  • Hello, everyone!
This documentary depicts "the Bihu festival of Assam" and how it is celebrated. Though we have three Bihu celebrations in our state of Assam, I have only displayed the Spring Bihu, also known as "Rongali Bihu," which is a three-day event held on April 13th and 14th. The first day is known as Goru Bihu, and the second as Manuh Bihu.
Goru Bihu - Goru Bihu, or the first day of Rongali Bihu, is dedicated to cattle. Cattle are bathed, garlanded, and worshipped on this day to express thanks for their contributions to agriculture and farming. Farmers express their appreciation for their cattle, which play an important role in their livelihood.
Manuh Bihu - "Manuh" means "human" in Assamese, so "Manuh Bihu" essentially translates to "Human Bihu." This term emphasizes the human aspect of the festival, highlighting its significance to the people of Assam and the cultural practices associated with it. During Rongali Bihu, people engage in various activities such as singing Bihu songs, performing traditional dances like the Bihu dance, exchanging sweets and gifts, and participating in community feasts. It's a time of joy, celebration, and renewal as people welcome the Assamese New Year with enthusiasm and hope for prosperity in the coming year.
