    Toads: are poisonous so animals wont eat it
    Dog: is addicted to toads
    Toads: wait, hold up

    • @Kayenne54
      @Kayenne54 4 года назад +29

      Animals eat them. Kookaburra grabbed a toad by one back leg, flipped it over on its back on the concrete in my garden... and...er...enjoyed dinner from its underbelly area. Without going anywhere near the poison glands on the back of its head. Australian wildlife has figured out how to deal with them. My dog got a squashed, flat dried out cane toad, and munched on it. I found her in the garden, kind of "flat". Chin on the ground, all four legs spread-eagled and semi unconscious. Bundled her into the laundry, washed her mouth out with water as best I could. Fast trip to the vet, and he said "Yep, dogs get addicted to them, they get some kind of "high" from chewing on them, but it usually ends in death for the dog". She survived, but I kept a much closer watch on her antics around toads from then on. P.S. No one told me to wash her mouth out. This happened 15 years ago. Before RUclips :-)

      Actually no. The soil is hydrophobic from drought and fires so it’s more prone to flooding and won’t actually get absorbed. Instead it’s washing the ash from the fires into the waterways and killing fish.

      tsimahei you’re so very wrong, Australia will likely never recover from this. Too much was lost at once, too much was already on the brink of extinction. A lot of what was burning in Australia was rainforest that should have been too wet to burn. Or areas that never usually burn. Firefighters put in a huge effort to save a small pocket of Wollemi pine, one of the world’s oldest trees that could have easily gone extinct. As it is we still don’t know how much we’ve lost that we’ll never be able to get back. We were already leading the world in animal and plant extinctions.

      @@gustavusadolphus4103 I see what you're saying. But his (and my perspective) is that his dog is a part of nature, just like that toad and everything else is. While it's fun and harmless to manipulate nature when gardening, the same is not necessarily true when it comes to either killing animals or restricting animal behavior. It's best to do it minimally. Which is what he does. His dog does it for a reason. And he can't care for every creature just as he does his dog. There is indeed a hierarchy. That's why we see stepping on an ant completely differently than putting a human being into a trash compactor. Cats are very bad about destroying wildlife....just for practice! But can I go save every cricket, butterfly, mole, squirrel, snake, bird, frog, etc etc?? No. Am I going to keep a ferrel cat inside? Hell no. Dont go abusing them for that reason tho, Shamans harvest it from wild living toads and let them go afterwards. Then theres people who keep them in Terrariums and keep harvesting the poison which eventually will lead to the toads death, its a defense mechanism, and if you get stressed like that almost daily, you give up sooner or later.

      They know. The vomit is ok it's just purging their bodies so the hallucinagens can run their course. But since purging also has to do with how clean your diet is, if they were fed a natural diet instead of processed food they might not vomit at all. Either way if it is something they purposely do they are completely aware of the effects and it must be worth it or they wouldn't so it again.
