Very nice run, i cant believe that sub 4:30 could be possible. The routing here was very unique, making sure you get every possible pickup for the spears on the way there was very smart. I have been avoiding running grounded bc i knew there was no chance i could make a better strat than you, ima aim for sub 5:30 later. The fight was also very clean, cant believe you were able to get its AI to not shit itself AND not choke at the same time well done. A lot of that parkour hurt my brain, it seems so perfect I wouldn't believe if someone told me you were a pixel off TAS level positioning. GGS

I was thinking that the route there should be the most direct and just focus on grabbing what materials I can on the way for just over 10 spears so I can have two volleys and some leftover in case they fly off randomly. Running faster than swimming too so wanted minimal time in the water and I probably did about 15-20 runs so was able to learn the swimming route pretty good, maxing swimming speed over distance with the jumping isn't something I've really done before. This can be faster so I'm keen to see someone beat this so I have to run it again! Tried thistles and spears were better but here's some of the routes I plotted beforehand imgur.com/a/H99UDxk

Was about to say don’t think a run like this is possible now that widow is buffed. Sped up 5 hit combo is physically impossible to parry all 5 hits which will kill you early game

Thanks! Was pretty happy with this run despite the spider standing still and missing the last spear. Did a few woah runs earlier and my best time landing on the top rock of the first parkour up the hedge lab wall was 2:01 so 5 seconds faster there (and I think it can still be faster); lost 8-9 seconds to the spider standing still for literally no reason after aggoring it; I think it's unnecessary making it jump to the smaller rock first so that could save another ~5 seconds; could start attacking it sooner saving another 5+ and I missed two spears costing yet another 5 seconds. So that means sub 4:10 is possible but screw going for that until someone beats this!
Trying to figure out how to beat a black widow with t3 gear and weapons and then I see you do this. You are on another level. Worth a subscription for sure. I would like to see a speed run on Xbox though. Seems like PC is a lot easier with hot keys.
I was thinking of trying some controller runs at some point cause I haven't played on Xbox in over a year now. Could get a game pass deal and actually try it on Xbox too though. I much prefer mkb yeah and easier hotkeys is one of the reasons. I'm assuming Grounded is 60fps on Series X so I'd only have an advantage over the Xbone, the load times are just quality of life. External SSD on Xbone might not be too bad on that front though. Thanks for the comment!

I have been trying to kill one for a literal hour reloading a save and she just webs me which spawns a baby, eats it and gets the hp regen and 50% increase to attack speed. I can parry her but she heals faster then I can deal damage and whenever I am webbed I am unable to parry at all. So she gets a free hit/combo on me.

Damn... Me trying to block an normal ant - - FAIL. And this guy does the parry Master skill (10 perfect blocks in a row) on a black widow without armor. I am gaming since 1993 and this is impressive!
I practiced against a wolf during early access first, just set my spawn nearby, aggroed a wolf then just tried to parry until I died. Rinse and repeat until I could parry like 75%. That improved over time to 99%+ and because the widow is just a sped up wolf it was an easy transition. The practice strat nowadays is to save your game, make it a custom game and turn player damage off as they changed it so you can now parry even when player damage is turned off. Practice for as long as you want then just load the save you made which will reenable achievements.
a lil myth I've been thinking of: if you stagger the widow for long enough, it can't hit you throughout the entire fight(requires Chopper and Coup de Grass), this also applies to every bug

I found that route up the wall due to laziness. Lol i didnt want to go around. I also didnt do it at the beginning of the game either. Ive been finding all kinds of routes with the grass. Great work. I never would have fought that spider naked. 😅
Finding shortcuts like that is fun! I have decent spots for most places along the wall but if you wanna post any clips of your routes I'm always keen to see more! Sometimes I prefer the more consistent route over the faster route

They didn't change or remove any of the widow's attacks, they just gave it one extra ability to spawn and eat a widowling which gives them health regen and increased attack speed. Definitely way harder now but should actually be doable with a cheeky strat, just gotta make it spit the widowlings off the rock so it can't eat them to get the buffs!

Bought grounded, couldn't play this awesome game. My head starts aching and I feel like throwing up within 10 minutes. I have played 8K+ hours of FPS games in case you are wondering if I am new to FPS.
That sucks! You checked in the settings for motion blur, depth of field etc and turned all that off/down? Can also play in third person if you don't mind that and there's a key to switch between first and third while playing so if it's just combat that messes with you for example you can quickly switch if a spider runs up on you or whatever. Thankfully never had to deal with that myself so don't know what else to suggest! Other than maybe joining the official discord and asking in there if anyone else has experience similar and how they dealt with it?

Hmmm that shouldn't be happening! Blocking/parrying with a shield and parrying with a weapon should block all poison damage. Are you sure you're not taking a tiny bit of damage when you get poisoned? Maybe your armour is so good the attack doesn't do much damage. If you could show me a clip it would be easier to help. Maybe post in the discord too for help
I've done hundreds of wolf spider speedruns so just had to up the tempo as the attacks are the same, aside from the 3 attack combo they got from the orbs. So practice, basically!
This was before Black Widow got buffed. With enough time you will learn how to parry. Shields are really good because you dont need to perfect parry to block.
Originally I set up a lean-to by a sleeping wolf and practiced parrying, dying over and over until I got it somewhat down. Then they changed the player damage custom setting to allow you to parry so just save game, convert to custom, disable player damage, practice, reload save to reenable achievements. These days there's probably a good playgrounds mode out there for spawning and despawning each specific creature with just a button so you can quickly practice against whatever you want

There's not much to perfect blocking, "simply" press block right before an attack is about to hit you. You don't have to tap and release to perfect block, you can press and hold block as well just as long as you started pressing block right before the attack lands. To get good at perfect blocking, go into custom game, turn off player damage, hunger/thirst and equipment durability and just sit there and practice against whichever creature you want to get better against. There's probably a good practice playgrounds map someone has made, could search online or ask in the official discord or something

Didn't even know there was a perfect block mod! So no, I didn't use that. Grounded parry window is already so generous I've never felt I needed a parry mod anyway. Only thing I've ever edited in this game is GameUserSettings.ini and Engine.ini for better control over graphics settings and to remove depth of field.
All the skill and dedication is incredible, like I see improvements EVERYWHERE

I am am xbox speedrunner, my pb for black widow is 5:47, pc does not necessarily have an advantage for this category.

Nah I think I didn't try again with that strat because I usually like to wait for someone to beat my time before doing a run again, it just so happened someone else used the spear strat to do it!

I was like how but I see now the widow used to have the wolf spiders attack patterns. There is no way this could be done with the new widow.
They didn't change or remove any of the widow's attacks, they just gave it one extra ability to spawn and eat a widowling which gives them health regen and increased attack speed. Definitely way harder now but should actually be doable with a cheeky strat, just gotta make it spit the widowlings off the rock so it can't eat them to get the buffs!

Bought grounded, couldn't play this awesome game. My head starts aching and I feel like throwing up within 10 minutes. I have played 8K+ hours of FPS games in case you are wondering if I am new to FPS.
That sucks! You checked in the settings for motion blur, depth of field etc and turned all that off/down? Can also play in third person if you don't mind that and there's a key to switch between first and third while playing so if it's just combat that messes with you for example you can quickly switch if a spider runs up on you or whatever.
Thankfully never had to deal with that myself so don't know what else to suggest! Other than maybe joining the official discord and asking in there if anyone else has experience similar and how they dealt with it?

Hmmm that shouldn't be happening! Blocking/parrying with a shield and parrying with a weapon should block all poison damage. Are you sure you're not taking a tiny bit of damage when you get poisoned? Maybe your armour is so good the attack doesn't do much damage. If you could show me a clip it would be easier to help. Maybe post in the discord too for help
How do you parry so well! I can parry about 67% of attacks but your insane
I've done hundreds of wolf spider speedruns so just had to up the tempo as the attacks are the same, aside from the 3 attack combo they got from the orbs. So practice, basically!

This was before Black Widow got buffed. With enough time you will learn how to parry. Shields are really good because you dont need to perfect parry to block.
Originally I set up a lean-to by a sleeping wolf and practiced parrying, dying over and over until I got it somewhat down. Then they changed the player damage custom setting to allow you to parry so just save game, convert to custom, disable player damage, practice, reload save to reenable achievements. These days there's probably a good playgrounds mode out there for spawning and despawning each specific creature with just a button so you can quickly practice against whatever you want
@@HolyCodzta ah, i see, they do say practice makes perfect, thanks for the insight and advice, i been playing alot of grounded recently, i would love to play with ppl, but this game weirdly doesnt have a match making kinda deal going on so you can play with ppl easily, instead i gotta find some obscure discord server to find someone to play with, which isnt ideal for me, at that point i just started soloing, and its been fun, but would be more fun with friends no lie
@@MaropSKi yeee, i been workin lil on my parrying, got it to max level now, and with a shield, it can get pretty easy to atleast get half parried, but i still kinda suck at it, but i just need practice

It looks like a auto blocking mod but it might be pure skill idk

There's not much to perfect blocking, "simply" press block right before an attack is about to hit you. You don't have to tap and release to perfect block, you can press and hold block as well just as long as you started pressing block right before the attack lands.
To get good at perfect blocking, go into custom game, turn off player damage, hunger/thirst and equipment durability and just sit there and practice against whichever creature you want to get better against. There's probably a good practice playgrounds map someone has made, could search online or ask in the official discord or something

That's not bad to be fair! No Mant runs, although that is obviously included in any% and Mant kill on any% runs is like 7 minutes faster than my dedicated Mant run so I might have to redo it at some point, can't be getting memed on for tooo long haha

Can't remember but before they buffed it for sure. Didn't have the ability to spawn and eat a widowling for the extra attack speed and heals when I ran this
wow, she didn't summon any mini black widows, she only does that if she's inside her hole?
This was before they added her ability to spawn widows and then eat them to power up, would be much tougher now for sure!

They got the same moveset as orb weavers right?? Like their max combo is 3 attacks in a row?? As opposed to wolfs having a 5-hit combo

They kinda have both! They're basically a sped up wolf with the orb's triple combo added and the wolf's jump removed

Didn't even know there was a perfect block mod! So no, I didn't use that. Grounded parry window is already so generous I've never felt I needed a parry mod anyway.
Only thing I've ever edited in this game is GameUserSettings.ini and Engine.ini for better control over graphics settings and to remove depth of field.
