wow man, my dad played the big bass drum back in the 60's when it was all male. I still have those year books. Good to watch this video, just thinking a few more years back and the old man was out there!
A minority opinion, I know, but I think the Super Bowl halftime show jumped a HUGE shark in the early 1990's. I love these old-school halftime shows from the game's early years. Kind of a pity that we only get the first part of this show here. I'd really like to see the whole thing if it's available, as I love Duke Ellington's music. If anyone knows of a video of the remainder of this show, could you please post the link?
I'm gonna disagree with the "present band doesn't excite ppl" comment. True, the present band is not THIS band, but then again whose band is actually the same? The whole blasting your brains out crap is a recent trend from the late 80s early 90s that has sadly spread through the entire SWAC. So scratch that argument. I think every swac band is boring nowadays, especially at halftime. I've never seen so many plain basic halftime shows in my life. I'll say this, at least Gsu maintains their style.
KJinTX I have to agree with you I watched SU and Famu halftime shows in the 90s and they were so much fun from the band members singing to the performances of the dancing dolls and etc but nowadays it’s just really boring I see why a lot of people don’t go to the games anymore I remember when halftime meant you don’t get up from your seat but you set back and enjoy the show
I agree with both of your comments. My Southern needs creativity as well. However I do feel a good band is one that drills the field. A dance routine is ok now and then but just dancing through the whole show like famu just doesn't excite me like drilling. I guess its a generation thing.
Yes, they are called MARCHING bands for a reason. They should do more marching. I've been binge watching high school and college band and they all follow the same format of marching and playing the first song, doing a song for the dance team to dance to, and some form of famu's fast march and closing it out with the band doing a dance routine.
