Thank you for posting this video. I bought the Dasung monitor 1 year ago, and it's been saving my eyes. I do intense 10+ hours of reading and writing every day, and am extremely grateful for companies that are still working on the eInk technology.
Hi, thanks for this video!
Regarding the missing glowlight on the Mira Pro: Could you make a video of the Mira Pro in combination with an LED light bar? I always had trouble with properly lighting my Dasung Paperlike and no glowlight is a big drawback on an otherwise seemingly great product…
I would have killed for something like this when I was in college.
I'm in college rn, they're way too expensive for a student lol
Student discount!
@@buttsbrown2442 how much would that discount be for a 2k+ product tho :/ also these are foreign companies so...
@@laur-unstagenameactuallyca1587 well, last time I was in college, the $200 Office 7 went for $80 for students, so, assuming all other colleges work the same, and not doing any accounting for market inflation, I'm going to guess the low-low price of $800!
More likely, though, this might be something schools themselves could invest in for certain classes or for computer labs, is probably more likely where it would be implemented before any such student rate could be applied.
@@laur-unstagenameactuallyca1587
Honestly: If you are paying 100.000 - 300.000€ for studying, you eyes should be totally worth it - same goes for (color) e-ink tablets. I would also have killed for this (Law / Legal studies). I was born too early… T_T
I wish the Mira had better Boox Super Refresh. BSR works really well in the Onyx Boox Tab X, and clears the ghosting. The Mira retains ghosting, while the Tab X clears it automatically.
I legit wonder how resolutions work on those things. Do you get interpolation artifacts from using a different resolution other than native? or do they display natively?
Dasung has wide vertical dark bars around the edges when browsing. Why is that?
that Onyx Boox Mira Pro is absolutely gorgeous, Braun like design
Dasun is fantastic, which can be so smooth with a good appearance. Although the colour is shallow, it is readable.
7:15 No differences? The screen contrast looks way better on the Onyx from my eyes.
Maybe a good choice for back-end developers.
How about typing or coding?
It may be fun using visual studio code at these e-ink monitors.
I wonder how much of a difference in scroll smoothness the operating system and mouse wheel makes. Not entirely 1:1 comparison.
I feel this tech should be much further along than it is in 2024. Really. This is the only option for the future.
Thank you for your videos! How can the onyx mira been used at night? Is there a special fitting lamp for these monitors?
I assume you could slightly modify a monitor light bar to shine onto the screen at the right angle rather than just past the screen.
You can just use a normale table lamp to shine at the monitor, as you would do it with reading on paper or books. That's the clue behind it. Your eyes only see the light, which the ink is reflecting to it.
I use the Dyson Solarcycle Morph™ desk lamp ,
Totally worth the price …
literally the best and only lamp you will need for the rest of your life ( it last 65 years)
why would you need a glowlight ? the whole point of these devices is to read things in ambient lighting
The glow light is necessary because you cannot see things at night as humans without a light source, so if you're ever in the dark at your job for any reason, and you have a $400 to $1,000 item in your hand that you just spent all your money on.. you would want it to have some sort of usability in the dark
@@goodereader ok smarty pants, what job is in pitch black darkness but requires a screen which would be preferably eInk rather than LCD. Dork.
Does anybody try to do CAD 3D-modeling on that type of monitors?
I don't understand why you didn't comment about the contrast. It looks about 5-10 times better on the Dasung. The Onyx looked very grey and difficult to read. Is that just a video artifact? Would be interesting to your thoughs.
What about vertical orientation and other position & angle adjustability?
As we said, watch the review
Too much to cover in 1 video :)
Do either brands or your store offer a student discount ?
Hey there, the store and RUclips are completely separate divisions of good e-reader Inc in different countries, you're going to have to message us directly

Which one doesn’t have blue light at all?
Eink has no backlight. So both lol
Yes, Dasung is definitely the leader of Secondary Monitors. Unbelievable refresh speed and display effect. It also does perform well with the technology it's using.
The Dasung uses the same exact screen hardware as the Onyx.
Hello, I'd like to buy one of Dasung 253 and Onyx Mira Pro, which one should I buy just by looking at the performance of the monitor,
Onyx if u dont want glowlight
@@Dr.Akakia Onyx is terrible
Don't philips do e-ink monitors as well?
Yes they do
i decide to get a Dasung link to be my second phone monitor
16:9 is the wrong aspect for e-ink. Needs 3:2 or 16:10.
Hey there, I'm not sure what a singular company like E INK has to do with an aspect ratio. It's just a screen
That's like saying "16:9 is the wrong aspect for LCD"
Epaper is simply a display technology
@@goodereader I'd guess their argument is that Epaper is a display technology meant to consume text and/or be productive. But 16:9 is an aspect ratio that never came about in the computing world when it was geared towards reading/productivity -- not until watching video became relevant (16:9 being a video aspect ratio) did that permeate the computer industry. Since monochrome Epaper will never be a great medium for watching video, the supposed benefits of being 16:9 evaporate. A 16:10 or 3:2 aspect ratio would, instead, mean you need to scroll (or page down) fewer times in horizontal mode to read the same amount of text.
Hello sir I am from India I want to buy dasung 25.3 how can I bought it is not available any where
Did you buy? I want to buy either of these
The staining in the Mira Pro is brutal, making just reading terrible. I'm on an AMD so the software doesn't work. You would have to press refresh at least 2 to 4 times a minute. Unusable.
Next time plug both monitors into the same computer and just choose "duplicate displays"
Is AMD still incompatible with Mira Pro? Their distributor sold one to me despite knowing I am using AMD. Onyx and BandH both pretend not to know about this at the moment. Software can't recognize it and it looks dreadful
My Mira 13 despite the non working hdmi output, cant even connect to their own tab ultra products. Also via displayport adapter it wont work on microsoft surface and thinkpad x230. Useless monitor
That onyx I want almost purely for the novelty, but the price is still just too steep. If it had a glow light with warm light option, and was $500, I might bite the bullet, despite not really having a practical use for it. Maybe in a couple years, though...
About 70% of my textbooks were in ebook format that I had to read on my monitor. They were murder on the eyes despite tweaking the brightness settings. This would have may my experience so much better. Alas. I hope it helps other students.
Oof, yeah, this would definitely be a big help for stuff like that!
are these good for quickly and constantly refreshing text? i.e. order books and market tape on exchanges
@@RJ-se9op Videos make it seem like the refresh rate is pretty nice. I still haven't seen one in person, though, so can't say for certain how optimized it is.
the point of using e-ink is about not having LED backlit ..
The glow light isn't a backlight, it lights from the side so the light is reflected off the screen and keeps eyestrain to a minimum
Do you know what it means that it is not compatible with AMD? No AMD GPUs?! Why?
Wish I would have watched/read this before. Mira Pro is indeed not compatible with AMD. I am in the process of getting "support", they are still blatantly lying and not even mentioning this. I guess they are trying to drag me past the return date. DO NOT BUY if you use AMD.
Where does he say that in the video? Or did you just find that out on your own? I am having this issue right now. Onyx is pretending this is not the case.
Not having the glow light is a major deal breaker.
My goal with an e-ink screen is to avoid direct light coming to my eyes, so I won't use glow light. I prefer more diffuse lighting like when I read a paper book.
I bought mira pro,and I laid a light behind the seat, that's no problem for me
which one is purely eink exactly like paper and don't have hidden light to strain eyes ?
both
Hello everyone. So, I actually don’t understand the utility of such a device - paperlike monitor. I recently joined the paperlike “world” by using an onyx boox note and it’s really useful for me for taking notes and reading, but I don’t see the necessity of a monitor that is black and white. It has a lot of cons vs a regular monitor. Could someone explain to me what is attractive about this kind of monitor and why we should take into consideration this kind of device ? Like I said, don’t take this in the wrong way, I just try to understand this new device, I don’t have anything against it. Thank you !
So your eyes and brain clearly don’t feel the difference of staring into a LED monitor reading books vs reading on an e ink ? What’s more to say ?
i have severe dry eye and can’t read on normal monitors / phones for more than a minute at a time with long 10min+ rests in between. can read on my kindle significantly longer with shorter rests.
8:00 Less is more my friend. The 20+ modes will scare lots of non tech people away. Not to mention that many of those modes likely overlap in terms of results. A few simple modes but working properly would be far more useful to everyone instead of too many options. I don’t see the fewer modes as a drawback. I see it as benefit.
Once these things are below $400 they might be worth looking at. Some of y’all got too much money
there is absolutely no way. the panels themselves are nearly 1000$
the actual cost is extremely high.
400$ is impossible
@@goodereader it’s impossible because of scale for now. Until these are as ubiquitous as LCD, I agree
Yes, that's literally the entire e-reader industry for sure.
The fact is that there are hundreds of thousands of companies across the planet with race to the bottom prices when it comes to cell phones, or even $14 tablets on Alibaba
But when it comes to e-readers, there's literally one company in the world that makes the actual screen technology e ink out of Taiwan
And realistically only 7 to 10 OEMs who are placing orders with e-ink to apply to their devices like onyx, foxconn, jezetek, etc
The industry is far too small for $400 25 inch E ink monitors as there's literally only two people that even make monitors right now
@@goodereader It really sucks. But if you're like me and you have eyestrain from screens, work in IT plus have hobbies related to computer screens, I guess it's worth the price. I just hope they're buy once-cry once.
Oh for sure, we totally understand. But in the industry it's just not possible :-(
Thanks! This made me decide not to buy any of these. It is technology still in infancy
E ink is not in its infancy.
@@goodereader once it will be mature, you will mark my words ;)
@@punk3900 no thanks
Thank you
@@goodereader That's like saying TV in black and white wasnt in its infancy in the 1960s. Yet here you are streaming color live video on your phone while you're in class. eInk is absolutely in its infancy.
@@maxmeier532 For people who want a black and white display without backlighting, e-ink is the superior technology. However, there's no doubt that a colour e-ink providing the same functionality would be e-ink at a higher stage of development and could receive a larger market share. The existing e-ink market is not based around watching movies in colour.
Good E Reader = Liar
what a stupid comment.
@@goodereader I wouldn't address him that way. Was it a bad take? Absolutely. They are just ignorant to the utility and benefits of this screen technology.
Maybe give it a real go and fair chance before you knock it down.
