  • This is part 2 of a 2 part review of the Top Studio master detail set for the Tamiya McLaren Honda MP4/4. This covers the parts in more detail, includes a look at a pictorial book of the 1988 MP4/4 plus photos of the completed model. Part 1 describes the pieces included and a comparison of two different Tamiya releases for this kit. Manuel Ozorio found these web sites for more photos of the 1:1 car and engine: CAR = www.gurneyflap...., Engine = www.gurneyflap....

    What a beautiful kit and detail set. A very amazing miniature of the real thing. The reason they leave everything in primer is to highlight all the parts that come with the upgrade so they stay pointed out and is more apparent and not overlooked or obscured in the assembly

    Ted the convention of a primed model with painted detail parts was adopted by many after parts makers to make sure modelers can see where the details go and what they get for their purchase. And thanks for your email today!

    Glad you pointed that out, TrunkMonkey. it makes sense, now that you mentioned it.
    Thanks for watching and responding.

    Thanks for looking and subscribing, Hendeeze! I thought I would have started the 4/4, but haven't even put it on the list yet. I'm itching to get it going, but I have other commitments first.
    Are you building an MP4/4?

  • @TedsModeling

    I think that is a fair and true assessment, Penske13. There are lots of parts in this detail set, many of which replace the original parts - so those aren't bad. You get finer detail as a semi 'box stock' kit just using those parts. As for the remaining pieces, they are for super-detailing. I looked over the parts again and determined they can all be added (or not) as desired or skilled (as you mentioned). It would be a shame not to detail the brake/wheel assembly for instance, but it does cost.

  • @TedsModeling
    @TedsModeling  11 лет назад

    No - everything is still in the boxes. I started an online aftermarket detailing site and it's keeping me busier than I planned. Can't wait to see your results.
    Thanks for watching and commenting.

    That makes perfect sense and it works because the parts indeed stand out. Thanks for clarifying this.

    Awesome video! Been wanting to pick up a TopStudio kit. Keep the videos coming! It's nice to find a Tamiya modeling video in English.

    Many parts, yes. Small parts, yes. Too difficult? I think it looks a little daunting at first, but if you look at a section at a time (brake calipers for instance), it's not that bad and next you know you're completing another section. Before you know it, wham-o, slam-o you're done and you have an awesome model. Many parts are replacements for the kit supplied parts, too, so it's just some of the added items that make it a little more involved.

    Hi Penske,
    Thank you my friend. I have absolutely NO EXPERIENCE at all and will buy a ready made RC car. I like the HPI Ken Block WR8 Flux. That looks pretty badass. It's for my kids anyway (and me ;o) hehehe
    Thank you for your comment and take care

    Looks like the builder intentionally left some parts primer gray to highlight all of the new components from the Top Studio kit.

    @boxbuyer2008 @boxbuyer2008 I can't list web sites here. Look at the end of Part 1 for links. Ebay has lots of Top Studio items, but most sellers are in Asia. I was reluctant to purchase out of the US, but it wasn't a problem except it took about 2 weeks for shipping.
    Scale Motorsport also has detail kits, parts and decals. Search the web with their name.

    Thanks for the video. I’m assuming the photos from Top Studio show a primed assembly to make it easier to see which bits are from their detail kit.

    Hello there, it would be nice top see the comparison with the old one, without the hop ups, could you do it? And also, did you buy all those items together? Can you share the link of the store?
    Very nice video, thanks!

    I noticed this was posted almost two years ago. Have you put the model together yet? How were the Top Studio parts to work with? I bought the Tamiya kit and Top Studio kit and will be making it soon. I'd love to see a follow up video.

    Hey Glock19Carrier. I recently picked up a Springfield XDs 45 - nice.
    I think I bought the book through Amazon. The ISBN number is 978-4-905248-03-3 and the title is Joe Honda Racing Pictorial Series by Hiro - McLaren MP4/4 1988. I searched the internet and only found one site that has is (at least it let me put it in the cart - everywhere else said Sold Out). They won't allow me to put an address here, but if you email me, I'd be glad to send you the link. It's expensive at 49.95 Euros.

    ted , im looking to get a top studio mclaren in the future whats the purpose of the photo etch pieces ? do they become part of the model or are they blue prints ?

    • @TedsModeling
      @TedsModeling  10 лет назад

      Some of the photo etched parts (and resin parts) replace the kit parts because they have more detail. Other photo etched parts are in addition to the kit, again for more detail. For instance, all of the electrical wiring and components are in addition to the kit parts. Thanks for watching and asking.

    Hello Ted; hopping you are doing okay...I made some references from Hiroboy, the original brand that produces the Top Studio line, and it seems more people are wondering if you ever started this MP4/4 build with the Top Studio set, including me...? Well; I hope you are okay and soon to start in that project, ok..Also a link where you can order anything related to F1 racing...Talk to Mac, he is the "man" I recently bought the Top studio set but for the 1/12th scale Tamiya MP4/(6)- correction-..if the 1/20 scale shown here is awesome; just wait to see this 1/12 set..is a monster..!! enough yaping...

    The maclaren 4/4 you are building here is it de same as the link here? www.hiroboy.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=80_85_105&products_id=1505

    • @TedsModeling
      @TedsModeling  10 лет назад

      That looks like the same model, except my kit has the driver and engineer included. Mine is the same Tamiya 89719 kit, but it has the figures as a bonus. I searched for 'driver & engineer' but nothing comes up. Maybe the driver & engineer set isn't available any longer. This kit does not contain the Marlboro decals. You have to purchase them separately.
