    We’re going on a cruise and this is one of our ports. My question is are there any shops there that sell Blue Mountain coffee? Or would you have to leave that area? We have family that would love it but not sure if we want to venture off far on our own to get it

    • @CruiseCrazedTV

      Honestly, we have been going to Doctors Cave Beach for the past 20 years, and I have never seen Blue Mountain coffee sold at the shops there, but that does not mean they may not have it right now. The last time we were there, we ventured down the street just outside the entrance and looked through a number of shops. We did purchase "Blue Mountain" coffee there, but it ended up not being authentic. I really should have known better. There are knock-offs everywhere, so you need to look for the official Blue Mountain coffee seal. You might just Google "Blue Mountain Jamaican coffee official seal" to see what it looks like. If you are docking at the Montego Bay port, you might be able to find Blue Mountain right there when you get off the ship. It is definitely one of my own favorite coffees, and you can get it MUCH cheaper there than here in the States. It's one of the most expensive to purchase in the US. Glad to answer any other questions you might have. Montego Bay is one of our favorite places to explore. We will be docking in Falmouth for the first time this November, so folks can be watching for a video soon thereafter on that port.

      @@CruiseCrazedTV It really didn’t cross my mind that there would be fakes, so thank you so much. We saw that there was a Starbucks there? Do you remember seeing that? If not we could definitely look near the pier. We’ve never been here so this is a new experience for us. Still learning lol

    We are docking in Falmouth in November, cruising with Royal Caribbean. Are there quite a few taxis typically in this area? How do you figure out when to leave the beach since ship time is different then the local time?

    • @CruiseCrazedTV
      @CruiseCrazedTV  4 года назад

      I have not personally cruised to the Falmouth port before, but my experience has been that every place we visit has plenty of taxis ready and available very close to the ship. They count on being able to get tourists to locations to spend their money...hahaha. As far as leaving the beach, we calculate all that before we even get off the ship and decide in advance what time we will head back to the ship. I always give ourselves a lot more time than we will really need. Typically there are shopping opportunities right at the port, so we factor in the extra time to shop at the END rather than the beginning of the time in port. Hope that helps! Have a blast, and let us know about your experience in Falmouth. Be sure to share pictures with us on FB at facebook.com/groups/CruiseCrazed.

    Hi, you video is awesome! May I ask a couple questions. Me and my friend is going to take cruise to go to Jamaica next Feb. 1. Is it safe for two single mom with their little kids to take taxi to go to Doctors cave beach by themselves. 2. How much is the cost for taxi to go to there! 3. Is it easy to find a Taxi back to ship?

      I'm so glad the video was helpful! Yes, I think it's safe for you to go by yourselves. I would just suggest that you stay together and not wander away from one another. Keep your kids close. Especially once you get inside the beach area you will be just fine. Outside that area just ignore all the people trying to get your attention. They are very aggressive, but selling things is how they make their income. We've not had any issues over the past 20 years in Montego Bay. Once you dock there will be a long line of anything from taxis to buses. All of them are $7/person and they are safe. You will have a number of other people going to Doctor's Cave, so just stick with them. There will be plenty of cabs leaving Doctor's Cave as well, going back to the terminal, which will cost $7/person again. We always make sure to give ourselves plenty of time to get back to make sure we don't run into any time issues. I think the key to safety in any of the ports (as well, really, as any major cities around the world) is to be aware of your surroundings and to be cautious. But don't forget to HAVE FUN!! Doctor's Cave is wonderful and relaxing. I hope you have a wonderful time!!

    • @CruiseCrazedTV
      @CruiseCrazedTV  5 лет назад +1

      We have been there numerous times, and each time we simply take a cab/bus. When you get off the ship in Montego Bay, there is a long line of cabs/vans/buses waiting to take people where they want to go. They will ask you how many people and where you're wanting to be taken, then they group you with others based on your response. There will be others going to Doctor's Cave Beach. I believe the cost was like $6/person each way. There will also be cabs available to return. You just need to tell them you are going to the cruise terminal. I always give myself plenty of time before last call onto the ship.

      @CruiseCrazedTV  5 лет назад +1

      @@ecv4587 I completely understand. We are very cautious about that as well. We've never had an issue, but it's definitely a valid concern. If we strike out on our own, we try to do that first thing in the morning and maybe try to finish up and head back to the ship just after lunch. That way if there is some kind of vehicle issue, etc., we have some time to figure out an alternate plan. We try to stay fairly close to the terminal and in areas that are heavily touristy.

      Hi, Rick! It's about 3.5 miles from the Montego Bay cruise terminal to Doctor's Cave Beach....probably not something you'd want to walk. We have been many times and we take a cab or bus there - there is a line of them waiting when you dock. It costs $7 each way for the ride. Hope that helps!

      Cruise Crazed TV how easy (or difficult) was it to get a taxi back to the port...and how long does it take?

    • @CruiseCrazedTV
      @CruiseCrazedTV  4 года назад +1

      Wildcat 6319 It’s not difficult at all. There are a lot of tourists in the area, so there are likewise a lot of cabs. This is the largest portion of their revenue so when ships are in port, they make themselves available. It’s only 3.5 miles from Doctors Cave to the cruise terminal so the ride is not more than 10 minutes. Cost is $7/person.

    We're cruising to Montego Bay for the first time in a few weeks, & I'm reading mixed reviews about venturing out on our own. It's just my hubby & I. Can u tell me how much a can cost one way, & how the availability of cabs are when it's time to return to the ship? We venture out in other ports, but have heard lots of negativity about this one. Thanks for your help!

    • @CruiseCrazedTV

      I have been in Montego Bay maybe a dozen times and have not had problems. The Jamaican people do tend to be a little "pushier" than in other areas we've been, but my own experience has been that if you just ignore their approaches they move on to someone else. They just rely heavily on tourism to live, and they are aggressive in trying to sell items that will provide for their families. I do understand how their tactics can feel dangerous, but as long as you stay in areas populated with tourists...or on cruise line sponsored or well-researched excursions...you should not have problems. Feel free to PM me (Donovan Fredricksen) with questions about specific things you are considering doing and I can give whatever feedback I might have. You're going to love Jamaica. Truly one of my favorite places.

      That's how it is in Jamaica and several other places we've been. Our experience has been that if you ignore them and move along to your destination they leave you alone. Their primary income is from tourists, so it's just a more aggressive version of what we've experienced in the US with some commissioned sales people. We have never felt in danger there. And once you actually get to Doctors Cave Beach and get settled, no one bothers you.
