Documentary said these are very shy birds, that is why their habitat is out in swampy areas and such so they are not bothered...shame on this place..they torment this awesome creature for the amusement of humanes. It's all done for the betterment of the bird though, RIGHT?!
He/she has got home in Africa's swamps. All captured Shoebills should be returned there. Indeed, this is not his environment at all, you are right. :( Because no capture is, whatever they do. Noise, bushes, fences, walls, lack of space and privacy, annoyment, poor precious storks. They are not some ducks, this is just absolutely not for them. They can't simulate wide, quiet wetlands with the scale of animals they eat, the climate, air, grass, tranquility, space, etc. Just for watching them suffer, wasting their lives! Cruel, selfish attitude. It is better to watch wild animals just as they live home in their wilderness, via cameras, for example. Do the keepers ever care, what wise people say? Those, who laugh at them stupidly and scream around are animals aswell. They are the prison bars. Stupidity ruled.
What's with all the negative comments? The birds cage is huge.. beautiful planted, natural looking and clean water.. just like it has in the wild. It is just flying.. because its a bird!!! Its got space to fly.. and its out in the sunshine, fresh air and able to fly and exercise. The noise is annoying for us, but birds are very noise themselves.. just listen to a flock of parrots or geese.. deafening. The bird in nature would have noisy birds all around it.. and frogs.. in the swamp. Rather that saying how cruel this zoo is.. go and look how you chicken is farmed!!!!!!!!
because this bird is not being properly cared for. shoebills live in the swamp, where they can be alone and live peacefully in a quiet and private habitat. all the children and other people screaming at it all the time are traumatizing this poor bird because this is nowhere near it's habitat, this bird wasn't meant to live in an enclosure and be screamed at all the time. it's stressed out of it's own mind. the bird is flying because it's a bird, but this shoebill flew into the net roof several times not just because "birds fly" but because it wants to get out, it wants to leave. if you watch it just walking around in the enclosure, it's very sluggish, that's not normal for these birds. the poor baby is probably terrified.
Oh yeah, and this place should know about its animal's and have someone by this prisoners cage, because humans aren't intelligent enough to see/ know their loudness is stressing this poor bird. Pathetic
