Her fast songs get everyone dancing, at her 4th concert in Boston at the Orpheum my friend and I got up and danced. Security guards told us to sit down. 🤣
Name another performer who has a catalog that is so rich and beautiful and ONLY performs and records her own compositions…….you can’t ….only Joan. So beautiful!
Can we cut the nostalgia and just comment on the brilliant performance right here in this video. Her singing, phrasing, musicianship, guitar playing in these three songs is a revelation.
i heard Love and Affection on a car radio and rushed out and bought the album way back in 1976 - one of the best LP's ever recorded - brilliant musician. Thanks Joan!
Joan is one of those musicians who created songs that just become a part of our souls forever. I've been listening to a few oldies these past few weeks during my long drives...what's old is all of the sudden new again, her music sending new shivers all over my body, again! Joan is a musician that never got the recognition she deserved here in the US, huge loss to music lovers.
I made the mistake of thinking Joan was just one thing and L&A represented her music, but in the past year I have been going through her back catalogue and although I admit the early tracks are what stick with me, she is still bringing out really strong albums. Her distinct voice and how she seems completely in the moment are a real wonder.
Amazing awesome seen her twice I n a small town called brecon in wales she is breathtaking to watch up close and the band what a pleasure that will stay with me and family to be part of love Joan
wow....just wow. Joan Armitrading was a big part of my childhood, as she was on the stereo all the time and I adore her. Down To Zero and Love and Affection are two of my all-time favourite songs (would love to have seen Like Fire performed too!), and I thank this channel for recognising Joan like this. she will always be a legend in my eyes...and she can rip on the guitar!
Introduction to J.A. was her appearance on Saturday Night Live in 1977. She was supporting her first album on a major label, A&M Records. Absolutely wonderful. There was nobody to compare her with.
Rediscovered Joan this past year. L&A is and always will be a timeless classic, I remember finding her as support act to Supertramp. A brilliant Brummie!
Wow that was w hat i think they would call Texas Tea in Texas,Yeh Black Gold acoustic guitar session n half here :p i read that Joan Armatrading started out in the clubs n pubs covering Bob dylan songs took thru the roof n the uk by storm when they aired All the way from America Yeh one of the rare treasures we had in the late 70s n early 80s n still going strong here ;)
Thanks for sharing! Takes my memory back to the early hours of the morning, when Joan dropped by the radio studio of LBC in London, talk station. Adrian Love was the presenter, & she did a few acoustic songs. I was on nights in a Heron Petrol station, as night manager. !974-75? Wonderful!
Love and affection. As a guitar player, you make this wonderful song look easy to play...but it isn't lol And who can sing it like you Joan? Unique, I'd better learn another song
I’m in tears right now. I love this woman’s music. The most under-rated female musician of all time. Really, she is the GOAT imo.
100% agreed. Her songs pierce the heart and then melt it all over the place.
One of the most underrated musicians of the past far more talented than the overproduced mediocre singer’s of today
She plays guitar and piano and composes great songs, inspiring the public to respect women. 💕💌

Fantastic, this music is etched into my youth and will follow me to my grave. Thank you for the most wonderful of gifts.

The more I hear J.A acoustic, the more i see what a great musician she is . She was great anyway, gets greater
After all these years, her music remains fresh, alive, moving and incredibly beautiful.
Love & Affection remains one of my all time fave tunes. I was 15 when I first heard it. I am 61 now. Beautiful and thought provoking song.
me too. I heard this in 1980 as the first ever Joan song and still feel the amazement
Good to hear Joan's music after years. I had her early albums, which I loved, then she disappeared from my consciousness. Now she's back!
She is my absolute favorite. The BEST.
i heard Love and Affection on a car radio and rushed out and bought the album way back in 1976 - one of the best LP's ever recorded - brilliant musician. Thanks Joan!
Same for me Jim Healey, except I heard it on the kitchen radio. I agree with everything you've said. A classic. Thanks Joan from me too.
Bless bless Bless this dear lady.xxx
That's exactly what I did!
So true . It was amazing . Still is.

'Love and effection' got me misty eyed. My first love introduced me to that beautiful song. ♥
it's so strange, how time changes - yesterday one of the greatest voices, today almost forgotten (but still touching for some) ..
Love Joan Armatrading, i listen to all her albums, her and Tracy Chapman. They make beautiful music 🎶 ❤❤❤❤
Still brilliant after all these years.

Hardly a better feeling than seeing Joan do "love and Affection" again after all these years!

Great memories of a squat in Arnhem 1979. Great voice still. She went to my school, Brookfields Birmingham.

Magnificent
ovation were all the go in the 70s haven't seen anyone play them in ages. think Cat Stevens used to play one back then too
One dislike....really! What the hell is wrong with that person?
I guess if Joan Armatrading hadn't released a song, then there'd definitely be no Tracy Chapman.
♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Nice playing.Don't undderstand the 3 dislikes either.
drop the pilot
Woman power !
Anybody know what way her guitar is tuned? Can't get my head around it.
tuned down a whole step i.e. D,G,C,F,A,D.
💞💞💞💞💞🙌🙌🙌💞💞💞💞💞💞
Hendrix’d out there
She reminds me a bit of Tracey Chapman.
Tracey Chapman reminds me of Joan Armatrading
Can anyone tell me what tuning is used on Steppin Out please?
Low DGCFA High D , that is what it sounds like to me.
Thank you very much
you're welcome :-)
