So for Seth (or anyone else) just incase he really doesnt know, the purpose of higher octane gas is to minimize the possibility of engine knock especially in engines with forced induction (turbos or superchargers).
Engine knock is essentially the pre ignition of the fuel in the cylinders, which leads to increased pressure and heat and can blow ur engine.
