I was astounded by the overall quality of this gala. It was truly breathtaking. 2 surprises I had were: the audience's outlandish reaction to a very pedestrian Nessun Dorma by Licitra and the outstanding, captivating masterclass given by Vessalina Kassarova, who stunned me with her perfection, even on this august occasion. A very memorable concert. Thanks so much!
I am very happy to see Michele Crider singing. I help her at Madame Butterfly at the University of Iowa about 30 years ago. Since I am Japanese I know about tea ceremony and other Japanese things. I knew Michele moved Switzerland but I didn’t hear anything up to today. I hope she will sing at Met.
Switch to Chrome says the advert enticingly slammed in half way through an Aria to ensure you really want that product .... Owned by the channel that did that
This brings back so many memories. I have been listening to remind myself of what the singer sounded like in person. Going through this list, the only ones I have not heard live are Kirschlager, Kasarova, Banse and Castronovo. I guess there’s still time for me to see Castronovo.
SUBLIM...interpretació, GENIAL, amb aquestes veus tan fabulosas XAPÓ. NO ENS CALEN GUERRAS. VISCA LA PAU. Desde ST FELIU DE LLOBREGAT. BARCELONA. CATALUNYA.. SALUTACIONS.
Knowing what words mean makes it difficult for us to hear the words as pure sound. Not understanding the words of songs sung in an unknown language helps us hear the pure sound of those words better than if we knew the meanings. The same principle holds true for vision as it does for hearing. When you are drawing a cup, for example, that is turned upside down, you see the lines, curves and ellipses of the cup's shape more clearly than if the cup were right side up. Right side up, you draw what you KNOW about a cup rather than what you SEE. In both cases, familiarity alters perception.
Listening to the beautiful voice and noticing the artists wearing a red ribbon I wonder if this means breast cancer awareness for men like it does in the US. Pink.ribbon is for women.
oh come on, Michele Crider! Toss your diamonds onto the altar and let yourself gooooo!!! Fill up that little 2 minute box with more emotion, lift your head, open your eyes. Take all that diva posturing in your bows and put them IN THE ARIA. Tosca was not a paraplegic.
Thanks for your comment! Both are true, Grace Bumbry was trained as a mezzo-soprano, but her voice pushed more and more into the soprano throughout her life. Best from Berlin!
The truth of the matter is that these categories were created based on Italian voices. Other voice types often have wider ranges and can encompass different "fachs". They often have to choose where to specialize due to career demands.
Wow! If only one could put together such a collection of outstanding voices for one evening in 2023!
At least we can find our sanity coz this world is so crazy that we've got no time for ourselves no more.
Wunderbare Sänger...
Kirchberger, Rene Pape, Michele Crider, Kazarova, und Maestro Nagano fantastisch !❤
My deepest thanks tp DW for making this ethereal beauty available to the world.

Such a great program and performance… fantastic, thank you very much for sharing it, although it happened twenty years ago 😅
..., ah, a eternidade das composições clássicas e das vozes clássicas. ..., bravo!!!
Vesselina Kazarova ..the best part from this concert . A talented bulgarian mezzo 🇧🇬❤️

Me encanta.
Que bien ... !
❤😂🎉
Very cool 😎
😅😊
Nice music. It would be nice if you could raise the volume of the video and make it crisp and clear.
@mudgebauer -- Nothing wrong with Volume....Just spend a dime and UPGRADE your equipment already.....You're welcome.....from Acapulco!
I projected it to my TV. The audio was fine.
Iam from India and I didn't understand a singl word..but pretty good in hear...🤩 😂
Most of the people don't understand a single word.....( if they are not Italians)...😊
But the music counts !
Right! It goes directly to te heart.
Was also french

WOW! Michele Crider's performance brought me to tears.... and I don't really care for opera.

keep looking
At what year this concert was performed ? Bumpry died at 2023 at age of 86
The music is simply a class apart...No wonder it's called classical music..
Listening to the beautiful voice and noticing the artists wearing a red ribbon I wonder if this means breast cancer awareness for men like it does in the US. Pink.ribbon is for women.
The audience looked bored and half of them were asleep or wanted to be.
Kent Nagano reminds me of Japanese conductor Ozawa
what a stupid comment
5:40
45:00
unfortunately a low audio and not the best recording
Maybe you could try using headphones.
wow René Pape does not keep his placement. It's all over the place. Some of his notes are completely dry, no ring.

grace is a soprano not a mezzo 😀
Thanks for your comment!

Bumbry considered herself a soprano in the late 1970’s to the 1980’s, but for most of her career, she was a mezzo.

Casta Diva with Callas?
Artist were just not spot on..no voice acting..I would have left at first interval
Programm ohne Sinn... Kstastrofe
❤❤❤❤❤
