Lata Mangeshkar happened to be active at a time when there were great lyricists, great music composers and great directors. She had the environment and talent to shine and she shone for many decades. Today the kind of songs that emerge from Bollywood (with a very few exceptions) are nothing but exercises in cacophony.

Sweet voice is her basic property and with own efforts making it better and change with time to time needs hard work, dedications and devotions that lacks in suman kalyanpur. She was too good till mid 70s after which her voice became really hoarse. Her songs in 80s and 90s are unbearable!

Lata Mangeshkar had legendry voice and is irreplaceable. Yet there are reports that allege that she said "I am Lata Mangeshkar and I will not sing with Amitabh Bacchan as he is not professional singer" . In movie Meera in 1979 by Gulzar where Vani Jayaram sang all songs proving that Movies can have good songs without Lata also. Also in Guddi Movie by Hrishikesh Mukerjee, Bole Re Papihara was sung by Van Jayaram, proving that there are good singers in Bollywood apart from Lata and Asha also.
In 1979 Vani Jairam sang in Meera because Lataji denied to sing those songs because she was already recording Meera bhajans withHridayanath. But what happened to Meera film bhajans lost with time. The problem with these other singers was that they were not consistent. Whereas these two sisters were always consistent and that’s the difference.
@@sash9371 I am not ready to believe that other singers were not consistent. Lata refused to sing with Yesu das. Now Yesudas is a great singer too. It is no secret that these 2 sisters were misusing their clout in Bollywood
There were definitely other good singers and good songs can definitely be created by singers other than Lata ji and Asha ji. However, when it comes to technicalities and perfection of singing and emotions, the other singers were not as good as these two singers, at least according to connoisseurs of music and music directors. Songs like Laga ja gale, Raina beeti jay and beeti na beetayi raina, neela aasman, and those of Umrao Jaan are some examples. The others were very good, but not as perfect. Often there are rumours about famous personalities, many of which are not true. Also, the reasons behind many facts are not known. So, one should not judge their decisions without knowing the details.
Lakshmi-Pyarelal left the movie Meera as soon as Lataji told them to take some other female singer in the movie. Even though they had composed one song.
If you don't know the facts, you must not open your mouth to prove yourself a clown.
What a foolish point you expressing ??? Art is open for all, there were many artist before lata and will be after lata, this is not the debate issue. She worked for 60 plus years with her own talents and dediction and devotion. Every artist do that, please talk point to point.
Why would she compete with anyone, when she was beyond comparison! She was in her own league and miles ahead of other singers! Even the famous and rather whimsical MD Sajjad Husain used to say, "Lata Gati Hai, Baki Sab Roti Hai!" Bade Ghulam Ali said, "कंबख्त कभी बेसुरी नहीं होती!" After striking the chord with Lataji, Madan Mohanji composed all his solos with Lataji in his mind! The quality of her voice and rendition were something that other singers sorely lacked; and they started a mud-slinging campaign against her! Today we see all participants in the various reality shows trying to sing like her! That is Lata Mangeshkar, one and the only one, the nightingale of India! She has left physically but her position would remain unchallenged for decades to come!

I completely agree with the comments the interviewer lacks maturity and manners and as someone who has the opportunity to interview such a once in a lifetime Sarswatti Lata Ji he has no concept of interviewing whatsoever and he keeps interrupting so abruptly that it really does put the nail in the coffin. Even on the day of letting the world know that she has sadly deceased and this news being so important the media are so embarrassing that they again failed massively with behaving worse than kids, He has really not prepared anything in terms of his own professional conduct let alone him knowing anything in terms of the fact. I hate that he keeps humming all her answers consistently who the hell does he think he is??? I would never ever like to be interviewed by the media in this country they lie and hide the real facts and I just don't trust them end of. May our Nightingale Rest In Peace.

Latajis voice was cinematic fresh n very melodious...she clearly mentioned tat she never said of not giving chance to anyone.n also she mentioned her style of singing was very different.
And she had so much work tat she refused those movies..n so to complete those songs maybe music directors choose others ...but lataji was thier first preference.also she said it was a false allegation on her coz some music director used her name incorrectly projected her tat she stops giving work to others.

She couldn't be an actress cause she wasn't as pretty as her contemporary "actresses". Good thing she chose music as her career and made sure all the other singers were out of the picture. Surprisingly, I haven't seen a single tribute from Sadhana Sargam, Alka Yagnik, Anuradha Paudwal etc...who came after her in the Bollywood scene.

For instance when she speaks of ghulam haider he interrupts and asks if the spng was aayega aane wala. He appears to show his ignorance all the time -- pathetic really!!

Playback signing is career and profession, it is not Charity. Did rafiji gave his songs to mahendra kapoor ? Did amitabh, shahrukh, amir Khan, salman Khan gave their films to other actors ?? Did tata birla gave their consignment to other businessman ? Did indira gandhi ji gave her pm seat to other politician ?
How can she have any rivalry with any singer when she made sure to sabotage career of her contemporaries. You hear about Rafi, Kishore and Mukesh but on the female side you only hear about Latha and Asha because she made sure others didn't survive. A lot of female singers sang but she made sure they never grew as big as she was. Neither did she mentor any like Ravi and Kishore did.
Film Sehera's song were previously recorded by Mahendra kapoor later dubbed by Rafi sahab . Music director Ramlal mentioned this in his interview. Can you blame Rafiji for this?

@@shirishkanhere9134 Mahendra Kapoor was a student of Rafi in his own words. Shabbir Kumar and many others whom Rafi groomed. We never hear of Lata grooming anyone bcoz of her insecurities. Being a great singer doesn't mean one is free of vices.
