"We could take these rocker boxes apart to inspect, but where do you draw the line?" That's always the question when you start taking stuff apart. Where to draw the line. Once I dive into something, I usually end up doing more (or replacing more) than I probably need to...but being new to motorcycles I try to make it about learning and education. The guys on the forums like to say "if it aint broke don't fix it" which isn't a bad motto, but sometimes curiosity gets the best of me and I wanna take something apart to see how it works.
It's a great Sunday evening when you get to binge at least 5 videos with our favourite Classic Guru after learning of a new channel with all the mechanical content 😁
Another great video Dave, in contrast to a lot of the rubbish on here your videos are always a pleasure to watch !.. If possible, it would be great to see the handover of the RGS to the customer when it's finished..
I built a Triton in the late 90's. I picked up a 650 Thunderbird engine/gearbox that had been restored. Got it all together... oil, fuel and the great day to kick her into life.... She started ...of sorts...and did run okay but came the day when it didn't .... the problem was the Magneto . It had been superficially renovated to pass muster....I sent it off to a magneto specialist.(In Yorkshire I believe)) refitted, being extra fussy about the timing etc!.....it all paid off, the Bike would start as you demonstrated... A little tickle and she burst into life....remained a good starter..
Thanks Dave really enjoyable as usual. I have to say I spent a lot of time on the 72 Bonneville I've nearly finished restoring trying to get the the pushrod tubes, cushions, o rings etc right, ie all to fit together so the head would go down right, not being held off by the cushions but still enough pressure on them to seal, when the head was tightened down. I ended up buying a few different thicknesses of bottom cushions. Mine has the o ring inside the tube, the cushion and the wedding band at the bottom, plus of course the one at the top of the tube in the head.
Enjoying the video Dave thank you for explaining about the Magneto and what was wrong with it nice to see it start first kick its up to your high standard as usual.
Sods law. Spent 18 months looking for the right Dominator 99 between 1960 and 1963 period, but never found the right one, then a nice Royal Enfield Constellation Airflow turned up, so went for that instead, now this Dominator's available 🤣. Tar for the mag' info'. No doubt in time it will become useful.
Nice work. Usually the guys complaining about reliability or oil leaks on british bikes are the ones who think hammer and chisel are acceptable tools lol👍
I had the shellac in my K2F magneto on my G12 Matchless melt on a long run and then set when parked. Believe it or not was enough to snap the shaft. To solve the problem at the time I swapped it for a distributor and coil, but you can’t beat a good magneto.
Good morning I am in north wales can you tell me where I can get my t100t twin carbs sorted I have taken it to a bike shop but they have had a go but can’t sort them out they can’t get it to tick over properly I need a old school person to tune with ear
Watched the Magneto this time Dave and coming from a qualified electrician( industrial )and I have actually re done mine and you’ve done a great job of explaining the technical operation 😊 Could be wrong on this case but left hand entry on the mag… I think it could be push to advance and pull to retard 😊😊 Let me know Dave if I’m wrong on this one Thank you phil
Now model 99s slimline did not have magnetos fitted as standard they all coil ignition 99c stamped at rear of crankcase and the bike is none standard colour the standard colour was dove grey and blue as left the factory
Took the mag apart on my 16h,, took out the condenser and replaced with a Bright spark easy cap. Job sorted.

7:58 Wow, the ports in the Scott have dead square corners, that must have been hard on the rings.
Wow
You know your stuff.
The intersepter is a good bike I have a mk2 and throughly enjoy mine

I could say a lot, but I only need two words ( informative and brilliant ) oop's that's three 😊.
Hey Charlie you did mention the.year of the Bonneville when you first introduced it

Have you considered using what is called a 'Keeper' bar across the two magnets to retain magnetism ?

I had a Rocket Goldstar for 3 weeks, they guy I bought it from begged me to sell it back to him. Unfortunately I said yes!!!!
Luckily it's only the magneto, on a poor quality bike it's everything.
The saddle on the Triton does appear to be a boon for haemorrhoid sufferers!

I wanted to be a mechanic, failed at it
