I drove all the competitors you mentioned and after careful consideration I ordered the 2022 CR-V Hybrid EX-L. The RAV4 is very noisy inside and the suspension is poorly tuned. I’ve had good ownership experience with Hondas and it’s not surprising the CR-V is the top seller. Loads of cargo space, excellent visibility and very comfortable seats make this SUV the best in its class.
absolutely HUGE in the rear legroom, its states 40.3 , however, its really 55.1 with the rear seat laid back on its furthest setting! EVeryone that sits back there says its a limo!
We recently purchased a 2022 CRV EX Hybrid. So far very happy with this 'upgrade' from a 2016 HRV. Roomy, comfortable and feels like a step up. Gas mileage in the city is terrific (easily around 38-40 mpg), highway, (30-32 mpg) not so much. I do wish CVT transmissions would just die though.
on my second one EXL L, AWD hybrid touring, do the basic maintenance and it will reach 500,000 and still drive great! h and the rear legroom is actually 50.5 bigger than everything in its class and above! thats with the seat laid back furthest:)
I just test drove both the Rav4 and the CRV Hybrid, I agree, this was a better ride and likely what I will purchase. The Rav4 was loud and the engine sounded like a siren/emergency vehicle was approaching. I've been fantasizing about the Rav4 because it is just sooo attractive. But once I compared the two in the same afternoon, the Honda surprised me. The CRV seats fold flat whereas the Rav4 has an angle making it harder to use for storage. The seats are super comfortable. I often work from the backseat of my car and I found it so comfortable. I love the horn honk! That made me laugh, I like it sounds more humble, like "Excuse me" vs "Hey you!".
Yup yup the CR-V is surprisingly smooth but yes the RAV4 looks really nice! Did you take the RAV4 on the highway? It's crazy loud when a truck passes by
NO. They give you a can of foam. LOL I put together a Full size spare myself via Amazon and a honda jack kit via the dealer. I take long road trips in mine and didn't want to be stuck in the Mojave Desert with a can of foam.
It’s still infinitely better than the rav4 in every way It has more space, more performance. Nicer interior, better handling, better suspension polish, better ride, better NVH, better build quality and fit and finish. May not have a phev but no one buys it anyway
Okay lets not KNOCK the RAV4 its knobs feel and looks great, everything else, substandard in comparison to CRV! Agin those radio knobs are the best! CRV nailed it, yes the models up to 2021 had major complaints, but checking it seems to be finally worked out:)
Very helpful review, Thanks Omar. I don't know about Hybrid Rav-4 but it's important to mention that Hybrid CRV's are NOT equipped with Spare Tire... Vehicle comes with a "Tire Repair Kit".
When you buy it, you get 3 years full roadside assistance and towing from Honda. I agree a spare tire would be nice, but then my wife would expect me to change the tire in the event thereof. I'd prefer to have her complaining how long it's taking for the truck to arrive than have her yelling at me about how long it's taking me to change a lug
Do we need to charge it or auto charges itself when we drive on gas? I have a 2018 Honda CRV and just love mine. Just have 23000 miles on it so may wait for a test drive of 2023 redesigned one. Is it worth buying??
Hoping someone might answer. I've had two spine surgeries in the last year. I currently drive a Civic and getting in and out is difficult and sitting for extended drives is painful. I'm thinking of going to an SUV for ease of getting in and out and comfort. Am I thinking correctly? Secondly, how is the CR-V compared to the Rav4 (both hybrids) for getting in and out and then comfort? Also, would a Prius still be too low or better than my Civic? Thanks in advance.
hey, thanks for watching. I really hope you feel better soon. I think the CRV is definitely very very comfortable and very easy to get in and out of. And as I pointed out, the rear doors swing open quite far out if you need to put some thing in the back. But I must say that the seats in the CRV are definitely more comfortable than the competition. That said, definitely go to the dealership and sit in it and take a test drive if you can to get the full experience.
I have driven my 22 CRV Hybrid across the country (2,600 Miles) Pittsburgh PA to Fremont CA multiple times. ZERO back pain after 10-12 hours of daily driving. Great seats. I had a 21 Honda Insight prior to this very hard to get in and out of that low car.
@Yee Tian Cold weather hurts all hybrids and EVs, and that tends to surprise most first-time buyers. Also, a lot of people don't know how to drive a hybrid to maximize mpg, and while these cars excell in city driving, if you're pushing more than 70+ mph on the highway then your gains are going to be marginal vs ICE CR-V AWD. Warm weather driving is pretty much on target and I can easily exceed city mpg rating.
Too bad another review over 17000 miles showed only 30mpg average. The wife's rav4 hybrid gets 35 in the winter with snows on and 45 in the summer. That's a real breaker to me for the crv.
Honda CRV was the darling of the RV world until 2014 when they switched over to the CVT transmission and was no longer 4 wheel down towable behind an RV. Enter the eCVT in 2022 (or beginning in 2020) but the Ford Escape hybrid is the only one with eCTV that is 4 down towable. Makes it an easy decision for me...but also a lost opportunity for Honda.
I got the hybrid touring. The rav4 looks too aggressive for a mom car and the hybrid system is set up weird. I don’t wanna loose traction just because the battery isn’t charged. Also the Honda just holds you and tells you everything will be okay. Toyota interiors are rigid.
Yes I drove a stick before buying this, I was worried but it's the nicest thing ever, the push button. It looks and feels so modern, same thing you find in Acuras.
This ensures the rear seat belts is an engineering tragedy. The smaller passenger up to 170 cm at a steeper maneuver can come "cut off" head. That who suggested it wasn't in reality. The infotainment is already updated, or is still so slow and obsolete? Hondu own from August 2021, so I ask if there were some improvements. I also seem to me 3 buttons on the center panel unnecessary, I don't use them, as the car is decided by the way of driving, so why the "Sport" button, "EV", "EV"? They will be carried by bags with shopping, which will be traveled in turns during the rides, or the food is filled better. On the cabs in the columns, they remembered hanging, why not in the trunk? This is so expensive item? Certainly not !!! Or such a detail. Imagine that this car has several security features. And again, I ask why engineers did not release the safety lights that when you open the door in the fog, so on the bottom of the side and warn from the back of the driving car or man on the bike or motorcycle. I still don't understand why cars that cost about 23,000 US dollars have connections with Carplay through Bluetooth, in this car only through the cable? I'm having fun about Honda Cr-in Hybrid 2021 !! After all, this car is about $ 455,000!

And again, I ask why engineers did not release the safety lights that when you open the door in the fog, so on the bottom of the side and warn from the back of the driving car or man on the bike or motorcycle. I still can't see why Suzuki with Cross 4x4, has been equipped with a carplay system over Bluetooth, here push it to an outdated infotainment over the cable. This is also input voice for telephone calls, unreal. Why something stupid? He wanted to finish it a little bit on the details, go with time and don't take an outdated Android. Otherwise I am comfortable with comfort and comfort car, that's the main reason I was buying this car. I look at various and foreign reviews and is paradoxical that cars are mainly tested in spring - autumn time, as consumption in winter is absolutely different - especially in the city with a short brief. At nice warm weather, I get to 5L / 100km values, but in winter I drive for 7.2l / 100km in the city. Before the car is warming, driving from point and to point B ends (approx. 12-15km). Another problem I found out when he has a smaller woman (162 cm) on the rear seats and strapped with a seat belt that accurately fits her neck, so if I had to use a security maneuver, the wife would strip "head". Again, I ask why they did not use these belts to take account of the height, as it is for the driver or fellow traveler? As far as comfort from driving and unpaved communication I am excited from the fantastic suspension-literally blessing inequality and is in a car to 130km / h wonderful silence.
Fastest and easiest selection system I have ever driven. Remember, there are no gears in the Honda Hybrid. Most trips require at most two selections. But then, if you are still upset that you don't get to hand-crank the starter, I can see why you might be upset. Want to go backwards? Swipe your hand down the array, and it finds the recessed "R" button without fail. Want to go forward? The raised edges of the "D" button make it trivial to find without looking. Want PARK? You can configure the the car to shift into PARK, and out of PARK, automatically. I think I may have pressed that button less than five times in what is approaching four years of ownership. Want NEUTRAL? Um, why? In a hybrid? Maybe for a car wash, but I've never done it. Need to make a seven-point turn? Because (unlike the RAV4) it is driven by only the electric motor, you don't need to stop in between DRIVE and REVERSE. One hand on the wheel, one finding those buttons at lightning speed, and it has never been quicker.
Hmmm...not so sure the hybrid CR-V is the way to go. Maybe if you live in a place with no hills it'll work. That said, if you live in a hilly or mountainous part of the country steer clear of this rig as it's gutless.

ECVT powaaaa 🤣 great review as always. Only thing missing is upgraded tech and the CRV will solidify its position amongst its competitors.
Thank you! Yup as soon as this gets the new tech from the 11th gen Civic - this thing will be unstoppable!
Your eco score is the first row, which is 5 stars. The bottom row is kind of like XP gain. You'll fill it out the longer you drive the car.
I’m not even a car person but this was such a good review!!! And I love your personality!

Hi Omar, what do you think of the new 2022 Nissan Qashqai hybrid 1.5 turbo coming out soon?
