 Abrams tank that has a 120mm
This is a 76mm high velocity gun…
@retardcorpsman3538 that's suggesting that the 75mm was low velocity... it wasn't, it was actually pretty well up there at over 2030 FPS (~618m/s) . The threshold for high velocity is 1550 to 3350 FPS (470 to 1020 m/s). The 76mm hit around 2600 FPS (792 m/s), about the same as the 88mm on the Tiger IIRC, it's tough to find accurate sources on the Tiger. Officially, the 75mm was a Medium velocity gun, but by modern standard, it was well within the high velocity threshold

Some time today
I watched thw whole vid the time was 4:28
Too much work for what ought to be an easy firing process.
Dude wants to be "badass" but is clueless. What a waste of time.
That wasn't shit, I used to fire a 8" Howitzer!
And there are folks who fired 16" guns. What's your point
Trev DoubleU na I get paid better
Fury
'Merica!!!! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
that was incredibly disappointing, ya know it?
That was a waste of 2 min of my time
This video make me loss my time about 3 minute
Fake, this is not a sherman

Waste of time.
