      I didn't even know him until know. Wow. That last section invoked so much inside me:
      Death is always a guy who comes into a bar at 2 o'çlock in the morning and says "Time, gentlemen, please". And you say "Oh please, one more drink, not yet". Because you haven't really had the feeling that you ever had it, that you ever got there.

      If you try to be happy, this means that you presume you are not happy now but you will be happy by trying, by putting faith in future. This point of view is doomed to fail. One can not try to be happy, just as one cannot try to be sad or angry. In order for someone to be happy, one, first of all, should not try to be happy. Then happiness may come.
      For me, happiness is absence of suffering. Suffering is the result of desiring. If one stops desiring, may happiness come.

    I've been hearing about "the moment" for years. Not in dogmatic religions, but in philosophies outside of such constructs. Having had the experience of being in the moment, I know how beneficial it is. On many levels. The most prominent of which is the feeling of peace. I'm glad I came across these videos of Alan Watts, because he has reminded me of the importance and benefits of being in the moment. This video in particular really hits home because he honestly portrays how the world raises and treats its children. Across many cultures. This is one of those videos I will replay as it is something I need to hear on a regular basis. Working full time, it's easy to get caught up in the need to make money, pay bills, and clean house. Thank you to all the channels that have uploaded the talks by Alan Watts. I really appreciate your efforts.

We start off at the programming centre (school) where all individuality and creativity is knocked out of us, you are programmed to play your part as a cog in the big wheel of work, paying your taxes, never being quiet satisfied, you must get that bigger house and car, be glued on the road of consumerism etc and always looking for the next thing in order to feel that you have finally arrived. Schools are a minature version of governments where we learn to vote, praise the football team, and be totally loyal to the school, all the while hating other schools. The same applies with religion. And if we play this game well, we become a team leader, leading other players ( our children ) to advance in the game so their children can continue playing this game forever. There's a drinking game i used to play at university where you play the game but do not know the rules. Each time you make a mistake you must drink. The game is to work out the motion that other players are doing which is set by the leader to stop them drinking .This is in essence how real life works. Anything important you must discover yourself and it takes years for most people, very few find out the rules as children or young adults. Bu the time you discover life is a game you could literally be about to die or have missed 50 years of life.

  • @Brian-oz8io
    @Brian-oz8io 11 месяцев назад +4

    Happiness is irrelevant. All that matters is material reality. If you work and grind to get the big promotion by 40, what matters is that you can provide for your family and help your friends, that you can stay healthy and afford medical care, that you have a measure of freedom, that you won’t starve and have good food, and that you can pursue your creative interests. You and your loved ones are better off than you were before, regardless of your feelings of happiness. Happiness is a drug that we endlessly pursue and it is pointless, it is a mirage.
    The value of achievement is in the achievement itself and the journey you took to get there, thus endless growth should be the objective. There should never be an end point where we want to stop and stagnate. The boats, cars, and houses are just distractions. Learn new skills, have new experiences, become more free and powerful, use your resources to make the world a better place. Advance humanity. That is all there is.

    • @blasiomuhinda
      @blasiomuhinda 10 месяцев назад

      Nothing wrong with a big promotion or whatever that is. The most important bit is what is there before us today. You can definitely put in the work, but there really is never a guarantee that you will even get to 40, let alone get that promotion. Life really isn't a straight line with definite checkpoints. Things change when we least expect it.

      @@blasiomuhinda that’s why it’s about the progress more than the goal itself. Even if you don’t reach the goal, the fact that you moved towards it and are better than you were yesterday is what’s really important.
