I'm worried about Izzy dying too. He's such a huge comfort character to me that I feel like it would be devastating for me. I'm taking solace in the fact that I think the writers and cast know how much it hurts to only be represented in media before having those representations killed. I don't think they'd want to hurt us like that.
On another note, I'm kind of glad Izzy's relationship arc has been entirely platonic this season. I'm absolutely not opposed to him getting a partner if we get a season 3, but I think he needs a stable network of friends and family before he can think about romance, if that's even something he'd want.

Zheng’s face at the realisation her whole fleet is gone, haunts me so. For starters, she tried to legalise her operation by trying to make them merchants or atleast paid workers, so that her fleet can live and thrive without all the violence, and she watches as her entire fleet OF WOMEN NO LESS, innocent paid workers, be obliterated. That was a look of someone who is absolutely shocked and devastated at the lose of life. This is I think a huge turning point in regards to how pirates will deal with the English going forward. I believe we’ll get a sort of counsel of pirates working together to not only take out the English but to have a safe space where pirates can thrive.
Regarding the Stede/Ed arc, this is what happens when they don’t take things slow, someone panics and bails. Ed is justified in being confused and panicked about what the future holds. He barely knows who he is, and watching stede become everything that he hates about the pirate world is overwhelming. Ed wants his gentle and awkward stede back, and stede believes becoming this infamous pirate is what makes him worthy of someone like Blackbeard. It’s a classic misunderstanding trope, But I’m hoping the most satisfying resolution to the narrative would be to find a middle ground. Where both accept the ppl they were, that they are a part of them, it’s the reason they are who they are today. That their experiences can shape a new and better future. I’m not sure if we’ll get that this season but I feel it in my soul that these two can learn how to come together in a healthy and positive way. I do want to punch stede this ep, but I’ll let it slide, poor baby never been popular or the centre of attention, of course he drinks it up like liquid gold.
Regarding Izzy and the possibility of a self sacrifice arc- honestly I’m on the fence about this one. On the one hand I do believe that self sacrifice tropes do have emotional weight to them, and if any character would do it, it would be Izzy. But on the other hand, all this work into showcasing Izzy’s emotional and spiritual growth, would be wasted and feel kind of cheap. Especially since his character almost died a few times. Just bad writing to put so much work into a character for them to just be like “well bye boys”. IF anything, I’m leaning towards Izzy being the reason Ed/Stede get together properly. Either because they put aside whatever’s going on to save Izzy, or Izzy is the one that puts into perspective that life is incredibly short, finding a family who cares about you is incredibly rare, and that running away from problems only hurts those around you.
Izzy is their unicorn! Their symbol peace, of unity. He keeps the crew together, alive, thriving. It would be such a disservice to this show to rid the revenge of their unicorn.

I have started to see death flags, but I just can't figure out how a self-sacrifice would work narratively. His whole arc this season is that he's started disentangling his life from Ed and living FOR himself and WITH the crew. Him sacrificing his life for others, even for the crew, would be character regression and a weird message for OFMD. Like "Letting down your guard and caring for others WILL literally kill you".
Like if anything it sounds like something Izzy might try to do in a moment of hopelessness and then get stopped by the narrative

    • @waywardlyfe3092
      @waywardlyfe3092 Год назад

@@gota7738 I completely agree! Narratively speaking, there’s nothing to gain from an izzy self sacrifice arc. Not only is it in bad taste to have a suicidal character be the martyr character, especially after a traumatic experience, but also having an episode in which izzy is “coming out” of sorts, be proceeded by his death, ofmd would just be another show that continues to perpetuate the bury your gays trope.
That being said we’d have to see what kind of situation would warrant such a drastic measure. I’m honestly completely confident in the writers of ofmd, they haven’t disappointed us so far, and have more or less live up to what most of us wanted to feel out of this season. Izzy is the glue that keeps the crew together, whether he likes it or not. Just makes absolutely no sense to rid them of their glue.
I’ve heard there’s some theories based on an interview with David Jenkins. But I’ve been thinking about the context and what we’ve seen so far and if we had any scene that paralleled the opening scene in 2x01 it would be Stede protecting izzy. Maybe taking one in the gut for Izzy.

@@waywardlyfe3092 I think the rule of three with Izzy having two fake out deaths, Jenkins description of the ending calling back to the first scene, alongside the BTS clips has got me nervous.
However I'm hoping that being a comedy, the rule of three will be subverted as a joke. "Oh no he'd actually dead for real this time. We mean i-PSYCHE, we told you! He's an indestructible little fucker!"
I've been burnt before so I am always nervous about relying on good writing for story outcomes, especially with the nature of tv production being so chaotic. However I'm also fingers crossed that enough people involved are aware of the 'bury your gays' trope that they'd flag it if it got through.
We also haven't had Izzy heroically come to save Stede and Ed in their hour of need after they accidentally ground the ship, only for Izzy to also embarrassingly ground his ship in a full circle call back to his first appearance.
Like is OMFD really going to pass up that historical truth joke?

I feel so bad for Zheng, Jackie, & everyone else targeted by the obnoxious minor prince.
And if Izzy gets a scratch next week, much less get hurt (even more) or KILLED, I might just start a riot!
Glad you were getting as mad at their lack of communication as much as I was.

I feel so bad for all of them. All because the poor Prince got too cocky and left a calling card.
I think sooo man people will riot if Izzy gets hurt. I'm fearful for him, Wee John (because he's barely had anything to do all season) & Fang (because he's the only one who would affect everyone as much as Izzy).
I really hope they can stick the landing on Thursday but I have faith in the show to give us a hell of an episode.

Something's occured to me. No member of the crew was on The Revenge when the ships were being destroyed, the writers made sure to tell us that with the bonus scene.
The Revenge is gone, collateral damage next to all of Zheng's ships. Stede's got no ship to be Captain of and it could be months if not YEARS before another one is built.
Maybe this is what Stede and Ed needed. A clean slate, neither of them Captain's, neither with a ship, EQUALS. Maybe they will become Innkeepers after all (although where they'd get the money to get one/build one with the ship gone, I don't know! Lol.

Stede was a dick but Ed needs to grow up a lot. Stede is always just agreeing with everything he says, they need a proper confrontation.
I think Stede just wouldn't kill a woman or fight her, and it would have looked bad.
But God I do hope that somehow in the last episode they both wake up to themselves and reconcile in some way.
Good Omens is still my favourite, I think it's just the sweetness for me.. and the setting.

The parallel is there. Stede saw Ed stop being Blackbeard and left him. Ed sees Stede stop being a gentleman and left him.
The difference is that Stede left because he THOUGHT he was ruining Ed's life - after doing the same to his wife and kids. He was guilty and thinking his attempt at happiness caused everyone to suffer, so he gave up and went back to the life assigned to him by society. Ed's motivations for leaving don't seem to be about anyone but himself - or a least they didn't give any screen time to explain better.
They had a great set up for some angst with Ned Lowe saying that Ed only likes Stede because he's not a real pirate. But with only one episode left, I wonder if they'll ever mention it again or if it will be just another afterthought within a heavy action finale.

I hope they don't kill Izzy either. I hate when characters are truly happy, writers go and screw that up and kill them off. So I really hope that they don't use that tired trope and let Izzy continue to thrive.
I feel for Ed. I feel like he still feels unlovable and that Stede coming along is too good to be true. I hope he can get it through his head that Stede loves him no matter what. Like Izzy said, they do balance each other out but Ed needs to wake the eff up and go get his man back.

With the parallels between season 1 and season 2 it makes sense that ep 8 would be Ed's self discovery episode.
With your comment about Izzie being captain I was thinking the same thing and again that would be another parallel. He was captain temporarily in season 1 and the crew hated him, season 2...veeeeeery different story.
I just need Ed and Stede together by the end and not separate. Whether they'll be a couple...I don't know. A girl can hope.

I'm just not sure though as no matter how much I'd LOVE it, what would Season 3 be if Ed and Stede were in a happy, stable, committed relationship? As I'm not sure Ed will ever want to be a Pirate again, so if they got to be together, they wouldn't be staying on The Revenge.

I hate this but here we go...possible Izzy death scenario (season 1 would have been a completely different attitude to this man's death) - also links in with Shelma's self sacrifice comment.
Massive sword fight against the Brits and Izzy jumps in front of/takes a sword to the gut maybe, for Stede.
It'd make a "good" parallel to Season 1 where IZZY tried to kill Stede with a sword. Izzy may well see Stede as a friend now and respects him (sort of) as a Captain.
Also even after all the physical abuse and emotionally manipulation of Blackbeard Izzy still loves him and he knows Ed would be devastated if he lost Stede.
Yes I AM going under the premise that Ed and Stede reunite (platonically or otherwise) in episode 8.
Can't believe I'm saying these words but, I don't want Izzy to die.

So, from the trailer and teaser, the scenes we haven't seen are those fighting the navy in the jungle and on the beach and ed emerging in leathers from the ocean. So big battle and ed fishing up his leathers to come to the rescue.

The paper-azzy joke got me so good, I wasn't prepared for it at all, but it was overshadowed by everything else that happened 😅
