    Nice video mate. Im going to be wiring up my wifes dessert caravan soon. I've read section 717 in the regs. In your video you didn't mention the protective measures required for this installation based on the customers needs and what genny they are using. Whether its ADS (in which a TT earthing arrangement would be required) or eletrical separation by way of an isolating transformer?

    • @Cablesmith
      @Cablesmith  Год назад +2

      Thanks for watching mate. The reason being is the earthing arrangement will change on this particular trailer depending on where they set up. They pitch in places where a commando socket is provided so that dictates the earthing.

  • @iainmcdougall3628
    @iainmcdougall3628 2 года назад +1

    Sean. May want to rethink the external plug type. By putting the cap on, this would cause an issue because the cap would collect water and fill up to the pins.

    • @Cablesmith
      @Cablesmith  2 года назад +2

      It’s supposedly IP65 with the cap on, from gewiss spec

    • @cumberland1234
      @cumberland1234 2 года назад +1

      Gewiss do IP67 plugs GW60426, I’m wondering if the cap is for maintaining the IP on one of those when unplugged?

  • @tysondundas1947
    @tysondundas1947 2 года назад +1

    2 main issues the installation of applicable inlet is not suitable for IP44 because once the plug is connected the rain can run in and collect in the plug. The appliance inlet should be mounted with the pins pointing upwards to be complaint. 6491x is not a proper multi strand cable. Tri-rated BS6231 or 318-A / BS6004 would have be a suitable option but a 6491x is not a true multi strand cable.

    • @Cablesmith
      @Cablesmith  2 года назад

      The appliance inlet is ip54 once plugged in, and the cable is BS EN 50525-3-41, have a look at regulation 717.52.2

    • @tysondundas1947
      @tysondundas1947 2 года назад +1

      @@Cablesmith having tried webserfing and can only find the previous version of 717.52.2 and my eyebrow raised to discover 6242Y (T&E) is perfectly acceptable so I apologise. I think I crossed 717.52.1 into the mix.
      I will have to correct you on the orientation of the appliance inlet. Because there is no seal and the plug enters the socket for IP44 to be obtained the inlet / plug must point upwards. By pointing the inlet downwards the rain can get between the plug and socket because there is no weather shield or gasket. When the inlet is mounted upwards the socket fits over the inlet allowing gravity to carry the water over the connection rather than into it. It's probably the most common mistake because we are more used to installing fixed sockets that by their nature allow the rain to run off.
