Kay you always bake all the yummy things my mam used to make while I was growing up and beyond thanks for sharing……….ooh Dan can’t wait for your castle nations yippee Dan 😊😊😊
I was at services in York Minister the night HRH Queen Elizabeth passed away. Special prayers were offered for the family and we raised a glass at a local pub afterwards
Just ordered some Halloween yarn from Polka Dot Creek - Toads Stool. Was an add on for my daughter's birthday gift of 2 cross stitch patterns. I'm addicted to their yarns. Made a zucchini gingerbread loaf whilst listening to your show. Love fall flavours. Thanks for the lighter carrot cake recipe. Even though the cream cheese icing is good, it's just too much. We are no nuts due to allergies however we regularly substitute toasted sunflower seeds into recipes calling for nuts.
Fabulous episode! Can't wait to try that lighter carrot cake recipe. Your mention of music at church speaks to me. I've sung in dozens of choirs over the years and there really is something special about lifting voices in harmony.
You talked about how long it takes you to knit the foot of Dan's socks. I understand. I am currently knitting another pair of socks for my 6'6" college basketball playing grandson. He wears US size 15 shoes. But he is a very knitworthy young man who loves hand knit socks. And I love him a lot. So I will keep knitting and knitting and knitting .......
That cake looks so yummy! However, Like Bryony, I couldn't do the raisins. Love seeing all the Sockoween projects and colors! Such a great time of year!
Loved your show today as always. Here in the US the golden syrup is easily found. It wasn’t always available though. I think it’s in most large groceries since the Great British Bake Show has been viewed here. Mary Berry’s books have been very popular and I now have a scale and weigh out the ingredients. She would be proud of me! Happy knitting and baking!
Perhaps others have already said so, but I think the Winterfell yarn works great as what it’s meant to depict. The main castle/keep of Winterfell is far north in a land that doesn’t see daylight in winter. The rocky landscape is very dark, but with wide open brilliant blue skies and pops of color and life in the inhabited areas.
Absolutely loved this Episode! Dan, your production photography and music is just perfect. ( I may have written this previously) What talent you have. Kay, everything you do is completed with such care and attention to details. From your knitting to your baking to your sewing and your dying….you are a delight to watch. Looking forward to your Castle show, Dan. But I do get sad when something comes to an end. Have fun with your daughter when she comes home for her birthday. She will love her gifts. By the way, I saw the Broadway production of Beetlejuice. I wasn’t sure about it at first, but then loved it! ❤❤
❤❤loved the show🎉🎉 Now it's in my head❤️🍄🍁""Beetlejuice,, Beetlejuice,,, Beetlejuice,,,,😮😮 Love the bakes,,,yummy,,,, And socks,,,,hats,,,,cowls,,, ELAINE 🏠👻🍄🍁🎃
Lots of American brands wind their yarns like the purple. Very popular. Depending on project sometimes I’ll wind it up in a cake or a ball. Have a great October guys!
I'm in the US and would imagine your golden syrup is probably about the same as our "Karo syrup". Karo is a brand name and it can be found in most grocery stores, and some stores even have their own brands of it. A question about Treacle though, is it sweet, or does it have a very strong taste? our Molasses is generally a very strong taste and not really sweet at all. (at least the molasses i'm familiar with). Love the show, thanks again! Can't wait to try the Parkin.
Buying lightbulbs these days is the bane of my life! It feels like every light in my house takes a different type. In our area if cardboard is wet it goes to landfill because they say it can't be recycled
Oh I didn’t know Jenn has a channel too. I’ve also been doing vlogtober with very short daily videos just little bits of my day, daily life, crafting and kids activities.
Hi Kay and Dan Another brilliant video , definitely brightened up a miserable afternoon here in Weston-super-Mare. If this is any help Kay Bart do a really nice Mixed Spice that I always use and it has Coriander / Cinnamon / Dill Seed / Ginger / Caraway / Orange Peel / Cloves and Nutmeg. If you fancy trying this one it’s from Waitrose. Take care and a very happy birthday to Briony. 👵
As for the variegated yarn pooling test. It would be interesting to see how the pooling changed if you knit the same size sock @ 72 stitches but knit @ 64 stitches with a bigger needle? So yes the gauge changes but the size stays the same. How might that effect the pooling???🤷
Your golden syrup may be like the high fructose corn syrups used in Canada and the US. Very sweet and makes baked goods moist for longer. Treacle looks like molasses. There are 2 types in Canada but can't remember the differences.
That lavender skein looks exactly like Red Heart skeins here in the U.S. That's the first yarn that many U.S.-based crafters encounter, so it didn't look funny at all to me.
i am in America and the husband and i love carrot cake and like you we do not like the cream cheese icing and we just had it last week and over here we call the other cake gingerbread and i wish i could say that i like it because it smells so good but for some reason i do not like it and neither does my husband thank you for baking these i love your baking

Made the carrot cake today. Oh my giddy aunt - beyond a hit with my family. Thanks Kay. Parkin next. 🍰
Great episode! I thought at first,Kay, that you had a skein of American acrylic yarn. That’s the typical shape of those skeins.

I don't normally pull from the inside but that Yarnsmiths pulls perfectly.
In the U.S., golden syrup is usually sold under the name of light treacle, but it's not readily available in many grocery stores

We are lucky in South Africa, we get that golden suryp.
Thank you for a great show. I’m really going to try baking the carrot cake. Love all your knitting and yarns 👏🏼👏🏼🌺🌺

Skeins like that are very common in the US and are especially found in the big box stores that sell acrylic yarns.

Golden syrup and black treacle readily available in Australia too.
Shreds - the little bits of grated cheese are called shreds in the U.S.

Hello from Swansea, Illinois. ❤❤❤❤❤
I don't normally like brown but I do like that Malabrigo

In the states the little bits of carrots or whatever that are grated are “shredded”
YUMMY!!!!!
"Winterfell" in German means "winter fur" or "winter coat". Maybe that's where the name comes from?
Add yourself some crystallised ginger to your Parkin it’s amazing
