      @@lspringerjones If anyone can do it, ULA can. However. with unproven engines in the mix and an ambitious first flight profile, they have set themselves a high bar to reach.

      Yes they will. They are currently working on updating SLC-3 to prepare to launch from Vandenberg.

      Engine section recovery doesn't sound like throw-away to me. Recovering the most expensive part of the rocket without the added development cost/time and lower mass to orbit of landing the whole booster.
      For a company like ULA, the move makes a lot of sense, they have a much more slow and steady approach and it would take like 10 years for them to develop a VTOL recovery system, by the time they'd have one developed they'd be so far behind it wouldn't matter. Just recovering the engines is a much more cost effective and quicker development process while still greatly bringing down the cost of the rocket.

    Well, not the same reliability. It's a new design and hasn't flown yet. Hopefully no other design oversights such as the tank dome failure won't occur.

      That happens for literally every rocket, don't try and act like it only happens to one company or organization. Happens to SpaceX, NASA, Ariane/ESA, ISRO, JAXA, Blue Origin, etc. Development delays are just part of ambitious aerospace projects.

      Most of the parts/systems that comprise Vulcan have already flown on previous Atlas and Delta rockets.

      ​@@salty_berserker_channelRL10 and Centaur have been around and flying for decades, the SRBs are larger versions of the ones on Atlas V. Only difference is the BE4s on the first stage, but knowing ULA, they had the BE4s tested to perfection.

      @@starmanxvi be4 has never flown. The two engine version of centaur hasn't flown much. Making claims that this ship is just as reliable as any of their other ships is deceptive. It's still an unknown.
