    I wonder if your fader for channel 1 needs to be sprayed with DeoxIT. You really do have a nice little machine there. Your efforts are going to prove to be rewarded. Ownership is half the battle. The other half is doing your research to repair it, which is what you did. Thank you for helping out the rest of us.

    Hey! I got one of these sitting in my basement and needs adjustments too! Your video is very interesting and I will try to adjust myself. I used to run Cubase on my old Atari 1040 ST(1 meg ram) computer back in the mid-90's and I had a PPS-1 midi sync box that would start Cubase when I would roll the tape machine. The idea was to disable the DBX noise reduction on track 8 of the Tascam 388 (there is a switch for that), and stripe track 8 with a time code with the PPS-1 box connected into midi on the Atari. That time code would then start Cubase when I would roll the tape so I could have all the analogue in sync with the midi instruments. It was like having a 7 track analogue machine and midi recorder teamed up! Worked great!

    A great all in one box. The only things missing really were phantom power and polarity. Generally sounded good but felt that distorted guitars never quite sounded right. Anything acoustic seemed beautiful. Still got mine but it needs love - your video has inspired me to have a go.

      @@travisraab I wonder how it ended up in the US... BTW I have a question for you. When using devices like the Yamaha MT8XII or TASCAM Portastudios, the sound quality is typically more lo-fi compared to the high fidelity of reel-to-reel tape machines.
      In your experience, what’s the best approach for achieving high-quality recordings? Do you prefer recording directly to reel-to-reel, or do you find it beneficial to record on lo-fi equipment first and then transfer to reel-to-reel? Alternatively, do you think using a high-quality analog mixer, like the TASCAM 2400, before moving to reel-to-reel is a better option?

    • @travisraab
      @travisraab  Месяц назад +1

      @@nameless2340 If you want high quality recordings then record digitally. If you want to stay analog and increase fidelity then go straight to reel to reel running the tape as fast as possible and the mixing board won't matter that much.
