Well, here in Las Vegas there are only two dealerships and they have no Wilderness models on the lot,. Have to order them with no expectation of delivery for months. I had a green Crosstek on order and they actually put this Wilderness on sale 3k under MSRP which put it within 2k of the Crosstek. It's a lot more car for 2K so purchased it instead. I was thinking of a non Wilderness Outback and I was thinking of adding larger tires when the stock ones wear out and I can gain maybe an inch that way without putting on a lift kit. But can't be done. The stock tire size already fills up the wheel well with no room to spare.😣

    • @glamplanding
      @glamplanding  Год назад +1

      If ground clearance is a primary concern then starting out with the Wilderness trim might be the easiest way to go. There are ways to put larger tires on but then you are lifting it and takes you down another rabbit hole.

      @@glamplanding yeah. My wife loves ventilated seats. We would have to step up to the Touring. Would also need the XT model because I live where there are hills and I take it over mountain passes and stuff. So that is a big jump in price that we don't want to spend extra just for ventilated seats basically.
      The extra height wasn't a primary concern but would be nice. The Wilderness isn't that much higher but every little bit helps and can mean the difference of being stuck or whew, that was close.

    9.5 inches of ground clearance, not 9.7. Just thought I would clear things for people. Also, Forester Wilderness is 9.2. And Crosstrek Wilderness is 9.3. Lack of low range and stress on CVT for steep inclines is biggest weakness. They are fine for very light off-roading, mud, and snow.

This car will take the majority of people to 100% of the places they want to go. I have other vehicles for tougher items but would argue their weak point is MPG. @@lukadad5921 No, this subaru is ALL wheel Drive, Hence the "A". An all-wheel drive system can send a variable amount of torque to each axle, and the driver doesn't typically control this. A four-wheel drive system sends a fixed amount of power to each axle, and it can be switched on or off by the driver. An all-wheel drive system uses a center differential to distribute the engine's torque between the two axles, while four-wheel drive relies on a transfer case. Four-wheel drive is great for off-roading and other low-traction scenarios, since the system sends a fixed amount of power to each tire. Whichever tire has the most traction is guaranteed to get the power it needs, helping prevent the vehicle from getting stuck. AWD cannot do this. So, IMHO, if you are going off road, use 4x4. You cant even drive on a beach with AWD. Well, you can, but youll need someone with a true 4x4 to pull you out. Ive pulled people who out from being stuck on the beach in North Carolina who thought their AWD vehicles could drive on the beach, but they always got stuck. Both my Jeep Trailhawk and my Wrangler have pulled their share of AWD vehicles back to the asphalt of Highway 12. in Corolla. Im sure this year will be no different.

      @@glamplanding For your driving, sure. But even light off-roading with this vehicle may be treacherous. Make sure you have your cell with you to contact a tow or a friend with 4wheel drive to pull you out.

      For 99% of driving AWD is better than 4WD. Most people don’t off road their Subaru.

    Gets 26 highway going downhill. And ground clearance is 9.5 NOT 9.7 .

      Thanks for the comment and watching! On the MPG we are currently getting about 21 with mostly intown/rural driving. I do have a 3000 mile road trip coming up next week so I will get back to you on the highway mileage. We only have a couple hundred miles on the car so it should get a little better about the break in period.

      I just got back from a road trip. I was averaging 20-30 MPG on the highway. When I drive in Dallas or Houston traffic, then the MPGs really go down.

      Nice...heading out on trip next week. I've had several turbocharged cars and most have been like that. On the interstate the turbo normally is needed and great gas mileage...but once you are low speed or performance driving they can drink more gas than some larger motors. Same goes for the eco-boost trucks. They are good on the highway...but towing they can drink a lot of gas.

      @glamplanding the mpg will definitely get better with more miles on it.
      Subaru gives a 27/34 & 29 combined on the '21 Crosstrek Limited I have. That was pretty much dead-on my first 5000+ miles. I'm now doing right at 31/37 & 33 combined.
      Just did about 400 miles, mostly highway and finished that trip at 35.9 running 75 mpg most of the run.

    I'm so tired of the rock crawling guys acting like we buy these things to do that crap. We don't. If we want to rock crawl we buy a lifted vehicle with 4 low. They just want to come cry at everyone who doesn't rock crawl 24/7. WAAAH STOP DRIVING NEAR ME WAAH. I also didn't want to pay 48k for a used ass 4runner with no features.

      Thanks for watching @boostcreeps! Ive had Jeeps and 4Runners and each served a purpose for me when I had them and a lot of that was based on location. In my current situation I don’t have the need for those and I’m livening the Subaru. The bottom line is to just go enjoy yourself and get outside. I don’t worry to much about folks telling me what it can’t do. 99% of people never take their cars as far the cars can take them :)
