How much did it cost?
Hi Juan, I have two ESP cervical that costs $34,000 US and a lumbar I have a Spinal Kinetics M6-L at $26,000. Both operations were in Barcelona Spain. So add $5,000 for hotel and flight. Most insurance companies won’t cover out of the Country surgeries unless it’s an emergency. However, some or it may be few, larger independent employers “self fund” their employees health coverage and will approve these lower costs over US pricing. Here in the US some surgeons offer the Spinal Kinetics for one level cervical. Remember, always use an artificial disc spine specialist. I prefer a neurosurgeon but there are orthopedic doctors some might choose. Be willing to travel to the top surgeon because it’s your spine and that is a one way street. If you elect an artificial disc that fails, they fuse it.
I used Dr. Pablo Clavel in Spain. If you can’t afford Spain, in the US they offer fewer choices, but Dr. Michael Hanneson in Denver. Some people go to the Swedish Spine Center Dr John Hsiang (if he is still there). I heard a rumor that a Laser Spine Institute in Florida had been who Spinal Kinetics used for trials. Definitely do your due diligence.

The incidence of periprosthetic bone growth (heterotopic ossification) is very low in case of lumbar arthroplasty. In cervical arthroplasty it can be generated somewhat more frequently, still being low. But it can be avoided by a correct implant placement allowing it to move permanently, in this way the bone cannot grow into a mobile structure.
