Thank you. My granddaughter wants a photo quilt for Christmas and this looks to be a wonderful solution for me to accomplish that. I have never quilted before so this will definitely be an adventure!
Thanks for sharing all of these products and demonstrating them. I dont quilt per se but use the techniques in garments and totes. I’m moving into a bit more crafting ideas of phot transfer and never heard of some of these products. I’m definite going to look at the Tap product. Seems lie it would cover a wide range of what I want to do!
This is a really helpful tutorial. I would never have known about these products. I will be watching most of your other tutorials. Thanks so much for creating the series!
This looks as though it would be perfect to make memory quilts with. I would like your thoughts please. Going to use paper size sheets quilted with solid squares in-between. Then tack to cotton batting back. They should tack well shouldn't they? This will be my first quilt.
Thank you for the instructions. Little confused about the "TAP" product. Couldn't quite catch how the photo got on the TAP surface prior to transferring it to fabric. Other than that (and I will watch it a few times to see if it makes more sense), loved it all.
This is a great tutorial Heather - thank you! I am so disappointed that TAP, Sewpaintable, and Golden Digital Ground have been discontinued. Would you consider creating an updated video with alternate method(s). Also have you tried inkAID, and if so what is your opinion of that product?
TAP was a great transfer paper. However, it has been discontinued and the woman who created says that there are no plans to manufacture it. If you do find it online, make sure that it's not too old. The medium on it can get dry and gets crumbly and it won't work anymore.
Well that is disappointing! Looked like the best way to do the transferring. Any suggestions on what to use instead? Have never done photo transferring to fabric but would like to try. Thanks!
Hello Heather: in your article you mention the "metal shim". Is this something that can be bought at a fabric store? I'm a photographer who is always looking for new ways to present my art and stumbled across this video.
I am wanting to put images on some burlap. Wondering if with those pencils you could put your image under the fabric and trace it onto your fabric. Are those pencils okay to paint right onto the fabric?
Hi, Unfortunately burlap is not a fabric that I have ever tested this technique on. I would recommend either consulting the manufacturer of the pencil to see what fabrics they recommend using. Or, simply testing it out on a small scrap of burlap to see if you get the desired look. Cheers, Ashley

Hi Ahmed. You can use several different types of fabric for this technique. One of the products used is a fabric paper called SewPaintable, and another is a cotton fabric with a paper backing made by Jacquard:www.jacquardproducts.com/inkjet-fabric-sheets.html
Unfortunately I have never tried this technique on felt so I can't say for sure whether it would work or not. I would recommend trying out a small image on a scrap of fabric first.

ooo she shouldnt dip her pencils straight in the water it damages them, she should colour first then go over with a wet brush. lovely work though

Sarah Fields definitely! The wood in the pencils will warp over time. Not to mention the degradation of the “lead” since they are water soluble.
