St. Vincent | Finding New Sounds in a Golden Era

- Опубликовано: 15 дек 2021
- Multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and producer St. Vincent looks to the sounds of 1970s New York for her 2022 GRAMMY-nominated album "Daddy's Home". Her updated Ernie Ball Music Man signature guitar draws upon that aesthetic as well-named "Goldie" after its vintage-inspired gold foil pickups and color palette. In this video, St. Vincent gives a solo performance of the track "...At the Holiday Party" from Capitol Records Studio A, and we spoke with her about building creative worlds, the magic of an iconic studio, and how collaboration pushes everyone to be their best.

I'm 63, been listening to her for about 10 years and she still amazes me. I've always been a prog fan and she somehow bridges the gap between that and everything else. Love her work!
Mentioning prog, she has admitted to liking Yes and when she made Daddy's Home one song that she drew on was Long Distance Runaround from their album "Fragile". I'm a big Yes fan as well and when you listen to Long Distance Runaround and then her stuff, it all make sense. She had also admitted to liking King Crimson.
Hard to overstate the level of great work she is doing.
Singer, instrumentalist, composer, stylist, guitar designer… she is cut from the same cloth as Prince and David Bowie.
Truly impressive human.
I'm primarily a guitar guy, so typically more of a metal, punk, hard rock, classic rock, industrial kind of guy, but I'm also a Prince fan, and of course Bowie. The words in your comment are almost exactly the thoughts I had when I said to myself, f*ck it. I got apple music, lets listen to the discography. I'm so glad I did.
Yup, she’s one of the greats.
You’re insane
same cloth as bowie. lol.
Ok let’s chill
I love her. And that's the coolest new guitar design in decades....
A true Rennaisance Woman. So multi-talented and all-round impressive human being!
Eh... One chord shape to rule them all.
@Adrian You're proof that most guitarists aren't real musicians and completely lack the ability to appreciate well-composed music.
@@xdoctorblindx just so you know this is the same person that has video called "Fuzz Fuckery" displaying her "skills" you should go look it up lmao
Oh St. Vincent, I get lost in all of your worlds.
There's so much I don't understand. Artists like this help me feel the way forward. So musical and literate. Thanks.
At the Holiday Party is iconiccc one of my favvvv songs this year 😭❤️
So, that big pink pedal in the top middle... That's the guts of a Peavey Decade practice amp put into a small box. It's the Queens Of The Stone Age sound, and it's called "Ten Years"
She did her research well! Her song has influences of Joni Mitchell along with the Velvets. She's a talented and intelligent artist.
@@HelloSpyMyLie A second listen and your questioning reply did not change my mind. If you can't hear the similar interval shifts and vibrato when she holds a vowel, that's fine. Not sure if I'm nuts, but I gots deez!
Meh, derivative at best. Her earlier work had some teeth, this is just…. Meh.
This guitar and the D'Angelico Bob Weir Bedford are my favorite finds of the past 2 years, lovely.
Love her.
Muchas gracias por este video!! ❤️
Fascinating.
How wonderful, I did not understand how you did not use singlecoils in your guitars until now, it is amazing that you have chosen the Goldfoild, many hits with your music, StVins...
Esta mujer es una icono del rock, está demás enunciar sus cualidades. Su aportación es tremenda..! 🤘
Ella es de lo mejores artistas del universo rock y pop qué escuche y yo escuche mucho.
Love you Annie and you beautiful Art ❤️
Queen
É sempre maravilhoso 🙌poder ver uma mulher tocando guitarra 🎸 com esta voz espetacular, melhor ainda.
That guitar shape has staying power - that's very hard to do
I wish they made a bigger size version. Every guitar looks small on me. This would look really bad on me. Like a kids guitar. I love the design of it. If it was a little bigger, I’d buy one.
It's a great guitar. I bought one for my daughter, but I think I play it more.
@@thecappy ooh which did u buy?
@@chocoprrrswwwwnn the Sterling model. Might have to check out this new gold foil model soon.
Completely agree!
I need that version of "…At the Holiday Party". 👀👀
I've the "Charmeuse Silk" and I love it! Magnifical instruments as fascinating as their creator - ST Vincent
Love her lots. Whoever she is today.
I love the Bowie influence on Daddy's Home. So good - and amazing live!
I love how unique and elegant the design of the guitar is… I would love to have the red one it looks stunning!
Love her so much.
Brilliant
Cool. Huge hype! ;)
This inspired me so much today.
When I hear people grouse that no one’s making good music these days (which probably every generation has said about the music of subsequent generations since the dawn of music), I immediately mention St. Vincent. There are plenty of other bands and musicians making great music too, and I list them as well, but Annie and her work are clear and convincing evidence that there is always great new music to make.
People that can't find new, good music these days are just lazy.
She is boring uninspired and plays the guitar at a beginner level at best.
@@entertainmentguys1 Troll's gotta troll.
@@regularnimnule9715 and the biz is full of untalented shills.Shills gonna shill ha ha ah ha
@@regularnimnule9715 i love his incredulity at her having a model and all because HE DECIDED she's no good.
hey dude... we don't know who he is... so. obviously she's doing something better than him. whatever that might be. it's easy to be a critic right? 🤣🤣
seems to be able to sing.
I'm not really a fan, but I've caught her live. she worked her a$$ off.
maybe ol ry there just doesn't have enough game to recognize game.
I'm sure she's capable of shredding a note or two having played thousands of hours of guitar....
everyone is an expert anymore....
🎄🎄NICE 🎄🎄☺...MERRY XMAS ♡ST. VINCENT♡
I love watching Annie's left hand. Jesus, she frets so smoothly.
just me out here praying they make a bass with that body style
❤️
🤘🏿🤘🏿🤘🏿very interesting
She’s the most gorgeous person!
Annie has such a Pleasant Talking Voice..
the Rest is Self Evidently Supreme
ola, bom trabalho!
I want a bass like that.
Thanks for showing her pedal board!
cool!
She is the greatest DIVA of all time
I clicked on this...I'm not a fan of her music but I do respect the place it comes from. Good talk here. I don't see myself revisiting her music anytime soon but when-cuz I will!- I'll have a different perspective. A better one.
And my GF's daughter LOVES the Linda Linda's!
Happy Solstice Annie.
St Vincent is awesome !
wE sO LoVe yoU,St. Vincent!!! is an understatement
She rocks
The extraordinary Laura Nyro tells you the beautiful and brutal truth of NYC on her peerless album New York Tendaberry (1969) and continued on her Christmas and the Beads of Sweat (1970). She makes the Velvets sound like lullaby music. Nyro influenced everyone, including Steely Dan.
Ya...I love the song Stone Soul Picnic 🙏🎶🍄
What a Beautiful love Version of the HOLIDAY PARTY!
Thank you once again Annie for making the incredible effort to share your soul with the world. All the trolls and naysayers make me feel so bad for there quality of life. Like do you not get enough love from your family or lifes ambitions that you have to take the time to put a stranger down for expressing themselves? Next time you wanna put someone down for there music why dont you take a look at yourself and tell me what you've done to contribute anything special or unique to this world. True music makers and lovers would never have the power to say anything negative when it comes to letting the world hear whats inside your head. Musicians should only encourage and promote positive vibes when it comes to our art. I get not likeing something, but thats all you have to do. Dont like it, move on, find something you do. Music is magic and if you dont have the heart to feel it then dont. Nobody needs to piss on creator's for doing what you so clearly have no talent to do yourselves.
Smart, pretty and super talented
I need a new album plz 😭😭
i come from punk and complete trash and gutter filth,
St Vincent is a gueen and makes some of the most vibrant music of the modern era, love what she brings to the music scene, super under rated
5:11"like Brru"
Just on the spot.
SO NICE
Did Jack give the exact same chord progression to both Lorde and St Vincent?
i 100% thought she was playing solar power haha
Yes
Uh huh. It also makes me think a bit of "Can't You See?" by The Marshall Tucker Band.
Need a full version of this song, Just St. Vincent and a guitar.
2 things in this world that will save us
Music and Comedy
Pretty sure she's just beginning to innovate her music and tools. Such vision.
The peak in rewinds when her pedalboard pops up💀
She is a really cool artist
✌ ❤ 🎶 🌎 👏
Annie Clark is almost too powerful! 🙌
Is there such a thing? 😉
this is a great person , i like it and i like joni mitchell
😊
Annie has such an ethereal voice.
This video reminded me to use the barre C voicing more.
There's something wonderful about music geeks ;)
An acoustic version of the new album would be cool. Kinda like she did the piano version of Maseduction.
I want her to be in my CAN-inspired band so bad!
St. Vincent is such an amazing songwriter.
daddys home is one of the best albums of all time
whammy bar up the whazooo!
Tone sounds “purple rainy”.
Prince definitely rocked that outfit too.
I keep saying the Down And Out Downtown Band should make a record by themselves!
The old Primal Scream - Loaded/George Michael - Freedom/ Lorde - Solar Power chord sequence.
Bingo!
what's this pink pedal "ten years" ...?
The personas she creates fascinate me. She is very good at it.
Can anyone help me identify that amp?
Annie Clarke is amazing…a great artist and guitar player……
beauty
Is it just me. Or every time I watch St Vincent she looks like she's just stepped off a David Lynch movie set or tv set....Twin Peaks ;)
That’s what drew me to this
Looks like a telefunken u-47. with leather.
Great commercial for her guitar. I’d love to check one out but I’m a little short $3k at the moment.
The Sterling versions are actually really great. I have one, for several yeast now, and it's quite wonderful.
how did you get through the times of complainng neighbors?
When I was growing up and getting into guitar music, there were very few women really playing it. I always wished more women would play because I just felt they would bring a new dimension to it and open out the emotional range of the instrument. St Vincent really embodies that for me. I think she’s just terrific.
Check out Bonnie Raitte
Vixen are great, all female hard rock. Or the band Fanny playing their song Special Care
Oh sure there were a few, like Jennifer Batten, but the situation is so much better now.
@@richardhunt809 Bonnie Raitt, Nancy Wison, Joan Jett, Lita Ford, Marnie Stern, Susan Tedeschi, Katherine Thomas, Orianthi, etc., etc....
Can anyone identify that pink pedal?
love the gold but cant afford lol!
I thought the guitar background is the solar power strums
I think she's singing better and better.
Yet her guitar playing.......
not that kinda record tho is it
please... ERNIE BALL,,, VINTAGE WHITE ST. VINCENT WITH GOLD HARDWARE AND PERLOID PLEASE
Long time ago, my father bought a Flying V Explorer and cut it a bit like that because he found it too bulky !
✌💚🤲🌍🌌
好几次差点儿买了这把MM……
2:15?
Can they make a left handed model. Left handed people matter!
Solar power?
Soolaaaaaaar powe.. oops sorry wrong song
this new look is called St. Hillary
