ये आवाज़ और साज, ला ज़वाब है, इस गजल में यदि काम वासना की नजर से नहीं देख कर, विशुद्ध प्रेम के भाव से सुने तो परमेश्वर के प्रेम की अनुभूति होती है, परमेश्वर का सानिध्य मिल जाए तो ही ये जमी चांद सी लगती है नहीं तो गर्मी की तेज धूप में जलने जैसी जिंदगी है, संगीतकार, गीतकार को अनेकानेक धन्यवाद्

This song is perhaps the most beautifully picturized in history of Hindi cinema..beautiful poem, lovely composition, sung in silken voice, and Rekha and Farukh make the visual poem complete..after seeing this we know why Rekha is considered timeless beauty of indian cinema...Muzaffar Ali deserves standing ovation for this masterpiece..fantastic !!

Now I live in New York, and not a day passes without me thinking how fortunate I am to have been born into the ancient and incredible Indic culture that gifted the world with the uniquely expressive Urdu language, which could have been born only in India, the landmass that also produced the sublime philosophy that is the Upanishads.

What a Song . Kudos goes to Shahrayar, Khayyam and to Talat Aziz. I wonder why Talat Aziz did not get much Scope to Sing in Films, just like Anwar.

Yes, this ghazal is a perfect blend in terms of lyrics, music & singer & it's nice to know that you met Talat Aziz & listened to his renditions. It's also nice that he belong to your hometown. He was supposed to be launched as a hero in Mahesh Bhatt's `Dhun'(1992), but the film never saw the light of the day but as a ghazal singer he's surely excelled & is the best we have.

I don't know how many times I listened to it.
The Amar score was actually by the great maestro Naushad, but Khayyam was always superb, indeed. Shola Aur Shabnam, Lala Rukh, and Muhabbat Isko Kehte Hain have some of the sweetest music ever,all by Khayyam. His Umrao Jaan score was doubtlessly his all-time best work. You are right about the movie. It is a treasure of inestimable value.

Most romantic song of my life. I have heard this when I was a kid and my elder brothers use to listen the cassette of this Umrao Jaan. Somehow it stayed in my subconscious and it still exists. I always wanted to date Mr Farukh that time. Such a big fan of ma'am Rekha and Mr Farukh.
