Stig Anderson had nothing to do with their musical direction. He had the right contacts abroad with various publishers and so on, which was a huge help, but he left the music to Björn and Benny. It was they who realized that they had to develop as song writers and write more contemporary pop music. He had nothing to do with that what so ever.

Further Bjorn and Benny both worked for him at his company serving an apprenticeship so to speak and honed Benny Anderson's incredible talent in what was required for international stardom, and it wasn't singing crap like this video. Somewhere in ABBA' S journey Stig Anderson would have mapped out what was required and that was the two beautiful girls with magnificent soprano voices, and while there are plenty of voices out there, there aren't too many with the stunning beauty of Agnetha and Frida. In many ways I think the whole ABBA journey was a well scripted reality show played out over 8 years, i think at some stage before we knew them as ABBA maybe as far back as when they were individuals, Stig would have got them together and explained his plan in great detail for world conquest and to fame and fortune, and that would have been irresistible to four ultra talented musicians the four of them child prodigies. Whether their marriages were contrived or natural one thing is certain with the workload they were going to be exposed to it would have been impossible if the four of them were in separate relationships. Further to that assuming the marriages were contrived as of convenience Stig may have reminded them that even if the group stayed together for 10 years they would still be young being in their 30s. As we know they lasted 8 years the girls went their own way both totally worn out,the boys by the late seventies were looking in another direction and that was musical theatre creating two magnificent musicals in Chess and Kristina not to mention Benny's orchestra that has been going for decades. Another thing Stig would have been very aware of is America's attempt to take some of the Beatles domination of the charts by creating the Monkees 4 highly talented kids brought together for that purpose and they were very good and heavily promoted, they carried that stigma for as long as they were around, Stig wouldn't have wanted that. What I have written here is in no way to diminish your love for the group as your feelings are mine without doubt the greatest group in the history of popular music and for much of that time had to endure the meme " it's not cool go like ABBA " I wonder where that came from ? I think I can tell you, what country afforded them one song that topped the charts ? .
Your global standpoint is what's vile. What a horror that these values are now considered to be so worthless or irrelevant. No wonder humanity is on the brink of extinction.
