116-Year-Old Mercedes Simplex 60hp (1903) 9.2-litre Four-Cylinder Engine, Goodwood Festival of Speed

- It was a real pleasure to film this 116-year-old Mercedes Simplex 60hp (1903) in action during the last two editions (2018/2019) of the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The car, recently driven by Felicity Collings is powered by a massive 9.2-litre, 4-cylinder in-line engine that develops 60hp at 1,600 rpm. Bore and stroke are 140x150mm respectively; there's a side camshaft which is driven by cylindrical gears.

E' stato un vero piacere filmare questa Mercedes Simplex 60hp che ha ben 116 anni! Anno di fabbricazione il 1903, qui la vedete in azione nelle edizioni 2018/2019 del Goodwood Festival of Speed. La vettura, pilotata recentemente da Felicity Collings è mossa da un grosso motore da 9.2 litri, 4 cilindri in linea che sviluppa 60cv a 1.600 giri/min. Alesaggio e corsa sono 140x150mm rispettivamente, c'è un'albero a camme laterale che viene azionato tramite ingranaggi cilindrici.

You are right; this is the example that pure mechanics will always work, to hell the electronics that only creates problems. How many of today cars will be running in over 100 years?
@@Italiansupercarvideo How many of today's cars will be running in 15 years? I've just bought a Japanese car, 2 months in, and I have to take it back to the dealer. Went Japanese after BMW became a nightmare of gimmickry and unreliability.
@@RS-xx9ve My everyday car is 25 years old and I will do the necessary maintenance to keep it running correctly. Having little electronics it is incredibly reliable. I'm not a fan of modern cars and all that useless stuff that adds weight.
I love these old monsters with these huge four cylinder engines. Think of the amount of torque they must have, must be like a single cylinder tractor.

Hahaha, that would be great, I can imagine people's faces when they see you on the street. But this car makes me think. Many of the 20-year-old cars are poorly reduced. Others manage to reach 30 years. If the owner takes care of the vehicle, it can reach 50 years. But one thing is sure. After 100 years, current cars will not run. This one, in its simplicity and mechanical construction, will always go. And this video proves it.
I expect it probably is road legal, it does have a license number like the Beast of Turin.
I will start work at midday because police ask all the documents, the car is ok or no etc
