- The HP ProBook 4520s is a fantastic laptop to buy if you are on a budget but want to have a quality computer. The computer is powered by a i3 380m dual core cpu along with a 320GB (7200 rpm) hard drive. The graphics is an Intel HD 3000, which is adequate for computing, videos, and non-demanding graphics gaming. For the price and quality, this is a great buy for those looking to purchase a new laptop for under $500.
I have this probook for almost 4 years and it works GREAT!!!

Got a used one of this in April last year and apparently it's still working lololol in fact I'm commenting using it right now. Just a couple of problems like sudden shutdowns due to overheating and freezing but I managed to do something about it software-wise like setting the max processor power to 90% for both on battery and on AC, and increasing the page file size to what Windows recommended. No more overheating and less lagging overall!

It's 2018 and I still using my HP probook 4520s! I cause severe damage eg broke the screen panel, broke the keyboard but still standing unharmed!!!
This laptop still works like it's new for me
I got HP Probook 4525S for free from my friend some time ago. He wanted to throw it away, so I took it and fixed it. Motherboard on that thing was dead, so I found one for cheap on ebay (around 40$), I installed it few days ago, and it runs solid for it's age I must say. It will serve me well I think, since I won't be using it for gaming (I have pretty solid PC for that), just some internet browsing and similar stuff.
Wow that's some good work. I haven't tried to swap out a laptops Mobo before. Good job!
JNJSEZ Yeah, thanks. It was also first time for me. I usually fix PC's and similar stuff, but I went into this without expecting too much. But yeah, I got it working without too many problems on the way.

@jnjsez, Evening I've had my 4520s for a few months now for IT Training, but I am having some issues. I'm running Win 7 Pro x64 SP1, i5 CPU M 460@2.53 GHz, 2534 Mhz, 2 Core(s) with 4 Logical Processor(s), 4 GB RAM.
However, I've been having issues with performance and serious lag and now my Windows Update keeps failing. I've tried every troubleshooting step from every forum i can get my hands on. Even restarted from the factory settings twice! Any suggestions?

The full click trackpad is kind of what I have seen in a Macbook.
@DjGodie The extra ram will allow your computer to handle multiple programs to run better, you;ll notice the computer run smoother and faster. The mouse pad can feel awkward. Even if you have a good touch pad, I would still suggest getting a usb mouse, preferably wireless. All in all, I still think this is a great laptop, its fast and gets the job done, and looks very nice. I think you'll like it :)
mine leptop is 10 years old keyboard and battery stopped working and another things working good.
This is the most disastrous laptop HP ever made, no cooling system what so ever. Mine melted like Camembert cheese on a toaster.
if you look closer on the left side above the USB port and the SATA you can see a plastic button which jumps out if you press it. anyone to know what that is? Ididn`t managed to find on reviews so far..
With this laptop I played skyrim at extra settings. Also Crysis.. This is really god laptop for gaming also.

@tcoleman701 Sounds like a virus issue or some sort. My suggestion is call HP and order the recovery disks. Then using disk manager delete the recovery partition, and then combine with the main hard rive. Using the recovery disks format the hard drive. Install a good internet security including antivirus (e.g., kaspersky or norton). Then update windows and then copy whatever files you need from your backup. That would be my approach. Doesn't sound like faulty hardware.
@jnjsez Thanks for the info man! yes it is the i3 380m, is it worth it for $290?? What does the 4gb Ram do? I havent received it yet so i dont know how it is, and ive been doing my research about this computer and it seems that everyone has a problem with their mouse! So yeah, im kind of thinking I wont like it.

IS IT BRIGHT enough to watch movies/anime? and can it handle 1080p (BD rip as well)??
@SteamAlchemist Yes, it is bright enough. Not the brightest screen but that's a good thing. Colors look natural and not saturated. I think BD rips should play since its a modern laptop, but the resolution is only as good as the screen's resolution.
hello, great review man. I just bought this same computer online for $290 but its used and its barely getting shipped. Can you tell me if its a good buy i made? Ive been watching all reviews and all say this computer contains a 340-360 hard drive and mine only has a 220 hard drive, why is that? Dont really know much about all this sorry for my ignorance... so can you please answer my questions as soon as possible? thanks.

don't know, just an old post... it is possible, but for 32-bit W7 max supported RAM is 3gigs, while on the 64-bit max is supported 8gigs on that laptop...

Had this and also an Pavilion unit with dedicated graphics card. Both had trouble, at first Pavilion with it´s graphics card when it was less than a year old. Then it was Probook that blue screened because of motherboard fault. It was used very rarely and had no usage markings and HP REFUSED to repair it under warranty because they claimed I had dropped it and it had mechanical damage and that I was making fraudulent claims, but didn´t show any review papers or photos of the device! Very rude customer rep and no answer from regional office too! HP - never again! Only their printers are of adequate quality, but not gonna buy anything from them again for their attitude!

Not having boot manager is bad news. Sorry for late reply. May have to clean install after trying to recover files. Unless you can recreate the boot manager and put it on the hard drive where it original was, which can be tricky.

@DjGodie The hard drive for the laptop I reviewed is a 320gb (7200rpm). But for $290 thats a good deal! But if you're getting the i3-380m, its a good laptop. But I would strongly recommend upgrade the Ram to 4gb if you know how to do it (quite simple). Simply put, if you can put an extra $100-$200, get something better because newegg has good deals sometimes. Let me know if you have any other questions :)
btw, my mom has a 64 bit laptop with 2GB!!!! How is that even possible?

This really is a terrible terrible laptop. This video tries to be too polite. The touch pad isn't just hard to use, it is complete and utter crap. It is not at all usable. The laptop is also inexplicably slow given its specifications (I had the i5 version).

I have HP probook 4520s with core i 3 processor and have upgraded the RAM to 8 GB..
windows 7 32 bit recognize 3 GB Ram so I want to install win 7 64 bit...but
when i install the windows7 64bit it copies all the file and after a quick restart it freezes on the "starting windows" screen..
help :(

the worst laptop i ever had. it's overheating, screen hinges are cracking,screen changing colors, camera stop working, i've change hdd. proper name should be HP 4520so rubbish
