I don't understand Sinhala since I'm Indian but I really appreciate the genius leadership of this man. People talk a lot about Border being a broad chested, bold captain but Ranatunga did it with a smaller, less fancied and untapped team. He took Sri Lanka from being just a competitor to being World champions and best cricketing team in the world from 1995-98. Fearless and ahead of his time, he shaped the careers of Sanath Jayasuriya, Muralidaran, Mahela, Roshan Mahanama, Chaminda Vaas etc.
Arjuna's impact on Sri Lankan cricket is incredible and inspiring. Respect! My favorite stories from the many above were 1. On how Sobers helped him early on in his Test career and 2. On the one with Aravinda de Silva and the Sony Walkman :)
What a leader. Every single word that he spoke is a lesson. I cried a few times listening to this interview as some of the stories I heard it for the first time. Every time he addresses former sports minister, he calls him Gamini Dissanayake Mahatthaya. This gives me goosebumps and it is enough for me to learn and picture how he respects others and Sri Lanka. There are so much Sri Lanka can gain from this legend and, unfortunately, we are so unlucky to take the advantages.

Yes...those days we had well educated and very intelligent people who loved the country from the bottom of their heart as politicians...hence our country was in a proper position compared to these days...but now days all of them are uneducated crooks and thugs who just talk to the gallery and deep inside are corrupted...their key weapon is racism and nationalism...they win elections by spreading hate within races and religion...very sad! Here is my two cents on Captain Cool. Undoubtedly, he's the bedrock of SL cricket. He wanted SL Cricket to be played under his supervision at all times; in other words he wanted to be the "God Father" and lay the upper hand on SLC as he was instrumental in drawing great amount of international attention from all over the world after winning the WC. It didn't go as planned. He believed he has all the rights in the world to take control of SLC any given day. Because, this gentleman knows what he's done to bring Cricket to where it was from. However,trying to be the sole proprietor of SLC was a bad move made by him and he went to war against corrupt giants of SLC as one man army. Not to mention, SL Cricket will always be in debt to him no matter what he brings to the SLC table.

Not only was the world fearful of its crazy roaring batting line up, their bowlers were equally if not that terrifying. Arjuna should be heading the Junior cricket in Sri Lanka. His cricket brain is tapped and was never sadly used by the cricket board . Its time theh utilised his smarts.
To be honest , this guy didn’t do much to win 96 WC. It was mainly by Jayasuriya and Aravinda who contributed 90%of the wins in that 96 WC series. In the finals, yes Arjuna and Gurusinghe made half centuries... but still , without Aravinda 100 , SL could not have lift the trophy. Also , without Aravinda’s 65 runs in the semifinals, SL couldn’t have reached Finals. Now , many others try to be highlighted and take credit to their accounts. But those two are the real heroes of 96WC win.
