Hunslet Austerity 3193 comes to live at Northampton and Lamport Railway 8.3.23

8th March, A Hunslet Austerity Ironstone/War Department Steam Locomotive has been bought and paid for by the Northampton & Lamport railway. It was picked up from Bressingham a week pervious by mistake and sat at S.A Smiths (Locomotive haulage company) yard until yesterday. This locomotive came as a visitor to the railway in August 2021 and the owner was mighty impressed with how the Austerity was cared for. When the owner wanted to sell the loco. Northampton and Lamport had the first offer. This is the first locomotive the Railway collectively have bought loco in decades. Other locos where bought by individual members previously. The loco needs a little bit of work before she can be put into steam but it's very minor. Adam Giles (The Chairman & Locomotive owner) states that The No.4 Leslie and Hawthorn loco will need a boiler ticket and work will need to be done. Having Austerity at the railway will ensure the railway will have steam whilst the work to No.4 is carried out.

I love seeing those diesels thrashing but at the same time its sad to see. Not great for the environment is it.
