Thank you for sharing. I have been suffering from acid reflux for 10 years and last month I finally dropped to the floor and experienced pain that put me in the hospital. Yesterday I had my scope and low and behold hiatal hernia. As it stands they are giving me meds to control my acid reflux plus diet restrictions. Surgery is now the topic of discussion and after a knee surgery that caused a pulmonary embolism, my anxiety is going through the roof. I am now reviewing my options and reading everything I can get my hands on as I am not sure if meds for the rest of my life will address the acid reflux or if getting surgery is the answer. What to do, what to do.

Thanks for sharing your journey. Trying to get an endoscopy scheduled. My pain is definitely getting worse. Hoping for some relief in the future. I miss enjoying food.😢
Hey. I had an endoscopy, which did not detect my hernia. I also had numerous scans. It took one doctor to feel the area under my rib and have be cough a few times. He detected it and put me on the waiting list. If the endoscopy cannot detect it, continue down other avenues.
Thanks for making this, I really think its time for me to have surgery. I'm in so much pain after I eat sometimes, even just a few bites. It's like my hernia gets twisting and won't let the food down, i swear it feels lile air is getting in my whole diagram because I'll have pain in my upper stomach , chest, shoulder, neck and back, it feels like a heart attack at times. It will also hurt to breath and I get short of breath when I bend over. I live in a rural area and the doctors blow everything off here, but this is just not normal to be in so much pain when you eat. My dad had this and they waited until he had to have emergency surgery on his.
@@tawanabellamy8686 I experienced this in 2010 right after I felt a tear in my abdomen. I have not eaten remotely the same the past twelve years, and it is now flaring up again significantly. No One around me has ever related or really understood. My wife used to think it was in my head. I was 26 at the time with zero previous issues WHATSOEVER! Ever since I felt that tear that fateful day, life has NEVER been the same! Hope you’re doing better. Im hoping to get a surgery at this point. They always told me it wasn’t necessary and made me feel like it’s not an option, but the doctors are wrong and I know by body. I know the pain is always in that same exact spot! These past twelve years have been a joke. Im just grateful I did build my business during that time, and had two beautiful babies that have brought so much joy. I just wish I could play with them and go to amusement parks etc. my physical abilities have been severely restricted ever since this first occurred. If I exert myself, I end up extremely I’ll like a major attack. It’s so scary and doesn’t take much. I also must keep something in my stomach at all times to avoid pain. Used to skip breakfast, now that would never be an option. Sorry to ramble, just saw you never got a response, and it sounds like you may relate to some of this. All the best!
I have had a hiatus hernia op 8 years ago and it was a waste of time because I still get Gerd symptoms. When speaking to my GP he told me he doesn’t know a `doctor who has had this operation. Why , because you can control Gerd with eating correctly and medication when required. The op was actually painless
I changed my diet, lost 30kg, tried prescription meds, but still ended up with Barrett's esophagus, polyps, ulcers, 27 fillings that had to be repaired (yes, I brush my teeth regularly) & the worst was constantly aspirating in my sleep & inhaling bile straight into my lungs (almost killed me several times)- & that happened regardless of me sleeping at a 45-degree angle. I'm 8 days post-op, & so far so good- I have stopped all of my meds, and can sleep flat without reflux or vomiting. The op wasn't painless for me (but I'm glad it was for you)- it was the complete opposite (one of THE MOST painful experiences I've ever gone through) & I know I'm not a sook or anything, I actually have a high pain threshold; I've had many other surgeries, have had 3 kids, heck I sat through an 8-hour tattoo a few months ago & none of those things even came close to the pain I experienced from this surgery. In Australia, they don't like doing this surgery unless you have severe GERD & Hiatus Hernia symptoms, that diet & medication is simply unable to control (they used to schedule people for surgery immediately after hiatus hernia diagnosis- to repair it, even if the person was managing with medication- but these days, it is no longer the first line of treatment- rather, it is classed as a 'last resort').
I just had the phone appt yesterday with the Surgeon. And i definitely need surgery for a Hiatel hernia. Next is the EGD test and after schedule surgery.

Can i ask, how come you had surgery? was it to do with you training? I have been told i can have surgery, but they said PPIs should be ok.
Look up techniques to bring the hernia down. There are pots of videos to help do so. They allow you to bring the stomach low enough so that it does not bulge through the asphopogal spinchter. You should not be on a PPI long term as that can lead a a long list of serious effects. They should only be taken short term. Please look up the effects of long term proton pump inhibitor medication.

Depends on your recovery. I wasn't even able to sit up myself 3 days after surgery without the assistance of my arms. Keep in mind you will have ZERO core strength. You'll be like a floppy spaghetti noodle when you stand. Maybe you'll be okay to drive who knows. I'd say see how it feels to just sit in the car seat before you make plans to drive.
Thank you for this video I go In November for my surgery so this has really help me to what to expect ..much appreciated

I tried controlling mine with diet, but I took twice a day a tums in the middle of the night. Plus I had constant sore throat and it ruined my teeth.

I have horrible chest and shoulder pain when my stomach is full.. I was diagnosed in 2014 with a medium size hiatal hernia and was told then not to lift anything over 10 pounds of bend at the waist, well I had to lift and I am pretty sure due to the pain in the chest and shoulders now that it has gotten bigger, I was scared at first it was a heart problem but I had an ekg, blood work and regular chest x-ray and they ruled that out, sooo, I put 2 and 3 together and realized what it was.. I had NO IDEA it was in close proximity to the heart, it is like right there underneath, no wonder it hurts like it does when I am full.. and talk about "wind" oh my, that is the worst about 2 hours after I eat, I could power a car..
