If you are in a public place and there is a fire alarm, the door through which you entered may not be the best exit. Case in point: the 2003 Station nightclub fire in Rhode Island.

That incident was so so sad 😞 I remember when that happened. The pyrotechnics caused the fire, I’m also old enough to remember “Beverly Hills Supper Club” which killed a lot of people as well. If you’re not familiar with the incident here’s a link

Interesting; check out those ancient-looking Edwards dual-projector horns! (I can tell they are Edwards by the base, from the 1930s-40s, before Edwards redesigned the Adaptahorns in the early 1950s.)

Growing up in the 90s the schools I attended used those loud Autocall horns blasting the cadence marchtime signal (4🔈pulses, pause & repeat) during fire drills.

Same here! And despite being a 1990s kid/2000s teen, my public schools still had old fire alarm systems from the 1950s-1970s in use! (My first elementary school's old Simplex 4208 system began failing over eight years ago, so now they have mundane System Sensor SpectrAlert Advances that aren't as loud as the old Simplex horns they replaced, but still loud enough to badly startle you.)

I never had any old fire alarms in my schools (I was a 2000s kid) but still I hated those alarms. They are so loud for no dang reason other than 'to encourage you to get out'. I hated using the bathroom with those alarms in there. It was awful when the teacher would make you be quiet because then the fire alarm would be more jarring. The people who program them weren't thinking about us kids with autism, who especially hate loud noises

Electrically-operated fire alarm systems like that date back to at least the 1920s. They just had big relay-based control panels with AC output, bells or horns, and pull stations. No strobe lights, no smoke or heat detectors, no battery backup... times were different back then.

Oh, that film was REALLY scary and upsetting! I think it was even scarier than "Duck and Cover" and all the other nuclear war education films at the time (even though the threat of nuclear war was very real at that time, the probability of an elementary school burning down was, and unfortunately always will be, greater than a nuclear bomb destroying a city).

@@braininavatnow9197 , that is good that you know what to do ,most people would freeze not knowing what to do. I have a central fire alarm system in my house. it is an older "edwards" fire alarm panel, that is relay logic, coupled with" simplex" smoke/ heat detectors. all alarm points are illuminated, at the panel, so I know the location of the alarm drop. all alarm points are supervised, and will generate a trouble alarm if the smoke/ heat detectors are not communicating with the fire alarm panel( the hvac system is also interlocked with the fire alarm system ,and will shut down should there be a fire alarm). also I rewired my house in pipe, all the romex cable has been removed. all circuits are ground fault/ arc fault protected .all feeder circuits are fuse protected, including the main service .I am not interested in having any house fires to start with!!!.
