I watch this video almost everyday, its awesome, perfect combination with the musik and the story behind it! I cannot wait to jump on a windsurfboard again this summer!
I normally don't like the use of this song for these types of videos, but I thought the tone of it went really well with the footage :) You can't see me right now, but I have two thumbs up
This Video has inspired me to start windsurfing, did my first waterstart on my last session, can't wait to hit the waves! Thanks very much excellent video(song works perfectly with it to)
Great innovative camera mount, great sailing and beauty location. Thanks very much for putting this out there for the general public to enjoy. The song bashers need to chill out, maybe not my no1 choice, but it is actually worked in pretty cleverly at the start of the vid.
great video jump in the pool and your back in th waves, i especially like the headsaving clutch of the hands in the spin cycle at 1:13. been there done that..alot.
This sport has driven me insane...I'm totally addicted to it. I live every day waiting for the next day that I can go windsurfing. If I see the trees moving in the wind, I start acting weird, like I have a urge to see what the wind is like and if it's good I HAVE to rush to the spot and get going. I think i have a windsurfing problem...am I the only one?
Thanks everyone for the positive feedback! The video was made with many different setups that continue to evolve. My system starts with bolting an aluminum plate to your harness. In some of the clips from earlier sessions(before it was painted) it’s more visible. For the pole, old boom sections can work well, but the mount to the plate must be secure. Plastic camera mounts tend to break so metal mounts were made. Lots of trial & error, but it’s always cool to see how it comes out. Aloha,Bob
Awesome video man! Hope to get to hawaii someday, for now it's the murky waters of the north sea for me. Just starting with stuff like loops and airjibes, so it's awesome to see you do all those, pretty good for the motivation! keep em coming ;P
Very cool perspective! I've been experimenting with different angles too. I have this gunk used for electrical stuff. It temporarily sticks to anything. With that, I'm able to get a bunch of different angles. Here's an example:
Great vid. Question on your wavesailing technique. I notice you don't move your hands on the boom, though many say back hand back and oversheet on the bottom turn, then move it forward to open up the rig on the top turn. Any particular reason you don't do this here? Wind strength or direction, perhaps? Or was this typical DH conditions?
The video was made last summer using a homemade mount that I put together to play around with with different angles. Basicly a plate mounted to your harness with old boom pieces attached to the plate for the post. In the video there are actually multiple setups with different post curves that had evolved over time. Aloha, Bob
How lucky we all are to have windsurfing in our lives. I’m just one of a bunch over here on Oahu that love the sport and keep the stoke going. It's also really cool that we have a new crop of kids ripping in the lineup - the next generation. Thanks for the comment, it makes me want to get on the water! Mahalo, Bob
For sideshore wave sailing, Diamond Head would be the best place. But it’s important that you are comfortable with waterstarts & self rescue, the current on the outside can move quickly. Be sure to keep a safe distance from any surfers. Aloha, Bob
Thanks for the comment. I made this setup by bolting a metal plate through my harness and then experimenting with different lengths & bends of tubing. I think there is a similar pre assembled products out now that you can purchase if you search online. (-:
Thanks for the great feedback! When I made the video I was trying many different lengths to see what worked best but on most of the footage the camera is between about 30 to 35 inches from the harness. Aloha, Bob
+Sam's Playground Thanks, I had to make a few custom mounts for camera angles & strength. At the time when I made the video, GoPro mount accessories were somewhat limited. There was a bit of experimenting, lots of trial & error.
For myself it would depend on the conditions & the situation. I think there are times that reaching back can really help off the bottom turn & times that releasing off the top turn are absolutely necessary, like if overpowered or when it’s really onshore. This spot has a more of a side/offshore wind than DH’s typical side/side-onshore so I don’t like to move my hands around too much. I feel it gives me more control over the power of the sail But this is just personal preference. Aloha, Bob
Actually I used to do that more often in the past & at some point I tapered off on it & started to do what felt natural to me. Just personal preference. On an open face top turn with a complete redirection it really does help. This wave is just a few miles from Diamond Head, the majority of the waves here race down the line pretty fast making most of the turns more of a projection than a cutback so it usually helps to keep the power on. But thanks for the tip, & for watching, Aloha
Great perspective. I'd buy the set up if you ever produced a few (I'm crap at trying to make my own camera mounts..) Music on vid was poison tho... had to mute!
Actually you aren't the first to ask, there are a few discriptions for you in earlier replies. You will need to play around with angles untill you find what you are looking for. Lots of trial & error but have fun with it! You never know what will come out. Aloha, Bob
ollie stearn Hey Ollie, thanks for watching my video. The board I was riding is a Quatro 85L production LS quad. I think it was the 2010 model. Aloha, Bob
This wave is just a few miles from Diamond Head, it’s one of just a couple spots on the south shore we sail that are all in the same general area. If you come over to sail it‘s not hard to find. I think all Ezzy sails are great for both planeing & control. What’s best for you may depend on what type of sailing you are doing most often. Since I have only used their wave sails. You can get a much better answer than I can provide directly from the source email: david@ezzy.com

best windsurf go-pro setup i've seen
Thank you for the positive feedback. There were two sails used in the video, a 4.7 & a 5.0. The board is a 85L quad.

Beautifull footage and conditions.. Pretty jealous over here :)
this is unreal!!! mate well done! how did you get the gopro on the harness, explain please!
Love it. How did you secure the camera boom to the harness?
Great job... nice video. Keep going !
Great idea!! How did you mount the boom sections to the "back plate"?
Great video! Tiny little boards! I'm learning and I've got a couple of old 12 foot planks! You have to start somewhere...
great vid! nice n clean style
I love it Bob!
really nice work... thank you for the vid.
Great video man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PS; I love the choice of song and the editing to go with it!

best gopro film so far--could you tell me what option in camera you use (full hd?)-------thx
Great video !
How much liters is the board ?
I hesitate to buy the 75 one but I don't know if it is the good volume for me (55kg) in 10-40 knots.
Tthis is the one of the best action windsurfing video with EZZY Sails !
amazing video sick board :D
Just another day in the life of Bob Bohn. That guy knows how to live. The glue that holds the Oahu windsurfing scene together.
How lucky we all are to have windsurfing in our lives. I’m just one of a bunch over here on Oahu that love the sport and keep the stoke going. try to put ur back hand forward while the cutback you'll get way more power. Sick video though, were is this?

Ветрозависимым привет! Красиво катать не запретишь.
Nice video. What sail and board volume ?
I'm coming to Hawaii for a holiday and I would love to get into wave sailing. Where is a good place to learn?
Try using this brilliant GoPro installation on a kite surfer, and it'll all end up in a tangled mess
hello! grat video ! i was wondering how did you build the harness mount or where did you buy it?
thanks for the great vid
Thanks for the comment. I made this setup by bolting a metal plate through my harness and then experimenting with different lengths & bends of tubing. I think there is a similar pre assembled products out now that you can purchase if you search online. (-:
where is this place? and which line of ezzy sails do you think are the best for plaining and control?
Awesome movie! this is my favourite on youtube!
Could you tell me how long the pole is?
Thanks for the great feedback! When I made the video I was trying many different lengths to see what worked best but on most of the footage the camera is between about 30 to 35 inches from the harness.
Aloha,
Bob
great video
video looked stable. good job. no gimbal? just go pro on a pole bolted to harness?
+Sam's Playground
Thanks, I had to make a few custom mounts for camera angles & strength. At the time when I made the video, GoPro mount accessories were somewhat limited. There was a bit of experimenting, lots of trial & error.
